Story
Ella Mae has arrived from Mexico! This sweet girl has had a tough life but is looking forward to a new beginning! She is so sweet & gentle natured. She's calm but loves to explore. She is looking forward to a slow retirement home filled with love! Age: 12 Breed:  Chi Mix Weight:  12 lbs Kid-friendly: Great with kiddos but she is shy so we recommend older kiddos. Dogs: She's pretty bossy so she would need a very tolerant dog. She likes to bark orders! Cats: Yes but again, bossy ;) Crate trained: Yes! Potty trained: Yes! Health concerns: She only has two teeth! Adoption fee: $175 As a rescue, we provide the care, procedures and testing that is available to us.      Adopters will be responsible for continued preventatives, follow-up appointments, and medications (if applicable). At times, adopters will be responsible for procedures not completed in rescue (dentals, bloodwork, etc.) Your new dog will receive their rabies and distemper vaccine. $50 discount for seniors (65+) and veterans. Adoption fees help pay for the dog's veterinary exam, vaccinations (rabies and distemper) HW test, a microchip, and spay/neuter if needed and additional health needs specific to each animal.  Grey Face Rescue does not adopt outside of Minnesota for now. We apologize for the inconvenience. We do not adopt animals to families whose current pets are not up-to-date on vaccinations or not altered. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons as stated by a veterinarian and we will require proof of that recommendation. Thank you for understanding our mission to reduce overpopulation. Once you submit your application, our adoption manager will be in touch, so please check your spam folder if you do not see something from us within 7-10 days. Thank you again for your interest in a Grey Face senior. We appreciate your support!  February 4, 2024, 9:22 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Simba is a very sweet boy.  Once he is comfortable, he wants to always be near his people or preferably in their laps soaking up all the love he can get.    He likes to spend time gazing out the windows or laying in a patch of sunlight. He loves to toss his toys high in the air and then race after them.   This little guy seems to have springs in his legs as he just bounces up and down when he plays, super fun to watch him have so much joy! He is underweight but has shown no resource guarding of his food and takes treats very gently. However, it's best to feed separate from other pets. He sleeps all night in his bed in a gated room and does fantastic, never making a peep during the night. He is completely potty trained as well. He enjoys being outside and chasing tennis balls and often brings them back so should be great at retrieving with more practice.     Simba does have a fair amount of hesitation towards strangers. However with patience, it has only taken a few hours to help him feel safe enough around new faces. He does pretty well walking on a leash but does have some reactivity towards other dogs.  This is a work in progress and will take more training. He gets along  with our 2 resident dogs and reads their body language well. He does well with being handled (baths, checking ears, etc) and has very little shedding.     If you are looking for a sweet little snuggler, Simba may be the dog for you! Simba is from Texas. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sissy is a sweet, gentle, and playful girl.  She enjoys exploring the outdoors and she loves to run and play with the other small dogs in her foster home!  A fenced in yard would be best for Sissy, allowing her to go in/out independently to do her business.  She enjoys going on walks and she is learning to walk well on a leash.  Sissy travels quietly in the car.  She is potty trained, and she enjoys playing and chewing on toys.  It will be important to have a confident small dog in Sissy’s forever home to help her continue to learn to trust people.  Sissy is cautious when meeting new people and it is important to let her settle in on her own timeline.  Despite her cautiousness, Sissy's not aggressive, she’s just timid when it comes to new human interaction. Sissy does enjoy a good rub when she trusts you.  Now that she trusts us, one of her favorite times of the day is when she’s allowed up on our bed in the morning with all our dogs where she can get lots of love and rubs, and she cuddles in next to all of us. She will nudge your hand for more rubs!  With patience, time, and the influence of her small furry siblings, Sissy's confidence is growing daily. Sissy’s sweet playful side shines through every day!  Sissy would be a wonderful companion for another small playful dog.  Sissy currently lives with small dogs and adults. Energetic large dogs and young children make her very nervous.  Older respectful teenage children may be okay, A larger dog that is low key and quiet should be fine with slow introductions.  A quieter household with not a lot of visitors would make Sissy most comfortable.    If you are looking for a sweet, gentle, quiet, and even-tempered dog who’d love to play with your small dog, then Sissy may be the girl for you.  Every day she shows us what a wonderful girl she is blossoming into!  It will be important to be patient with her to earn her trust, and to have a quieter home with no young kids, and no high energy large dogs.  Sissy would be fine hanging out in another room in the house with a “safe place” if young kids visited.  A fenced in yard would be the perfect home for Sissy.  Fill out an application, I’d love to tell you all about this sweet girl!    