Story
Meet Murphy, a four-year-old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. He has known what it means to be part of a family from the very beginning of his life, and through no fault of his own, he now finds himself looking for a new place to belong. Despite the change, Murphy remains the same sweet, easygoing companion he has always been—calm, affectionate, and happiest when he’s close to his people.Murphy is wonderfully friendly and does exceptionally well with children of all ages. He has even spent time around a young toddler who grabbed his ears and snout, and he responded with patience, tail wags, and quiet acceptance. This precious boy is house-trained and comfortable in a crate, often going in on his own when asked. Murphy is quiet and settled while crated, making him an easy dog to manage in the home. While he may experience a little separation anxiety, it is mild and manageable—he may cry briefly when left alone, but he is not destructive and settles with reassurance and routine.Murphy shows no aggression around food, toys, or sleeping spaces. He truly shines during quiet moments, as he loves to be held, cuddled, and snuggled up with his person. He also rides well in the car and makes a pleasant travel companion. On leash, he does fine overall, though he can be a bit unsure with sudden tugs and does best with a gentle, patient handler.Murphy isn’t especially interested in toys and doesn’t quite know how to play with other dogs, but he is polite and respectful of their space. His favorite activities include lounging, relaxing, and watching TV alongside the people he loves. What matters most to Murphy is feeling safe, included, and cherished.Murphy would thrive in a family with children or as a devoted companion for someone seeking a calm, affectionate dog without the need for constant activity. He is adaptable, loving, and ready to settle into a home where he can feel like he truly belongs.Name: MurphyBreed: Chihuahua/Jack Russell TerrierSex: MaleAge: 4 years Weight: 15.0Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: YesGood with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: UnknownAdoption Fee: $550.00  (includes transport fee when applicable)Location of dog currently:   MississippiIMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Good with dogs,
Story
Grandma Betty is looking for a retirement home where she can be loved and spoiled! At 13 years old, this sweet senior deserves a cozy life. Betty sleeps most of the day, curled into a tiny ball in one of our many dog beds. She can be picky with her food, but she seems to enjoy the Farmer's Dog food. She's good with the other dogs at our rescue, but she'll tell them off if they invade her space. Though she's only 6 pounds, Betty can be a bossy little bean when she wants to be! Betty has some weakness in her hind end, but gets around well. She also has iris atrophy, which is likely just age-related and doesn't affect her vision. She's up-to-date on vaccines and recently had bloodwork. She could benefit from a dental, but our vets are hesitant to put her under anaesthesia due to her age and body condition. If you're interested in adopting Betty, please submit an application at https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt
