Story
Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617Could he do well with kids? Yes, with children around 14 years old.Could he do well with other dogs? Chonk can be selective with other dogs. Multiple meets might be necessary.Has this dog lived with cats? Yes. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Chonk is an older, reserved dog who is slow to trust. During his reassessment, he showed discomfort and was hesitant to come out of his kennel, requiring me to carry him outside. His walking improved, but he wanted to return to the kennel and showed reluctance to explore.Although he tolerated handling, he displayed signs of discomfort, like tense body posture and lip licking. He became more engaged with food but stopped eating when I touched him. He showed no signs of resource guarding, and I had difficulty assessing his knowledge of cues since he mostly remained seated and uninterested in play. When introduced to a stranger, Chonk displayed offensive/defensive cues, barking and growling while remaining seated. However, his behavior improved when meeting another shelter dog, as he gained confidence and briefly interacted with her before losing interest.---For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Mr. Poppy This adorable little fella is a spitfire to say the least. He came from a hoarding situation with a lot of other dogs. When he came in he was petrified. We took in several dogs from this home and with each drop-off... they told us these were the last dogs in the home. The dogs were not handled much and he will still run from you if he feels threatened or knows you want to put him in his crate. He can be crated and should be when you are not home, but he really doesn't care for it. Mr. Poppy will require a home with at least one other smaller to medium sized pup or a home where his people are home more often than not. He prefers adults and is what we call our "Parrot dog". He is happy to be laying with you, in your lap, or lounging on your shoulder watching tv. He does currently sleep in bed with his foster mom and dad, so he will need a home where this is ok and furniture is not off-limits. We would suggest a home that is not extremely active as he is reactive to strangers when they first come into the home. He does not do well on car rides, so he will be happy to just hang out at the house with you, rather than going on trips to the store, etc. We are recommending no children under 15 for this little guy. He wants to be the only "kid" in the house. If having a companion who thinks you are his world is what you are looking for and are willing to deal with his limitations, then Mr. Poppy is your boy! When applying to adopt through ODAAT, please know that we take pride in placing our animals appropriately based on their needs and personality. We want the best family for them and the perfect fit for your family. All applications are ran prior to choosing an adopter... This process takes time and we do not adopt out on a "first come first served" basis. Applications are found on our website www.onedogatatime.us .   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 9:50 pm

Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ 🐾 Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a whoot. 😂 As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience. When they are together, if they see other fur babies they get really excited and like to bark. Which is probably, how they survived on their own for so long as a way to protect themselves being so small and older. Even though Skipper eventually warms up to new dogs, it takes a while, and he would probably be happiness as an only dog in his next home. Skipper is very much loved in his foster home. Thus, only the most perfect of home him will he grace. 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN PENNSYLVANIA AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama, Pennsylvania and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! I'm a 'northerner' now!  You people talk funny but I'm getting used to it.  Still not sure what a soda is I mean it looks like 'pop' to me and I want to play in the crick but the dogs here call it a creek that's just wrong next thing you know they will be telling us not to say ya all!!Anyhoo I have 1 brother and 2 sisters.  We are super tiny so we are not going to be adopted to homes with big dogs and we are also not going to homes with children.  2nd Chance told us we don't have to worry they will find us the perfect FUREVER homes and humans that won't make ANY excuse to get rid of us!   We are all pretty excited!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
