Story
"Larry is a 4–5 year old, 18 lb Cockapoo who can only be described as a little ray of sunshine ☀️ This sweet, snuggly guy lives for his people and would happily spend all day curled up in your lap. He’s a pretty chill companion overall—quiet, easygoing, and content to just hang out—though when he gets excited, he shows it in the most adorable way…by bouncing straight up into the air with all four feet off the ground. It’s impossible not to smile when you see it. Larry has been great with other dogs but doesn’t seem all that interested in playing—he’s much more into companionship than chaos. Because of his sensitive nature, he’s looking for a home without young kids. He can also be a little “cat-like” at times and will politely let you know when he’s had enough attention. He does best with a crate when left alone, as he can get a bit anxious and will pace or scratch. No shared walls though, because if it’s not bedtime he will vocally show his dissatisfaction. He’s happy as a clam in his crate at night, though! Just be prepared—this boy is clingy in the best way and will want to be your little shadow. Larry recently had a full dental (including 25 teeth removed!) and is feeling so much better. He came to us from a local Colorado shelter as a stray in rough shape, with a severely matted coat that made even basic movement uncomfortable. Now that he’s cleaned up and cared for, his happy, loving personality is shining through. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate little companion who will keep your lap warm and your heart full, Larry is your guy 💛" Larry is being fostered in Loveland, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/larry/. Story
Hi, I'm Budie. I'm a 7 year old Cocker Spaniel. My owner passed away and I'm sad. I'm a sweet boy and would just like a nice place to curl up and cuddle.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2697612##

Story
Barnabus is an amazing pup with a huge love for fetch—give him a ball, and he’s the happiest dog in the world! He’s looking for a gentle and patient adopter who will let him take his time to build trust. Barnabus thrives in a calm environment where he’s spoken to with kindness and allowed to come to you on his own terms. Once he feels secure, his sweet and loyal personality truly shines. While he’s not a fan of constant cuddles right away, Barnabus warms up beautifully with stability and love. He enjoys quiet walks, watching the world go by, and engaging with the people around him. He’s great with kids, other animals, and people, making him a wonderful companion in the right home. Barnabus does have a quirky growl, but don’t be alarmed—it’s his way of asking for attention, especially when he wants to play! He’s been misunderstood in the past, but in the right hands, he’ll flourish into the perfect, devoted best friend. If you’re ready to offer Barnabus the care, understanding, and love he deserves, he’s ready to meet you! Fill out an application today to bring this playful and protective boy into your life.
