GOOD DOG ALERT! Hey! My name is Jake. I'm a little over a year old, mixed breed boy. I probably have some hound in me but who knows what else. I'm about 40 lbs. I'm a happy go lucky kind of guy. I'm still mostly puppy, so I have a lot of energy and am still learning about how to be a good dog. I really want to be the best boy I can be. I love everyone! And I mean everyone! What I want most in life is all the love and attention I can get and to be with my person/people. I love to play, stuffed toys, bones & hooves to chew on, getting petted and riding in cars. I'm doing well on house training, but sometimes get over excited and forget. When I get my energy out, I'm happy to lay next to you on the couch with a toy while you read or watch TV, as long as you're petting me with one hand. I want to play with all the other dogs, so a playful doggy companion would be good for me. I love children, but can get over excited with little ones and could knock them over. I do have a bad habit of jumping up on people to get attention. It's just my affectionate nature and I'm trying to learn not to do that. When I am really happy and excited I dance with all 4 paws and body wiggles! You should see it! I would like to try some outdoor adventures to help me burn energy. I enjoy a fenced yard but would like to check out other places. I do know my name and will usually come when called. I'm usually not happy to go into my crate because it means being separated from my person, but I'll usually settle down and go to sleep. If you're ready for an enthusiastic pup with the patience to help me keep learning how to be my best self, I might just be the dog for you. Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3 charitable rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, Va. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Butter is a sweet, people-oriented dog who is looking for a home where he can finally settle in and feel secure. After spending a long time in boarding, Butter is now thriving in foster care, and we're getting to see more and more of the wonderful companion hiding underneath all that uncertainty. Butter loves his people and really relies on them for reassurance. Once he's had time to decompress and understand that he's safe, he forms a strong bond and knows that people = good. He loves affection, happily soaking up all the pets you're willing to give, and enjoys playing toss with his humans. He's surprisingly gentle about his favorite game! Butter also loves his crate and considers it his safe space. His future family should understand that his crate is a place of comfort for him and somewhere he can retreat when he needs a little downtime. A fenced-in yard would be ideal for Butter, though he could also do well with someone committed to continuing to work on his leash skills. Butter would be happy as the only pet in the home but could potentially live with other dogs if it was the right personality match. More than anything, Butter needs stability. He's experienced a lot of uncertainty in his life and deserves a home where he isn't expected to figure everything out overnight. Give him time to decompress, learn his routine, and build trust, and you'll get to see the affectionate, playful companion we've come to know. In 2022, we adopted a three-month-old puppy from the SPCA in Virginia. Initially shy and anxious, Albus was listed as a Labrador, but a DNA test revealed he was a mix: 53% Australian Cattle dog, 19% Australian Shepherd, 17% Rottweiler, and 10% American Bulldog. Albus (now 4 years old) is a sweet, fun, and challenging dog! He is challenging due to his reactivity around strangers, which has improved greatly over time. We love Albus, and wish we did not have to rehome him - but we would also like to start a family. Having a baby, and managing a challenging dog is more than we feel we can handle. We are not in a huge rush, and want to find an ideal match. Albus would be a perfect companion in a home with space to run and play fetch, with no young children, and an experienced dog owner who can continue to train him. Because he can be reactive to strangers, a home without many new people coming by would be ideal. We are now in Potomac, Maryland - not Charlottesville!
