Story
I’ve had Sybil for a while now, which is OK with me as she is my best and easiest dog in the kennel. But, she is ready for her forever home and her forever person. She was a bit of a challenge when I got her, but she has recovered and then some. I did do a fair amount of training work with her, she is a easy student and a very quick study. She loves being out in her yard seeing the world, barking at deer, romping w/the other dogs when we go by on our walks and most of all, hunting mice. Which is a bit annoying as she does create some good holes. Sybil is good on a leash and I enjoy our walks together. She’s an energetic dog, but not a hyper dog. She is the only dog in my kennel not to bark when i walk the other dogs. She calmly waits for her turn. Sybil is independent, but also loves her person and will be a dedicated dog. She likes people but seems to meet women better than men. Which isn’t unusual. She also does well with other dogs with a proper introduction. She does seem to be choosey though, likes and dislikes dogs for reason I can’t understand. Sybil isn’t an anybody dog. She is very smart and needs someone who is a bit dog savvy and will be the alpha leader. Being the alpha leader is not a physical thing, it’s how you think, your attitude, and demeanor. She’s an awesome dog. And she would like her forever home. If that someone is you and you would like to meet her.

Story
Neeko’s Story – Please Read ?? I need people to read this one all the way through, because Neeko is running out of chances and it’s not his fault.Neeko is only 3 years old, but he has already been in multiple homes, multiple fosters, and now back at the shelter again. Not because he’s a bad dog — but because he has never had a stable life long enough to learn how to be one.Neeko came to PAC in January 2023 as a 7-week-old puppy from Rayville, Missouri. He went to foster, then was adopted in April 2023 — what should have been his forever home. But on 9/2/25, Neeko was surrendered after the owner’s wife passed away. From what we were told, Neeko was allowed to run freely through the neighborhood and was never socialized with people — only his owners. When he was surrendered, he was shaking so badly it looked like he was having seizures. He hid in the smallest corners and just whined. He was absolutely terrified.Since that day, Neeko has been bounced around over and over:9/11/25 – Foster to adopt ? returned because he was “too big”9/20/25 – Went to a foster to decompress1/3/26 – Returned from foster1/20/26 – New foster who considered adopting3/10/26 – Returned because they were going out of town and decided not to adopt3/10/26 – Went to foster to adopt again the same day3/21/26 – Returned againThat is at least 5 different homes since September.Imagine being that dog.One foster said:“He’s a sweet boy. He knows how to shake and sit. He takes treats very gently. He loves stuffed toys and watching TV. He adjusted well when we moved his bed. He never had accidents, never chewed anything, and doesn’t have separation anxiety.”Another said:“He is very well potty trained. He really needs a fenced yard where he can run. He remains a challenge but I think the right home could reduce his energy and anxiety.”The most recent return said:He doesn’t walk well on a leash, doesn’t like men, and is becoming destructive when people come to the door. But here’s the thing…This sounds like a dog that is regressing from being bounced around his entire life.Every time he starts to adjust, he loses his home again.Every time he trusts someone, they disappear again.Every time he feels safe, he gets moved again. He’s learned how to sit, shake, and be a good boy — but he’s never been taught that people don’t leave.Neeko doesn’t need perfection.Neeko needs consistency. He n

Story
Meet Twix! Twix is a 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog with a clear set of priorities: snacks, socializing, and living his best life. While staff is busy in meetings, Twix is perfectly content keeping himself entertained with yak chews and peanut butter containers — proving he’s a dog who knows how to enjoy the moment. Twix came to PAC after being found as a stray. A kind good Samaritan gave him a safe, loving temporary home before bringing him to us, and during that time, he proved to be a sweet, well-mannered houseguest. He did well with children and was comfortable being crated, showing early signs of a well-rounded, adaptable dog.Personality-wise, Twix is a social butterfly. He has never met a stranger and greets everyone with bright eyes, wiggly excitement, and a happy attitude. And if you don’t notice him arriving? Don’t worry — you’ll hear him. Twix’s unique, gentle “Darth Vader” breathing ensures his entrances are always announced. As an Australian Cattle Dog, Twix is an active, intelligent, and highly social breed. He will thrive in a home that provides mental stimulation, physical activity, and consistent training. Twix may also display herding behaviors, particularly around children, so an adopter familiar with or willing to learn about the breed will be best for him.If you’re looking for a happy, snack-loving, endlessly social companion, Twix is ready to join your family and show you how fun life can be with a devoted, goofy best friend.
