Story
If you’re looking for the perfect Lady, we’ve got her right here! SNIPSA rescued this little red Chihuahua off the city’s euthanasia list just hours before her time. Lady had been surrendered to the local shelter as she had a large ulcerated mass on her chest, and her owners didn’t have the resources to care for her. So, we took Lady under our wing and started to tackle her medical needs. She had surgery to remove the large mass on her chest and also an unexpected benign tumor in her spleen. While we were able to remove both tumors, Lady has since developed several more mast cell tumors. Unfortunately, these tumors are not very responsive to chemotherapy so we have decided to provide Lady with the best life we can while she is with us. While we know it is somewhat of a tall ask, we are hopeful we can find a special person willing to love on her the duration of her earthly life. Currently, Lady is doing fantastic in her foster home. We have learned she loves to fetch and is her foster mom’s perfect shadow. She is very loyal to her chosen person but isn’t afraid to branch out and make new friends. Lady does well with cats and other dogs though being a Chihuahua she can be a little bossy:) Lady uses her special stairs to get up on the couch and she has a cozy spot that she has claimed at the foot of the bed. She is eager to join in on car rides for trips around town and will happily peek out the window to watch passing cars. With her confident and loving disposition, Lady would make a great travel buddy or work-from-home companion. She is currently taking a regiment of antacids and steroids to manage the mast cell tumors. So don’t scowl when you see she is a little on the chubby side. It’s just a crummy side effect of the prednisone. But in the end, it’s just more Chihuahua to love! Lady is one of our favorites–she is a blessing and deserves a blessing. We only want the best for her. Please consider opening your heart to this special girl.

Story
Precious, petite lil' Poppet! Everyone loves a Chug (or a Chihuahua/Pug mix), and this girl is no exception. Chugs are known to be affectionate, loyal and confident companions. Our Poppet fits this bill with her easygoing, upbeat personality. In addition, her adorable underbite and stumpy legs are just too cute to pass up! Poppet thrives around her people, and she will let you know how much she loves you by giving you all of her best cuddles and tail wags. While Poppet is potty trained and crate trained, she loves to share the bed with you, curling right up in your arms or at your feet. As an adult, she has also mastered all of her manners, so you get to skip out on that stubborn puppy training phase! She won’t be getting any bigger either, making her the perfect size to tag along with you wherever you go! Submit an application to meet Poppet today if you’re looking for your next best pal!

Story
Libby has become the sweetest, most playful and at times a perfect little couch potato Chihuahua you could ask for despite her past. Libby is 4 years old and weighs 10 pounds. She has had a long and rewarding rescue journey. Libby was taken from a disgusting and cruel breeding situation. There were 70 animals, some deceased, that were confiscated in South Bexar County at the end of July 2023. We received her 3 days after being impounded and Libby gave birth to 5 pups. Only three puppies survived. Despite being physically depleted Libby was an excellent mom for her remaining 3 pups for 9 weeks. When Libby arrived, she was so fearful she belly crawled everywhere and cowered whenever we reached for her. As she became more comfortable, she began playing with and teasing her puppies by running with their toys and rolling them around in their enclosure. After weaning her puppies, she went to a quieter foster home where she has flourished. She has become more social, loving and happy with people. She routinely grabs her toys, tries to engage her foster parents and canine friends to play with her. She sleeps with her fosters and will chill on the couch while watching TV with them. Libby is housebroken. She will need work with leash walking. Libby is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $250. If you would like to meet Libby, please submit an application from www.poquitapawsrescue.org.ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Poquita Paws does not have a shelter, all of our dogs are raised in foster homes.  Each dog comes spay/neutered, rabies shots appropriate for their age, and dewormed twice.  The dogs are up to date on vaccinations according to their age at the time of adoption.  They are microchipped, heartworm tested and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventrative.  ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE. Story
Shake ‘em up, shake ‘em up, shake ‘em up, SHAKE 'EM! This duo of seasonings is full of rescue flavor! Pepper and Paprika are two young ladies who were rescued by CASA, a community outreach program that helps animals in need make a smooth transition to rescue life. Lucky for these girls, they were able to come straight to SNIPSA and avoid the stress of being held at our city shelter. These doggos have made a fast adjustment thanks to CASA, and have been wagging their tails and stealing kisses since they got here. They have proven themselves to be total lap dogs, lapping up any attention they can get. And their small size makes their affectionate nature all the better! Being adults, these mini mutts won’t be putting on any extra pounds. While we don’t think that Pepper and Paprika are related, we do think they have one thing in common: they are both Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are popular pets due to their portable size, manageable energy level and fun sense of humor. Affectionate with a touch of independence, they make wonderful companions for people of all ages and lifestyles. So, if you are a tiny dog lover, you might find a new friend in one of these rescue pups. Apply today and add some spice to your life!

Story
Dulce is a precious 10-week-old Chihuahua Blend weighing 6 pounds. She has a beautiful coat of contrasting white and tan. This sweet little one was given to a lady in Lowe’s. She had her senior dog in the basket when a man approached her with a long story about how he got this puppy, but he couldn’t take care of it as he was in a very unstable situation. This compassionate lady took the pup, but it didn’t take long for her senior dog to revolt at the idea that this busy energetic little thing might stay. The woman reached out to us, and she became part of our pack. Dulce loves her toys and bed and is able to entertain herself for hours. She is working hard on her housebreaking, and she told us we need to work a bit harder to help her with her schedule. She would be great in any loving home with time to spend with her and train her. Very young children would not be appropriate. Dulce has her age appropriate Microchipped, wormed and has seen the vet. When she is bit bigger and older Poquita Paws will be responsible for her spay, adoption fee is $300. If interested in Dulce, please submit an application here. This was a recuse dog, found on the street. We kept her for a year and we are moving and can’t bring her. She needs to be trained and someone with a lot of patience, probably someone with experience with dogs. Once she bonds with you she is very lovable.
