Francisco is the sweetest boy, who is ready to find his new family. He came to us in pretty rough shape, but he has come a long way thanks to his foster family. He has gotten to a healthy weight and happy to get lots of yummy treats. His foster mom says "Frank is truly one of the cutest and most loving dogs I've ever met Francisco is looking for a family who would like to continue doing training with him, he is very food motivated and excited to learn. He gets so excited to greet everyone he comes across. Although he gets excited about dogs, and would be happy to have a friend for walks or playtime, he would like to be the only dog in the home. He loves nothing more then his people, and is looking for a family that is around a lot. He loves car rides and would love to join you for an adventure or errands. To learn more apply today!

Story
Meet Toby! Toby is an eight-year-old Chihuahua and Mini Pin mix who weighs 10 pounds. If you are looking for a shadow who will do the best happy dance when you come home, Toby is your guy... If you are willing to let him warm up to you at his own pace and use positive training methods with him. He is pretty sensitive and fearful of new situations. He is wary of humans and dogs and needs time to warm up to you and other animals. Toby has taken quite well to his foster parents and especially loves his foster dad. In less than a week he started to play and wiggle his bum when he saw the adults. Toby will snuggle tons but he needs time and patience before he will let you pick him up. He is especially not fond of it if there are other dogs around or something he is wary of, like the stairs. We are practicing saying "UP" when we pick up so he gets used to the cue and knows why we are reaching for him. A month in and when he wants to get up he walks towards you but when you reach out he moves back, lol. He will do this a few times all the while whining that he isn’t being picked up! Toby will only crate when you aren't in the room, so he snuggles with his foster Dad in bed overnights. He does well in the crate when he is left home alone. Toby is potty trained for outdoors. After one or two marking incidents when he first arrived he was fine to be left uncrated overnight and when left for errands during the day Toby is a playful and loving guy! He adores his foster Dad especially but will hang out with, kiss, and play with his foster Mom too. He wants to be with his human all the time. If there is a bed on the floor he is happy to be there, but if another dog is in the room he prefers your lap. Toby has shown food resource guarding. He will bite/nip when guarding and will need an adopter willing to use positive reinforcement to work through this. - UPDATE: It has been a month since Toby came to his foster home. He is no longer fearful of us, the dogs, or guarding the adults from the kids sneaking into bed. Toby does not play with the other dogs in foster who are all bigger than him. He does warm up after about a month or so and tolerates them all around him. He will even attempt to mount them sometimes but he doesn’t want them attempting any play with him as of yet. Toby has recently stayed in a home with another Chihuahua. They don't play together yet but do stick together everywhere. UPDATE: Toby did not want his nails clipped or to receive his ear medicine drops. If you attempt to force Toby to be held and try to clip his nails or force him to have his ear medicine He will air snap growl and snap at your hand without leaving any marks. Foster has been working with muzzle training to get him used to the muzzle in order for him to be okay with wearing the muzzle. This will need to be continued so that he can have safe vet visits safe grooming and safe medicine giving if he ever meets his ears treated again. He does not need a muzzle or attempt to bite in any other situation since being with his foster home for over a month except when he's forced and held against his will and his signals go ignored. . . . If you are interested in finding out more about Toby, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5 Toby is being fostered in Clinton and the adoption fee is $350. NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. Story
Mr. Tilly is a 12lb, exceptionally shy pup looking for a home who will help him adjust to a new life. Please read his entire bio before reaching out to the shelter. He is looking for an adult home only. Due to Mr. Tilly's shy personality, he is looking for a quiet home environment, and would not be suited to large apartment complexes at this time. He will require multiple meets at the shelter with patient, adult adopters able to visit him at WARL  before he is ready to go to a new home. In his case, his shyness and fear of new people could cause him to snap at people who reach out to touch him before he is ready. Mr. Tilly is looking for a home as an only dog. This shy guy is looking for just the right fit, in a quiet home with gentle people who can appreciate how tough it can be to be left wandering, as he was found as a stray in Worcester with no owner coming forward to claim him. Mr. Tilly has trouble bonding with new people, but is lovely with the staff who care for him. He does not want to be petted or picked up by new people, just given some space to observe and relax without being overwhelmed by attention. Mr. Tilly does have complex medical needs that will require an adopter able to provide him with ongoing veterinary care.  Once Mr. Tilly makes friends, he is very sweet and bouncy, and needs folks who understand dog body language and also don't require a dog to instantly adore them. If you are interested in meeting Mr. Tilly, please fill out the Dog Adoption Inquiry Form to request a meet with him. All adoptions are by appointment, thank you!

Story
Updated Jul 22, 2024. COMING SOON! Meet the lovely Bella! Bella will be ready for adoption sometime in July/August. You can apply now to begin the approval process of being her forever family or to foster-to-adopt! Bella's Dad became homeless and didn't want his baby girl, whom he had her entire life, to be living outdoors. It was a very heartbreaking surrender and Bella is adjusting well considering. She is friendly, snuggly, and good with little kids. Bella lived with a larger dog previously but seems to warm up to the same-sized female the fastest in her foster home. Bella is an affection-hog. She wants to follow you everywhere and comes when called. She desires constant petting and to be sitting or leaning on you in some way. At almost nine years old she is spry and may have trained to become a circus dog with her dancing on her two back legs! She is chill enough to cuddle and energetic enough to play and run around. More recently, the vet exam shows her having a heart murmur and a mass cell tumor (MCT) which we deemed to be inoperable at this time. She doesn't seem to notice since she's still her usual energetic self. Her ideal new forever family would accept and love her, accepting that she may live for a long time with her conditions, and want to love and care for her for the rest of her life. Can you, will you be the one to give this senior lady the best care she deserves, and in turn accept all her love and affection? She's waiting to meet you! ** If you are interested in finding out more about Bella, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/bro-a-84 Bella is being fostered in Worcester. The adoption fee is $150. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Story
Bouncy, busy Hilda is looking for a new home and a fresh start! This 3 year old, 8lb chihuahua mix is a bundle of energy and loves to keep life lively and interesting. Hilda loves to be held and interact with her people. She is an admitted frequent barker, so she is looking for a home without shared walls like an apartment complex.Hilda came to WARL as a stray who does not yet know how to walk on a leash. She loves to run, run, run around in our fenced in yard, but quickly wants to be picked up and cuddled. Hilda is a sweet pup, and a swirl of busy energy. Close neighbors or folks out and about may not appreciate her barking, and she does not care for other dogs, and will bark at them while she can see them. If there are to be children in her new home, they should be older, as she likes gentle handling. Hilda makes up for her barking by absolutely adoring the people who care for her, and her love of lap time. If you think Hilda might be a good fit for your home, please head to our website worcesterarl.org and click on her picture to fill out the Dog Adoption Inquiry Form. That is the first step! All adoptions are by appointment, thank you!