Sissy is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Bruiser! Bruiser is a playful soul, especially when it comes to interacting with other small dogs. She thrives in the company of confident canine companions, often looking to them for guidance as she continues to become more comfortable in new situations. She is becoming more trusting of the world every single day!  As she is continuing to be more confident, she's a bit particular about how she likes to be approached—no head pats or top-down greetings for this gal. It makes her uncomfortable. Instead, Bruiser prefers a more gentle approach, with a hand sniff and chin scratch being the key to her heart and making her comfortable. A typical day in Bruiser's life starts with a morning routine of outdoor time, followed by breakfast in her crate and a well-deserved treat. Throughout the day, she enjoys hanging out by her foster parent's side, playing with her furry friends, and going on short walks with other small dogs. Bruiser is a creature of comfort, preferring to have her harness put on while nestled in her bed. As the day winds down, Bruiser settles in for dinner in her crate, followed by some relaxation before bedtime. She's a loyal companion who thrives on routine and loves nothing more than spending quality time with her foster family. Bruiser has not been introduced to children or cats. If you're in search of a furry friend who's equal parts playful and affectionate, Bruiser might just be the perfect match for you. Bruiser is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet PrincessPaislee! She just joined her foster home today, and here’s what we’ve discovered about this sweet pup so far: Since her arrival, she has been very quiet, with only occasional light whining in her kennel. She ADORES my youngest, who is six years old, and tries to snuggle under his arm to lay on his lap, making her tail spin (just like Tails from the Sonic movie) with joy when she’s with him. She politely approached my son and quietly tried to take his chicken nugget box. When he took it back, she didn’t protest and just watched. She cuddles with my 15-year-old at night and doesn't pay any attention to the four cats in her foster home. PrincessPaislee enjoys cuddling but is also content to lay alone. She hasn’t shown any interest in the cats she’s encountered in the house. She does get a bit spooked when her leash drags and catches on something, so she is cautious of new things. She really dislikes loud noises. While she won't run and hide, she will calmly remove herself from the situation. She isn't fond of dogs barking in her face but is fine with them if they give her space and earn her trust. Therefore, her adopters should have a calm dog that respects her boundaries. However, once she feels safe, she really opens up. Her coat is unique: the hair on her back legs and tail is short, while from mid-back to the front, it is super thick and soft. She’s a beautiful girl inside and out! PrincessPaislee is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Playtime is Sonshine’s favorite! While Sonshine doesn't necessarily need a canine companion in her forever home, she could benefit from having a playful dog sibling to keep her entertained.  She would love to play with them ALL day long!   Look at this video and this video of Sonshine having the time of her life with our resident pup. She will chase cats if they move, but then she barks and play bows. Our four resident cats sit on the kitchen chairs while she pounces at them for a bit, but they ignore her, and she soon moves on to a toy. She is loud when she sees new dogs, barking for long periods before calming down and wanting to be closer to them. She should be with calm dogs that respect her boundaries, as she will snap if they push her too much. When she saw our resident bunny, she barked whenever it moved but lost interest once it stayed still. She loves to be held and cuddled. Due to her size, I recommend no very young kids who might fall on her, as she is always at your ankles and likes to be with her humans as much as possible. One thing's for sure—Sonshine absolutely adores toys. Whether it's a squeaky ball or a plush toy, she'll play with them to her heart's content.  Sonshine is good with all people and loves to interact, but she has a quirky habit of playfully nipping at pants to initiate playtime. Smaller, younger children may not be the best fit at this time because of this. Barking is one of Sonshine’s favorite pastimes … LOL. She barks to get your attention, when she sees a new dog, or if she's kenneled. She’s definitely not suited for an apartment, as she would bark at any noise she hears. Think of her as an itty bitty doorbell. Our resident pit bull-boxer mix has been very understanding of her barking and backs off until she stops. Her new family, if they have a dog, should have one that can handle her barking without reacting. I'm guessing the barking will calm down once she feels more secure. She loves to sleep on something soft, whether it's furniture, a big blanket, a dog bed, or even a pillow on the floor, though her favorite place is with a human. One of her ears is tipped, giving her a uniquely adorable head tilt. She is a vibrant, happy, cuddly little love bug. On walks, she loves to search for small sticks to carry with her. She is truly the most friendly, loving Chihuahua we have ever met. She’s the smallest foster dog we’ve ever had the pleasure of fostering and has been a total sweetheart. Not your typical shaking Chihuahua who is fearful of strangers—she wants to be with all humans, all the time. If you're ready to welcome a fun-loving and spirited pup into your home, Sonshine might just be the perfect match for you.  Look at this adorable video of Sonshine!   Sonshine is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
