Story
Meet sweet Cookie! Cookie arrived with her daughter, Oreo, from Texas, and both are ready to find their forever families. Cookie is about 7 years old and 35 lbs of beauty! Cookie is incredible smart and eager to learn. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids. She is house and crate trained. Cookie loves exploring outdoors and her favorite thing is to go on walks. While she enjoys playing with other dogs, she's also very happy to hang out with you while you for your work or watch a movie. Cookie can be a bit shy initially, so she would do best in a home with another dog to help her build her confidence. She'd love a family that will be patient and give her a chance to come around. Once she learns to trust, she'll be your best friend. Cookie is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. Story
https://foha.org/pet/ashland2021/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Ashland — a gentle southern soul with endearing ears and a deep loyalty to those I trust. I’m all about peaceful walks, relaxing car rides, and cuddling up with my favorite humans. I walk beautifully on a harness and would love to be your nature-walking buddy. I’m shy at first, but once I feel safe, I become an affectionate companion who loves belly rubs and silly zoomies in the yard. Because I’m sensitive to new environments and fast introductions, I’m looking for a calm, adult-only home with an experienced adopter who understands dogs like me. I’ll thrive in a quiet, single-family home where I can be the only pet. HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I prefer to be the only pup in the home. Other dogs stress me out — I shine best solo! HOW AM I WITH CATS: Not a good match — please, no cats. HOW AM I WITH KIDS: I need a home without children. I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Sit and Down — no treats required, just love! MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I do well in calm environments and adapt to routines. FOHA can provide more specifics. THINGS I LIKE: Long, quiet walks • Snuggling on the couch • Treats • Belly rubs • Riding in the car THINGS I DISLIKE: Crowds • Sudden noise • Fast introductions • City life • Other dogs on leash FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/ ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy (training & behavior support), slip lead leash, 1 bag of starter food, 1-month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical care as needed.

Brody's Rabies Click Here Oftentimes, black and darker colored dogs languish in shelters much longer than lighter colored dogs. There are a lot of reasons for this. Potential adopters often rely on a “first look” with photos rescues and shelters have provided online of individual dogs, and dark colored dogs are more difficult to photograph. Some people may have an aversion towards animals with dark coats based on superstition or personal belief systems. And some people think black and dark colored dogs look more menacing than they actually are because their dark faces make it harder to read their facial expressions.  Unfortunately, these stigmas translate into real-life adoption rates and a lack of interest in these beautiful pups who deserve homes.  TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT BRODY We estimate Brody was born around October 2019. Please see attached file BrodyDogFactsReport.PDF to see exactly what mix of breeds is in Brody’s DNA.  We also ran the DNA Health assessment to see if there are any health risks based on his DNA. This will give a lot of insight to prospective adopters. What it will not tell you is what it is like living with Brody.  Brody came into the care of Home At Last Sanctuary October 2023 as an owner surrender.  He was adopted in Atlanta GA, after a few months moved to Boston MA, after a few months moved to Silver Spring MD with the parents of the adopter.  The person that adopted Brody moved once again to Los Angeles CA and left Brody behind. Brody was extremely insecure and was very reactive to other dogs on the walk and out in public.  He is doing much better and will need someone willing and able to continue nurturing confidence in Brody.  Brody has found comfort in a regular routine.  He knows where he fits in.  He is a very affectionate and loving dog. As of now, April 2025, Brody has share his foster home with eight other foster dogs.  Five have been adopted and he lives with two other dogs now.  There are links below to videos and photos of Brody and you can see him interact with the other dogs. He weighs about 37 pounds, is healthy, active, and playful dog.  He likes attention and will snuggle in for giving and getting love and attention.   He is good with other dogs after proper introduction.  He would not likely do well with cats.   He has not been evaluated around children.  It does seem as like he would do will with children that is respectful of dogs boundaries and adequate supervision from adults. Home At Last Sanctuary, Inc. offers certified previously owned dogs to be perfectly matched lifetime companions.  Brody's personal Webpage: Click or copy paste this link https://hals.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=19883451 There are photos and videos on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.6624654667615858&type=3 Here is Brody's video playlist on YouTube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6X5lkFtFSjOW9jfMwgBV9FH6z9x3P0ob&si=rstM6Fxd7yXM3f_m Brody has videos here too: https://www.facebook.com/HalSavesDogs/reels/ Please be aware.  We only place dogs within a one hour drive from Rockville MD.  When we have an approved application Brody will come for a home visit and meet and greet.  We will spend adequate time to determine if this is a good match.  We return another day once the new family has prepared to do an adoption. Rusty enjoys a slower pace of life. He loves to be rubbed and hang out on the couch. He does enjoy his walks. He gets along with other dogs as long as there is a proper introduction. He is a happy go lucky boy. He has hip issues so long walks aren't recommended. He does like walking leisurely around the yard. Story
Muffy came into my life after her previous owner passed, and she’s proven to be one of the sweetest, smartest dogs I’ve ever known. While she’s shy at first—she needs a few slow, patient meet-and-greets to warm up to new people—this loyal girl becomes a total lovebug once she trusts you. She’s very well-behaved, masters cues like “sit” and “come,” and adores daily walks or hikes. Muffy would thrive in calm, quiet home with 1-2 adults who understand her cautious nature. She’d do best in a home without cats or small children. She could enjoy a home with another friendly dog if it is the right fit (she can be particular about other dogs but there are some that she really loves). A securely fenced yard is a must, as she loves being outside. Muffy’s heart is full of love—she just needs the right person to give her time and space to share it. If you’re ready for a loyal companion who’ll repay your patience with endless devotion, Muffy is your girl.

Story
Catrina is a 1.5-year-old Australian Shepherd Dog/Chow mix with a low center of gravity, a thick coat of fluff, and a whole lot of personality packed into her 49-pound frame (she’s working on slimming down to a healthy 40—but don’t tell her that). This girl is obsessed with toys. Plush toys, squeaky toys, chew toys—she’ll happily empty the entire toy box and entertain herself with whatever she finds. Fetch is her favorite game, and she’s always up for a round of zoomies in the yard or a good long walk to sniff the neighborhood. She’s surprisingly athletic and would probably crush it in agility or obedience training.Catrina is very food motivated and already knows a few basic commands. She’s crate trained and does great overnight or while her foster is at work. House training is still in progress—but she’s getting there with routine and patience.Leash walking is also a work in progress. She loves her walks but gets excited by dogs, squirrels, and other Very Interesting Things. She’s stronger than she looks, so she’ll need someone ready to work with her on leash manners.Catrina gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a playful companion, but she’d also be fine as a solo dog—as long as she gets enough activity and attention. She is shy with new people and appreciates slow, gentle introductions on her own terms. For this reason, she’d do best in a calm home without small kids and with an adopter who isn’t hosting a parade of guests every weekend.Once she trusts you, though, Catrina is loyal, silly, and full of affection. She’ll stay close, nudge you for attention, and supervise all your snack-prep activities. She’s a one-of-a-kind pup looking for someone who appreciates her quirky, playful nature and is ready to help her continue growing into the awesome dog she’s meant to be.If you’d like to take Catrina home, please fill out an adoption application at this link – https://animalalliesrescue.org/dog-application. The adoption fee is $350 and and covers all expenses needed to prepare dogs like this one for their forever homes. By the time you meet them, they’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age-appropriate) and microchipped. They’ve been checked by a veterinarian and are up to date on necessary vaccinations, including Rabies and DHLPP. They have also been tested for heartworm and tick-borne diseases and have started heartworm and flea preventative medication. Some of our dogs have even undergone extensi
