Story
Hi, this is Elizabeth, one of Peanut's co-foster moms. The Nut has been with us so long that a couple of us take turns with him. We both love him to pieces! So, why doesn't anyone want to adopt Peanut? Well, he just doesn't make a good first impression! He wanders around looking super cute and cuddly but if a stranger tries to interact with him he growls and shows his ugly side. Unless you have treats! He will gently take treats and then growl after the bribes are gone! We are working hard at socializing him with new people but he is a tough nut to crack! See what I did there? Peanut, tough nut? 😁 If you are as stubborn as he is, you too can join Peanut's tiny social circle. He currently has exactly 4.5 friends and he is satisfied with that! We are trying to teach him that he can be friends with all. Well, except kids... He is not wrong in his assessment, tiny people can be darn scary! Peanut does warm up to a new owner quickly but will still growl and snarl if you are doing something he doesn't like. You know, something simple, like touching him! He may be a cat stuck in a chihuahua's body. Can you imagine how frustrating that must be for the cat!? No wonder he gets grumpy! I have been teaching Peanut that growls get him nowhere. He is exceptionally smart and he understands the concept but he is also massively stubborn and likes to test me! By the way, current score is Peanut 0, Elizabeth 549. So, what does Peanut (aka, Nutter Butters, Peanut Butter Pie, Peanut Butter and Jelly, The Nut) actually like? His favorite thing is going for car rides! He loves them so much that he will get in the car with a stranger, candy or no candy! He also loves eating (not too much please as his knees aren't the best and they don't need the extra weight). He is always ready for his kibble and is learning tricks to earn treats. He knows sit, sit pretty, lay down, crawl, and is learning how to roll over. The Nut loves to be with his person at all times and is happy to go on adventures. He has gone camping and hiking with me. He can't put in huge miles so he does get carried when his little legs get tired. Peanut generally gets along with all other dogs, big and small. He will get annoyed if one tries to sit in his person's lap but he is learning to share. He also has no interest in toys unless another dog is interested and then he grabs it. He's really just plain rude in that regard! He has met some cats and he has interacted quite well with them. Politely sniffing and then ignoring. I am madly in love with this stubborn little turd but no, I cannot keep him! His perfect person(s) needs to be strong-willed and patient. He needs an owner committed to continuing socialization and training to let him be the good dog I know he can be. If you think that is you, please submit an application. Peanut is heartworm-negative, up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, and ready for his new home! His adoption fee is $175.

Story
Princess is a 3 year old petite 5 lb female Chihuahua. She was abandoned in Lenoir City with her companion Shadow. They were found by the landlord, in a baby play pen, 8 days into their abandonment. Dehydrated, emaciated, and covered with fleas, they were adopted by a Cleveland resident. She realized with her disabilities they were too much cars for her. She brought them to the Ark and they were taken to New Hope Pet Vet. There Dr Casey spayed and neutered them. Shadow had 9 loose and diseased teeth which were removed during his neuter. They were vaccinated, dewormed, and placed on flea tick heartworm prevention. Shadow was placed on antibiotics for loss of hair due to a skin infection and allergies. They returned after three weeks for booster vaccinations. Each had gained a few ounces and Dr Casey cleared them for adoption as a bonded pair. Theu will be inside only with no toddlers due to this tiny size. They are pad trained and also walk on leash for outside potty breaks. To make an appointment to meet these precious pups e-mail ArkofCleveland@aol.com or call 423.472.2744. To help defray veterinary costs, an adoption fee of $225 is required for each dog.

Story
THELMA and LOUISE!!! These girls are like two tiny peas in a pod. Found roaming the streets together. One is 7 pounds the other is 14 and they are believed to be 2 to 3 years old. Both are now spayed, vaccinated and ready for a home and family that will allow them to stay together. Their foster says they are the perfect pocket pups, lap dogs and everything small dogs are made of. These two function together as a unit. You really don’t even know there are two dogs. At this point in time the rescue will only be considering applications for them to be adopted together. If little dogs with huge personalities are your thing, these two are the pups for you. Once adopted they will travel via private transport (transport cost is $150.00 each) to a location closest to you. If you would like to welcome these girls to your home and make them part of your family please follow the link below to our application. https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9

Story
Mija is being fostered in PA Mija is a senior girl that just likes to be left alone. Foster family suspects possible abuse in her past. She has slight vision and flinches when hands go near her but will let you pick her up to take her outside or rub her behind her ears for a minute or two. She then wants to be put down and left alone to nap. She has been with her foster family for a brief time. At first she didn't even want to be touched or held but slowly is learning to trust her foster parents. She is fine with other dogs being in the house but really doesn't want to have anything to do with them - except she will occasionally lay on the same bed as another dog. She is perfect for someone that just wants a companion and has the patience to let her become comfortable. She has started going up to her foster mom for attention so the foster family is confident that with time and patience she will be a lot more affectionate. The foster family is attempting to house break her. She will go to the bathroom outside but will just stand there and wait for someone to take her back inside. Foster mom is also trying to teach her how to use a wee pad but so far has been unsuccessful. It is a work in progress. Do you have room in your home and heart for a little girl that really needs to be loved? BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing.
