Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Biscuit is an approximately 3-4 year old chihuahua/terrier mix who came to us on 10/4/2025 with her housemate Daisy. Their owner passed away. Biscuit and Daisy have always been together and are considered a "bonded pair". The girls were extremely shy when they first came to us which is why it has taken us so long to put them up for adoption. They are now fully vetted and ready for a new home. The fee for both of them is $250. The two girls are looking for an ADULT only home. Teens are okay. They will require a lot of patience and some basic training. They are very shy with new people but blossom into fun loving characters once they're comfortable. They did live with other small dogs. We were told by family members that Biscuit is not good with cats. FENCED YARD REQUIRED. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 12:49 pm

Story
Paloma is a Chihuahua/Corgi mix that was part of a group dump near Manchester. Born July 2025, Paloma is a sweet little girl with wonderfully big ears and equally big heart who just wants love and attention. She is a happy loving girl who would fit well into most families. She gets along with other dogs and keeps a pretty clean kennel. Paloma just wants a home and family of her own. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Shorty got his name from his short little stubby legs, and he’s every bit as adorable as you’d imagine. This sweet little Chihuahua spent his life as a breeder dog, so living in a home is still new to him—but he’s doing really well and making steady progress every day. Shorty gets along wonderfully with other dogs and truly needs another dog in the home to help him feel safe and confident. He knows how to use a doggy door to go outside to potty, though he may still have an occasional accident or choose to use a potty pad. Shorty recently had his eye removed due to a non-healing ulcer and also had a dental with several extractions. He has recovered well and is now ready to start his next chapter. Because he is still healing, we have not tried leash walking yet. He is kennel trained, very quiet, and not a barker. Shorty will allow you to pick him up if you gently corner him and say “stop” or “wait,” and he will sit with you for short periods, though he doesn’t yet come to you asking to be picked up. With patience, kindness, and routine, he continues to grow more comfortable each day. Shorty would do best in a calm, quiet home with another dog and a secure fenced yard. His journey is just beginning, and he’s looking for a loving home to continue helping him feel safe and loved. Adoption fee is $350 plus tax. Apply to adopt at CampCompanion.org 🐾

Story
Meet Vivi! Vivi was found as a stray and ended up in animal control before coming to rescue. She is estimated to be around 10 years old, but she definitely didn’t get the memo—Vivi has plenty of energy and a tail that seems to wag nonstop. She’s a happy, curious girl who loves to be part of the action. If something moves, Vivi wants to check it out! She enjoys playing and still has a fun, youthful spirit. Vivi is a smart girl who knows “sit” and understands “no.” She appears eager to please and is learning that calm behavior earns attention and pets. She’s quiet in her kennel, keeps it clean, and has not been destructive in her foster home. After a couple of initial accidents (normal when adjusting to a new home), she’s doing well going potty outside. Vivi has met the resident dog in her foster home and did fine, but she can be a little enthusiastic and barky and is still learning doggy boundaries. Because of this, she will need slow introductions with other dogs. Vivi can also be a little sneaky around doors, so adopters will need to be careful when coming and going. She should not be off leash unless in a securely fenced area, as she does enjoy running. She is not a fan of small squeaky fast-moving kids but older kids are ok. If you think Vivi might be the right fit for your home, please apply at www.campcompanion.org . Her adoption fee is $350 plus tax.

Story
Meet Toddie 🐾 Toddie is a 7-year-old Chihuahua mix with a big personality in a little body. He absolutely loves meeting new people and has a playful, goofy side that will keep you smiling. He’s funny, affectionate, and when playtime winds down, he’s more than happy to curl up and cuddle. He truly is just the best little boy. Toddie loves his toys and enjoys staying busy. He recently had a dental cleaning, so his pearly whites are sparkling and he’s feeling fantastic — all ready for his forever home! He’s potty trained, kennel trained, and walks perfectly on a leash (no pulling at all — total gentleman status). He does great with other dogs, especially ones who enjoy a good play session. Toddie is good with kids but would prefer not to have them living in his home. He will also alert bark if someone comes to the door — a tiny but mighty little watchdog. If you’re looking for a well-mannered, playful, cuddly companion who will keep you company and let you know when someone’s at the door, Toddie is your guy. Apply at campcompanion.org Adoption fee is $350 + tax. 💙

Story
We call him Quint. If you've seen Jaws and are aware of the Quint's fate in the film, you might have some idea what happened to our little boy here. Quint was found in Tijuana Mexico nearly bitten in half. Bitten: We were told it was a dog attack, but it looked a lot like a machete wound. Either way, it was awful. Quint has healed beautifully. Sure, there are scars under his little coat - fairly good ones. But those just tell the story of what Quint has overcome. And overcome he has! Quint is healthy, friendly, clever, active, loving, cuddly and quickly learning all the things he should. He even braves the cold without complaint to do his business! So, if you're looking for a wonderful pal about 12 pounds and 3.5 years old.... we know him, and you should meet him. Quint is great with dogs his size; big dogs scare him which is understandable. He is a clinger and major lap dog. He loves his people and is very social. He loves racing around the back yard. He is potty trained on a schedule. Quint was adopted a year ago and is getting returned due to barking in the apartment and needing work on going #2 outside consistently. He does best on a schedule. He lived with a toddler and was amazing with it and the cat. We now are looking for a home, **no apartments** or shared walls for Quint. In his foster home (house) there is no barking. Apply to adopt at www.campcompanion.org Adoption fee is $350 plus tax.
