Story
Meet Lupine, a young, happy-go-lucky pup with so much love to give. At just 1 year old, this handsome husky/collie mix is ready to make the very most of it with a family of his own. Lupine is, quite simply, sweet, sweet, sweet. He absolutely adores people and loves being close to his humans, whether that means soaking up affection, snuggling on the couch, or following you around just to be part of whatever you’re doing. He’s friendly with strangers, eager to please, and has that goofy, lovable personality that keeps you smiling. This playful boy has done wonderfully with the large dogs he’s met and is always happy to make new canine friends. He loves to play, especially if fetch is involved, and would enjoy a home where he can have fun and burn off some of his youthful energy before settling in for cuddles. Lupine is crate trained and settles beautifully in his crate, staying quiet and relaxed when left alone. He’s mostly potty trained and making great progress, though he may still have the occasional accident as he continues learning. On leash, Lupine is doing well but is still polishing his manners, especially when he spots other dogs and gets excited to say hello. He already knows sit, come, and name recognition, and with his eager-to-please nature, he should continue to thrive with consistent guidance. He has shown interest in cats, so a dog-savvy cat may be a possibility with proper introductions. Lupine is the kind of dog who makes life brighter. He’s affectionate, playful, goofy, and endlessly loving, with so much personality packed into one sweet face. After everything he’s been through, Lupine is more than ready for a forever home where he can be cherished the way he deserves. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2744778##

Story
Meet your new best friend, Catina — a sweet, mellow girl who is 5.5 years old and has a heart full of love and some of the best house manners around. She’s the kind of dog who settles easily into a home and quickly becomes everyone’s favorite companion. This lovely pup absolutely adores people and is happiest making new friends wherever she goes. She may get a little excited and jumpy when greeting someone new, but it’s all pure happiness and affection. At the dog park, while other dogs are busy wrestling and chasing balls, she’s usually making the rounds to collect pets and attention from every human she can find. She walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys her meals with enthusiasm, and has an easygoing personality that makes living with her a breeze. Around the house, she’s calm and content to simply curl up nearby while her foster family relaxes. She’s not anxious, needy, or quirky — just a steady, loving companion who enjoys being close to her people. She’s crate trained, though she doesn’t really need one, and she does just fine when left alone for a little while. The only thing to note is that long car rides can make her a bit drooly or carsick, but otherwise she handles everyday life wonderfully. She does have some allergies that are well-managed with medication, and she takes it like a champ. Her foster family has found it very easy to keep her comfortable and happy. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate dog with a calm spirit, great manners, and lots of love to give, she may be exactly the missing piece your family has been waiting for.      If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Charlie is a good dog who got a bad start.  We have no knowledge of his history and where he came from, but we are pretty sure he has not lived in a house with people.  When he first came to us, he hid from the dishwasher, barked at the television and ran away when first presented with stuffed toys.  He remains easily spooked by noise, but is improving – getting used to the dishwasher, the television, the stuffed dog toys and other day-to-day items in the house.  Physically, he was in pretty bad condition - He was positive for tick illnesses (we gave him Doxy and he is doing bettter now), his coat and skin were in horrible condition (we've given him good nutrition and he's looking a lot better), his teeth were Grade 3 dental disease (we gave him a dental and they are all clean now)!  Charlie weighs about 63 lbs. Charlie is a quick learner, and is adapting to life in a home with his foster collie sister.  He is learning commands and is starting to recognize his name.  We do not crate him, but leave it open and he often sleeps in there.  He is respectful of the house and items in it, and does not jump on the furniture.  He is very cooperative - He pretty much will stand still for almost anything if you ask him to especially if you scratch him – he loves to be scratched.  He grooms well, and is very affectionate.  His fur is growing in nicely since he needed to have some extensive matting shaved.   He’s very focused on understanding and fitting into his new environment.  He watches intensely and you can see the wheels turning as he tries to figure it all out.  He is interested in other dogs and people, and has shown no aggression toward either – but he will bark in the backyard at passing people (and squirrels) with his sister, who loves to do that.   Charlie is quite smart and very eager to please. We estimate his age to be about 6 years old.  If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. Story
Little Eliza is one of our newest arrivals. She has already captured our hearts with her adorable personality. She is already very smart and wants to be where her people are. She gets excited to meet other dogs, new people, and even cats (she's just learning what a cat is). As the days go by her foster mom will learn more and more about her and work on her housebreaking manners. Eliza will be available for adoption mid to late June. Submit your application if you would like to bring this little one home! **Remember that cattle dogs are herding dogs. They are incredibly smart, but they do display characteristics that may not be suitable for your home. Eliza's ideal home would be a large fenced in back yard or a farm where she can work** https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/6a20848a3a8d656ce40f9a7f

Story
Rumi is a very high energy and very social puppy. Her estimated birthday is July 4th. She’s currently 11 months. She very friendly and sweet to everyone. Her favorite thing to do is chasing squirrels. She gets along with other dogs and kids. But unfortunately one of my children developed an irrational fear of dogs (not because of Rumi), and now we can’t keep her. She’s a very sweet dog who loves to go on walks and get lots of pets . I’m hoping her next home is a home who will continue to care for her. She is fully vaccinated and spayed.
