🐾 Meet Rusty: The Ultimate Loyal Companion! 🐾 🐶 4-Year-Old Chiweenie (Chihuahua / Dachshund Mix). weighing just 12lbs. This handsome Chiweenie is smart, affectionate, obedient and loyal, he prefers to focus on his adult parents as kids and active or big dogs make him a little nervous. In his foster home, he gets along very well with his dachshund foster sisters, but they don't interact much. He would do fine with a small, mellow canine sibling or as an only dog. Rusty acts like he’s had some formal training. If you’re looking for a dog who loves to stay by your side, Rusty is your guy! When walking on a leash or exploring an off-leash backyard, he stays right with his human—no more than 6 inches away from your leg! He is treat/food motivated so training with treats is very effective! He is highly intelligent and already knows several commands: He knows "Sit," "Down," and "Dance"! He has an excellent recall and comes running whenever he is called. Rusty is an all-around wonderful companion. He does bark at what he perceives as important things to report such as a knock at the door, a strange noise outside, or something suspicious on the TV! Rusty has a high prey drive for squirrels and critters! He loves his person! He is a little timid when meeting new people but once he trusts you, he is your best friend. He is active and playful guy who wants to engage in a game of catch, tug-of-war, or chase. When the day is done, Rusty is the ultimate snuggle partner. True to his Chiweenie roots, he loves to sleep burrowed completely under the covers of the big bed right next to his human. Rusty is almost completely housebroken; he is incredibly smart and will catch on to a new routine very quickly! Because his current foster home requires walking down two flights of stairs to get outside, he has been utilizing potty pads by the door when necessary. He would love a safe, fenced in yard where he could explore and enjoy a good sunbath. He does not require a crate when left alone, he has never bothered or chewed on anything in the house. Meet Shelby! 🐾 Shelby is around 6 years old, 15 pounds, and possibly a Chihuahua/low-rider mix of some sort. Whatever his mix is, he’s an adorable little guy with a big personality! Shelby is a total snuggler and loves being close to his people. He’s happiest hanging out on the couch, napping nearby while you work, or just being wherever his person is. He’s an easygoing little companion who doesn’t need a ton of activity to be happy. Shelby is crate trained and goes right into his crate at bedtime. He’s also potty trained as long as he’s kept on a regular schedule and given the opportunity to go outside every few hours. Because Shelby bonds so closely with his people, he does have some separation anxiety when left alone and would be happiest with someone who is home often. He isn’t destructive. He just really prefers having his people around. Shelby can also be a little wary or protective when someone new first comes into his home. He does best with calm introductions and a little time to warm up. Once he decides you’re okay, his sweet side comes out! He would likely do best with older kids who understand how to give him space and let him approach on his own terms. Shelby is looking for a home where he can settle in, feel secure, and most importantly, have someone to snuggle with. ❤️

3/20/25 We can only repeat what we wrote in August. Please consider giving Toby a home. He asks for little - just a soft bed in an ex pen where he can call that area his own. He likes to be on a schedule of eating/going out in the yard to potty. He needs a fenced yard as he has had no leash training. 8/6/24 Is there not a Chihuahua person out there looking for a little guy who does not ask for much attention? He enjoys being in his ex pen watching the other dogs but not being bothered by them. He's quick to get his business done outside but does need to wear a belly band inside as he likes to sometimes sneak a marking in. Where is his person? He's still waiting .10/24/23 Yes, Toby is a Grumpy old man. But he doesn't require much attention. He's quiet in his exercise pen and likes to stroll around the fenced yard. He'll find a sunny spot to soak up some sun, and then he's ready to come back in and climb back in his bed. Toby is a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix, approximately 6 years old. He came to us from being saved off the streets of a big Texas town. Toby needs a home that can help him trust people. He doesn't really want to be handled but likes to observe from a safe space out of the reach of people. Toby craves the safety of his crate - he will go outside into the fenced yard when you open his crate door, and he comes back in when called and will hop in his crate. He does not appreciate hands in his crate, so if you need to pick him up, talking quietly to him in an area where he cannot hide, he will allow you to pick him up and accept a few skritches. He's black and white and weighs about 10 pounds. He gets along with all the other dogs here and will need a securely fenced yard and someone who will allow him to relax and be with you without needing much attention until he knows he's safe. We have him on a supplement and 2 meds that are added to his 2 meals a day, and he has gained the weight he lost and is eating well. He does need to wear a belly band and his person to remember he can have no treats besides his 2 meals as he gets diarrhea if given food not treated by his meds first.
