Updated 7Dec25 Background Petey’s story began when he was turned in as a stray at Memphis Animal Services. Terrified and confused, he found himself in a noisy, stressful shelter environment that he didn’t understand. He didn’t want to be touched and made sure everyone knew it — not because he was mean, but because he was scared. Sadly, that fear was mistaken for aggression, and he was labeled as “FAS” and marked “rescue only.” Thankfully, a foster stepped up, and that’s when everything changed. Personality The moment Petey left the shelter, his true colors came shining through. Gone was the fearful little dog — in his place emerged a silly, affectionate, tail-wagging bundle of love! He adores other dogs, believes he’s a lap dog, and has been handing out kisses like he’s making up for lost time. He’s proven to be gentle and respectful with cats and even chickens. Smart, playful, and deeply appreciative of the love he’s finally found, Petey is showing everyone that sometimes, a little patience and compassion can transform fear into joy. Ready for Adoption At just 11 pounds and around three years old, Petey is the perfect size for any home. He’s eager to continue learning, loving, and proving that he’s not the “angry little guy” from MAS — he’s a total mushball with a huge heart. Peanut is a three year old 5-7 lb long haired chihuahua or pomeranian mix. He is the sweetest little guy! Peanut and several others were surrendered from a home who had too many dogs to the Marion animal shelter. Lucifer and Lucy are the other two of this group that our rescue took. All three are heartworm negative. Peanut had the worst coat and has a lot of gaps in hair growth, some may have been shaved or cut when he was neutered. We feel with proper flea protection, good food and some medicated baths he will bounce back. He has a great little personality and asks to get in the big bed with his foster mom. Hazel is a 5-7 year-old 11 pound chihuahua / Yorkie terrier mix. She is a little shy when she meets a new person, however, once she warms up to you she loves you with her whole heart. She is a faithful, fun-loving companion who loves to play with toys and snuggle in your lap (or by your side) Hazel is house-trained and plays well with the other 2 dogs in her foster home. She enjoys walks and does well on a leash. She loves to sleep in the bed with her people, but is also quite cozy in her little round bed. Hazel would do well in a home as an only pet or with other dogs. She joined our rescue after being abandoned at a vacant house on a chain - however since then she has been treated for heartworms, has been spayed, and is up to date on all her vaccinations.
