DOB:  8/15/25                                 Current Weight(as of 1/10/26) 30pds Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Melvin has a very sweet, gentle nature. He does well with dogs of all sizes even the smaller 10pd babies. Melvin leans against you for all the lovins he can get. He can be a snuggle baby.  He is crate trained (this means he will be content in his kennel overnight unless he needs to go potty and then he will bark to go outside to potty... he still needs potty breaks thru the night), and we are working on the housebreaking. Melvin is catching on but needs more time, patience and love to conquer this skill. He is so worth the extra effort. He was introduced to cats and greatly respected their space.   Melvin will make a great companion to any home wanting a larger dog. We are only GUESSING he will weigh over 50pds but not knowing his breeds we can only guess.  Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption. All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Hopper is a beautiful Border Collie mix with medium-long hair and lots of brainpower. This boy showed up as a stray, and we took him in right before the storm so that he would be safe. We are still getting to know Hopper, but so far he appears to be a medium-high energy dog who won't get any bigger than 50 lbs, even once he's gained an appropriate amount of weight. With his red and white markings, long hair furnishings, and ears that he holds standing up 80% of the time, he is obviously a handsome boy. Hopper is intrigued by the brief meetings he's had with other dogs; he is never aggressive, just a little unsure. As we continue to integrate him into our dog playgroups, we expect his confidence level and enjoyment of other dogs to increase. With humans, however, Hopper needs no guidance. He greets new friends politely, is happy to rest his head on your leg, and does not jump. He is comfortable and happy around the children he's been introduced to, and as a Border Collie, he is prone to sticking close and keeping an eye on those he cares about.Hopper LOVES toys. He seems to prefer rubber Chuck-it balls the most, and whether it's a short toss or a long throw, he is ON it. He works hard to catch it in the air, seeks his toys doggedly, and always returns to the person who threw it and releases the ball of his own accord. He even nudges balls forward with his nose, both to return it to a human partner and to keep the game going for himself. He can entertain himself with a ball, but as a herder, largely prefers to have his games involve people. As office dog, Hopper is quiet and mannerly. He waits patiently by your side to be acknowledged, his fluffy tail immediately wagging the second you even glance his way. He does not attempt to steal treats nor does he destroy the items easily accessible to him; he just politely sniffs around or waits for your approval. Hopper would be a fantastic companion for so many homes! Consider making Hopper apart of yours.

Story
Meet Jordie, a 1- to 2-year-old Collie mix with a heart full of joy. This friendly, playful, and energetic dog loves independence and adventures, making every day a new discovery. His bravery stands out in new situations, while his goofy side keeps everyone smiling. Jordie is perfect for someone who enjoys fun and active companionship. He’s ready to bring his playful spirit and loving heart into a forever home. Adopt Jordie and see the boundless love and joy he will bring to your life. Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable. For more information, visit joplinhumane.org or contact the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri at 417-623-3642.

WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org 🧭🐾 Meet Journey — A Sweet Soul Ready to Find Her Way Home 🐾🧭 Journey is a 1-year-old, ~40-pound sweetheart who has spent her puppyhood waiting for something every dog deserves — a family of her own. Born into an unwanted litter, Journey and her siblings grew up without the comforts of home life: no cozy couches, no bedtime routines, and no humans calling her name just because they love her. Yet through it all, Journey’s heart remained gentle, hopeful, and full of love. Journey is friendly, affectionate, and playful, with a soft, loving nature that makes her impossible not to adore. She does great with other dogs and kids, and has a beautiful balance of curiosity and calm. She’s the kind of girl who will happily explore the world with you and then settle in close, just to be sure she’s exactly where she belongs. Her mom is a heeler/border collie mix around 40 lbs, and dad remains a mystery — a charming wanderer who passed along good looks and great genes. Whatever the mix, Journey inherited intelligence, athleticism, and a loyal heart that’s ready to bond deeply with her people. Journey would thrive with an active, loving family who enjoys walks, playtime, and adventures, but also values togetherness and connection. She’s eager to learn, ready to blossom, and so deserving of the life she’s been patiently waiting for. 🐕 Journey’s Details: ✅ 1 year old, ~40 lbs ✅ Sweet, affectionate, and people-oriented ✅ Great with dogs and kids ✅ Playful, gentle, and loyal ✅ Smart and eager to learn ✅ Waiting for her forever family Journey doesn’t need much — just a chance, a safe place to land, and someone willing to love her wholeheartedly. She’s ready to stop waiting and start living the beautiful life she deserves. ✨ Apply today at haydudeequine.org and help Journey finally find her way home. 🐾🧭
