Story
Roscoe was born around August 27, 2019 and weighs about 20 pounds.  Roscoe gets along with other dogs and cats and has been around children as young as seven without any issues. Roscoe rides well in the car and walks nicely on a leash. Roscoe has an incredible long brindle coat that, with regular care, will be stunningly beautiful.  He came to us from an unfortunate environment with a flea infestation allergy and since it went untreated so long, he also had a secondary skin bacterial problem which went untreated so long he had some 'alligator' skin doing on in places, all of which has healed beautifully!  Roscoe needed a round of antibiotic and we've continued a bi-weekly bath (which he is wonderful about) with shampoos specifically for itch relief  and anti-inflammatory response which we will send with you if you remind us.  We do leave the shampoo on for 10 minutes and then rinse and we have used a calming conditioner too.  Perhaps, there will come a time in his future when so many shampoos are not necessary, but for us it's a small chore to continue his health and healing.  Although our steps were not expensive, in our opinion, we would like him to go to a new home that won't mind some vet bills just in case he has a flare up again due to stress, etc.  Now back to his personality - it's big!  He is the ultimate lap and snuggle buddy and when I sit at the end of the day I try to find a soft or shiny blankie for my lap and he jumps up, on me, rolls around for a few minutes wagging and smiling (I swear) and then settles in for a nap.  Although I just adore this little guy he needs someone that is available to him more than I am.  He is not a barker.  I'm trying to think of something negative to say about him and am struggling, but I'll keep thinking about it until I hear from some lucky person out there!  Oh, need to mention that he has very sensitive feelings, He gets hurts/worried if he thinks he did something wrong or someone is angry at him.  So, his ideal home will have a soft, friendly, aura. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Story
Pepper was born about August 1, 2024 and will probably top out in the 5 lb. range when filled out.  She has had a loving environment growing up with an elderly woman with few resources.  Coming here, to us (an hour away) was only the second time she has been in a car (in a cat crate) and there was some drooling sickness.  She has been around few other humans with simply no outdoor play time and found comfort in friendship with the other 70 lb. dog and several kitties, she was wonderful with all of them.  We were told she generally uses a litter box with pellets for potty or a potty pad.  Pepper has never seen a veterinarian in her life until she arrived here and we'll be doing all necessary health care to ready her for a new home.  Pepper came from a now closed due to NYS law pet store in Wellsville called Wet and Wild and she was purchased for $900 as a Pom.  OK, well, maybe there is some Pom in there, but she surely looks like a Chihuahua to us.  Her owner was kind and even though Pepper had to come here because she was losing her home and forced to move into an apartment that only allowed one cat she offered us some cash which we promptly denied as we explained that we are so very fortunate to have so many previous adopters along with many dog loving friends and supporters that we told her the most important thing is that she take care of herself and Joyful Rescues and our community of helpers would take care of her dogs.  Thank you all!  On we go..... The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_600.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
The Kramer family has chosen to sponsor the costs of transport and medical care for the 17 Walworth dogs as a gift in honor of all our fur babies we have lost over the years and all my friends' fur babies that have also crossed the Rainbow Bridge - none will ever be forgotten.  Our wish is that each of the Walworth-furred ones find loving homes where they are cherished.  Love, Cheryl, Dave, Ryan, and Cassie Kramer   Benny, born around August 1, 2020 and weighing approximately 13 pounds, came from a home in the Rochester area that needed assistance with their 30 dogs. The owners welcomed too many dogs into their home and eventually became overwhelmed, leading them to seek help. Benny is a delightful little fellow who loves his humans dearly. He may try to herd them if they stray off course, and watch out for playful nibbles on exposed toes, making him unsuitable for homes with small children. Initially shy around strangers, once Benny warms up to you, he becomes the most affectionate companion, eager to cuddle in your lap after some play time fun.  Benny is house trained but we like to mention that often these small dogs benefit from having potty floor pads handy for those just in case moments.  He's comfortable riding in cars, walking on a leash, and even enjoys kayaking—anything to be close to his people. Benny's cheerful demeanor and compatibility with other dogs, regardless of size, make him an exceptional pet who could easily become your most cherished companion.  Benny is also fine with cats. Story
Mocha was born around December 20, 2015 and weighs about 9 pounds.  We were asked to take Mocha because her human was losing the home.  It's obvious Mocha was very loved by her previous humans. Mocha has been fine with all of her new foster siblings, which include dogs of all sizes, kitties, a parrot, and a husband! Mocha moved into the chaos that is her new foster home as if she had lived there her entire life! We are told Mocha is fine around children, but we don't have any children here to test her with.  Mocha rides well in the car and walks nicely on a leash.  Mocha loves toys, burrowing in blankets, and just being with her people. Mocha has been using potty pads in her foster home and is doing well.  She seems to be a move-in-ready, bombproof girl, and we all adore her!  We have seen Mocha with children as young as 3, and she was wonderful with them.  Sadly, we have discovered what appears to be a pea size mammary tumor and another half that size and she will be seeing a vet, likely for surgery, the end of February. Story
Rita was born about January 17, 2016 and weighs about 8 lbs.  She may be little, but her love is mighty and we love her mighty back!  She is adorable and just as sweet as she could possibly be!  None of that nippy Chihuahua behavior with this girl.  She is wonderful with all sizes of dogs here, she is good with cats and we don't have an of those pesky test kids ( ;  here, but she should be fine with them too although the gentler the better.  As with most of these tiny dogs house training especially when it is single digits is a challenge and it will just be easier for everyone if floor potty pads are kept available.  She was fine on her two hour car ride here from Rochester where she ended up alone with her 'brother' on the street and taken into the city shelter.  Her brother had a microchip registered to an elderly woman who said she gave them away to someone she could not recall awhile back and she was unable to take them back at this time.  That is quite the story and we are so honored to be the ones able to make a good decision for their lives going forward.   Rita's vet appointment at Encompass went pretty well and it's a good thing Rita came to us and then went to the vet quickly as she had fluid in her uterus (so common for unspayed elderly females) that after a time could have turned into infection (pyometra) that is deadly if not addressed quickly.  Now that she is spayed there is nothing more to worry about for this condition.  They did make note that she has normal aging nuclear sclerosis/clouding of her eyes and what RAS (Rochester Animal Services) thought could be mammary tumors turned out to be 'normal fat deposits around caudal mammary glands, no tumors appreciated by palpation'.  YAY!!  She did come to us with some severe dental issues and we began brushing right away and then Encompass extracted some of the teeth that were all but falling out on their own.  We must wait a few weeks until it is safe to put her under anesthesia again and she will have a complete dental likely involving more extractions since it seems there is one tooth a bit of a kilter right now.  Her senior blood panel was unremarkable.  Another YAY!!   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $400.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
My name is Bean...but for fun you can call me Jelly Bean!!! I am around 8 yrs old and I have the cutest smile...every time you look at me you will smile at all my little bottom teeth protruding. I would LOVE LOVE to be someone`s lap dog as I am a huge cuddler. I am a small senior gal as I weigh about 6 1/2 lbs...I am full of spunk and I am in charge. And of course I judge people constantly and do the chihuahua tremble & shake. I don`t like living with dogs, so no dogs for me...but I can live with cats, and being honest from time to time I have done a little cat chasing in my younger days. I absolutely love people and children, and I enjoy being the center of attention!
