Story
Meet McGee: The Elusive Girafuahua Narrated in your mind by Sir David Attenborough, please. In the wild and wonderful world of rescue dogs, there are many fascinating creatures. But few are as rare, as leggy, or as delightfully entertaining as the elusive Girafuahua. At first glance, McGee may appear to be a young Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix. But look closer. Notice the small athletic body. The impossibly long legs. The alert expression. The ability to stretch, perch, observe, and somehow know exactly what is happening on every counter, couch, toy pile, and human lap within range. Truly, nature is magnificent. McGee is friendly with humans and loves being part of the action. He has been a fan favorite at social outings. He enjoys toys, walks nicely on leash, and does well in the car. Potty Trained and Crate trained! He is also an expert treasure collector. Stuffies, bones, and beloved toys may be carefully gathered and relocated to his bed, where he can admire his collection like a tiny museum curator with giraffe legs. Like many rare species, McGee has bursts of joyful energy followed by serious cuddle time. He loves to play, explore, and proudly carry his treasures, but he is equally happy settling into a lap with his favorite person. McGee can do well with other dogs, especially with proper introductions and playful companions. However, this long-legged gentleman takes his relationship with his people very seriously and can be a little possessive of them around other dogs. He will do best with adopters who can provide structure, boundaries, and gentle reminders that love is not a limited resource. Adopt McGee, and prepare to share your life with one of nature’s most remarkable little long-legged wonders.

Story
Lily comes into rescue from a recent breeder release transport. She likely spent her life in a kennel so every day things are all brand new to her. Even with this unknown past, she is very brave and slowly, at her own pace, experiencing all these new things. After a couple of days, she was ready to begin exploring around the house. As she became more comfortable, her confidence grew. Once the weather got a little warmer, I started to take her outside to go potty. She is now fully potty trained, no accidents in the house, her kennel or overnight. Outside was a big scary place with so many things that were new to her. Every day, she has shown how resilient she is, expanding her area to beyond my yard enjoying all the smells. She now is comfortable walking around my neighborhood. She can still be leery of new people, large dogs and loud noises still startle her. Lily has adjusted well to a collar, harness and leash. Lily is initially shy and timid but has come to love being held, getting pets, belly rubs and ear scratches from her foster mom. In return, she will give kisses and loves to snuggle in your lap. She is still timid with new people and situations but does not shake/tremble as much as she did. She may allow a stranger to pet her along her side with a proper introduction. Lily gets very excited when it is mealtime. She really shows her personality when I am preparing her food. It is so rewarding to see her tail wagging more. She loves to be held and be near her person. When I need to go out, Lily is kenneled. She does very well keeping her kennel clean and is quiet. In the beginning, I kenneled her at night. She would whimper a bit but settled quickly. She has now graduated to sleeping in bed with me. Lily sleeps through the night snuggled close to me. Lily has found her voice but is quiet for the most part, barking only occasionally when she sees or hears something outside. Lily has recently done okay with dogs during two different dog sitting jobs at my home. She was calm and comfortable around both a small female dog and two small male dogs. While she does not play or interact much with them, she has been able to coexist peacefully. Lily is looking for a very quiet home to spend her golden years. She would probably do well with older, respectful children. Younger kids may be a bit much for her. Medical note: Lily does have a bit of a cough that is most likely due to trachea irritation or some past bronchitis (as indicated in her chest x-ray). Lily had a dental where all but 6 of her teeth were removed. Two weeks later, she had two large mammary tumors and one small mammary tumor removed during her spay. Lily’s biopsy results showed that one of her mammary masses was cancerous (mammary carcinoma). The cancer had spread to the nearby regional lymph node that was removed during surgery, so this is considered metastatic disease locally. The surgical margins were clean, meaning the visible tumor was fully removed. One of the smaller masses removed was benign and not cancerous. The pathologist classified the cancer as intermediate grade. While there is some risk for recurrence or spread in the future, this type of tumor can still have a fair prognosis after surgery, and many dogs do well for months to years following removal. At this time, the report does not confirm spread to distant organs such as the lungs.

Story
Hershey was surrendered when her owner had to move and could not take her along. Hershey is calm, quiet, and very low maintenance. She keeps her kennel clean and is happiest parked on a soft bed or right in your lap. She is definitely a lap dog! She loves playing with her squeaky ball and her stuffed Lamb Chop toy. She does not go looking for entertainment and is content just being near her person and relaxing. She can be a little shy in new environments and does not enjoy a lot of commotion. She may get nippy if someone tries to pick her up, so she needs a home that respects her space and lets her come to people on her own terms. Once she settles in, she is affectionate and will happily become your shadow.Hershey is leash trained, crate trained, and potty trained. She is very skittish outside and will need slow, patient introductions to new outdoor environments. She also really dislikes wearing a halter when outside, so her future home should be prepared to work with her gently and help build her confidence over time.Hershey loves treats and will always show up when food is involved. She would do best on a structured diet to help her get to a healthier weight. She can be protective of her food and toys. She is currently learning to play fetch — she enthusiastically chases after the ball but has not quite figured out bringing it back yet! She also enjoys sitting by the patio door and barking at bunnies and squirrels. She does not need another dog and is perfectly fine on her own. She has lived with kids before, but she would do best in a calm, low-traffic home without a lot going on. Hershey is an easy companion for someone looking for a quiet, steady presence and a dedicated lap dog.

Story
Linda's happiest day was the day she walked out of the shelter and into a home. Her second happiest day? Every day since. This cheerful little girl approaches life with pure joy and enthusiasm. She absolutely loves people (clearly no one has told her she's part Chihuahua!) and gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. Sometimes she gets so overwhelmed by her happiness that she'll throw herself against you and melt into a puddle at your feet, making the sweetest little sounds of contentment and delight. Linda loves being close to her people and is fully prepared to apply for the position of your full-time shadow. She enjoys walks, has been doing well on leash, and keeps her kennel clean overnight. While she may protest briefly if she's separated from you while you're home, she settles nicely when she knows everyone has left for the day. Beneath her sunny personality is a sensitive soul. It's clear that life hasn't always been kind to Linda, but she continues to greet every new person and dog with trust, excitement, and a wagging tail. She thrives with gentle handling and kind voices, and she's eagerly learning what it means to be safe, loved, and adored. Because Linda can get a little carried away with her enthusiastic greetings and can be startled by rough handling or sudden movements, she'd do best in a home without very young children. In return, she'll offer endless affection, unwavering devotion, and enough happiness to brighten even the toughest day. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will adore you with her whole heart, Linda is ready to follow you wherever life takes you.
