Story
Adoption Donation   $   499              Located:      MS   (Transportation costs included to the Northeast , plz ask for more details )    Age: approx   5   years old     Weight: 14  lbs Chloe hasnt had an easy life. She was passed around to 4 different homes in her short life then ended up at a local pound. Chloe can be protective of her belongings. She loves treats, saving them that is. She also loves toys, and collects them. She was described to us a a "cat" some days she loves snuggles, and sitting on her humans lap but the next day she would prefer to be alone and will le you know not to touch her. This is the reason for the many homes, as she needs an experienced adopter that understands the breed and will allow her to come around on her terms. She is okay with low key dogs who give her space, so maybe one other dog in the home may be okay as long as he knows the que to leave her alone. She is not cat tested. Also a home with no kids is best for this girl, since some dont know boundaries.  If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  friendsoha@yahoo.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. Story
This dapper fellow is Shorty, being fostered in RI since arriving from Houston, TX where he was an owner surrender at a high intake shelter.  A sad scene for him, but Shorty is resilient and not emotionally fragile,  a quintessential big dog in a little body, self important and chock full of personality, and has dealt with his journey well.  A funny character who can fill a room and keep you laughing, he is a great companion. He knows what it is like to live a happy life in a home, loves his dog bed but is also pert and lively.  He has had some old injury, an ACL tear or slight patellar luxation, and tends to scoot around on three legs at faster gaits, but it does not seem to bother him, let alone slow him down.   Shorty is a long bodied Chihuahua mix of some sort, with that nice delicacy Chis can have.  Ultra sweet with his people, he loves his toys, is very playful and cooperative with other dogs, but he thinks cats are evil so does belong in a cat free home.   He was turned in by his owner reporting him to be six years of age....a bit grey through the face for that, but the vet we had do his health certificate didn't argue that age status, so it may just be his markings. Rescue is always a guess, lol, but what we don't have to guess on is that he is a readymade pet, does well in his crate, enjoys walks and is a very happy boy.  Housebroken overall but not immune to occasional accidents, and he can talk a lot so not ideal in a setting where noise might be an issue,  he will fit into a myriad of situations....a full family, single person or retiree.  Southpaws is happy to maintain its adoption fee at $450, but unfortunately we cannot adopt to residents of Massachusetts and New Hampshire due to state restrictions. For an application, or should you have any questions, please contact Lucy at maramuser@gmail.com

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: 6 months (as of 11/13/25) Weight: 13 lbs (as of 11/13/25) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Hatti, a delightful puppy with a heart full of joy who can’t wait to meet you! We are thinking she is Chihuahua and Dachshund (aka Chiweenie) mix. Hatti is shy in new situations and meeting new people, but is so sweet. Despite her shyness, she's smart and quick to learn new tricks, especially if toys are involved. Hatti's ideal home would be one where she can flourish with love and play. She would do best in a low traffic household without young kids. She is looking for a family that will slowly introduce her to new situations and appreciate her introverted personality. Once she is comfortable in the home she is a happy, playful puppy who loves her toys. She will throw her toys around and self entertain! Hatti is a smart girl that is crate trained and house trained. She could use some work on her leash skills and would love to join you on a walk in a quiet neighborhood. She has been left alone for up to 4 hours crated and has done well.  We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. Hattie recently started a class at Modern Dog and her future adopters would be able to continue with her.  Adopting Hatti means bringing home endless fun and a loyal friend who’s eager to share her love and playful spirit with a family that cherishes her. Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria.  Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop.  Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative.  This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption.  This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see   HERE   for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:   Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org)   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2025, 4:45 pm

Meet Pugsley Adams, the fun-sized treat that’s ready to steal your heart! He is the sweet son of Gomez Adams, who you can learn more about here. The Adams boys were surrendered when Pugsley’s mom gave birth to him and his littermates this past winter, but they are not a bonded pair. Pugsley is a playful and active puppy, ready to bring so much fun and laughter to his fur-ever home. He loves his time outdoors, squeaky toys, and a bit of roughhouse and chase! He can be a little nervous when meeting new dogs, but adjusts very quickly. He’s a smart and affectionate puppy who hopes his new family will help him gain the confidence and social skills he needs. Pugsley is excelling at household manners and crate training, but still needs a little more practice. He walks well on the leash and even enjoys car rides. He doesn’t like cats, so we’d recommend a home without them or any other small animals. This Adams family member is hoping to get away from the “mysterious” and “spooky”—he’s looking for a calm, patient and loving home. We highly recommend obedience training for all of our dogs, especially puppies like Pugsley. Training is a great way to bond with your new family member and reinforce basic commands while building confidence, developing social skills and having fun. It’s absolutely scary how cute Pugsley Adams is! Will you give him the loving home he deserves?
