Story
🌼 Meet Layla, the Collie Extraordinaire! 🐾Foster Virginia Beach Move over, Lassie—there’s a new queen in town! Layla is a stunning 4.5-year-old Collie with a heart full of sunshine and a tail that never stops wagging. Rescued with love, she’s now ready to find her perfect forever home—but it has to be just right. Layla is incredibly loving, loyal, and sensitive. She’s what we call a Velcro dog—she wants to be by your side, your shadow, your snuggle buddy. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to sleep in your bedroom and follow you from room to room, she’s your girl. If you prefer more space or crates…she’s not. 💔 Layla has lost two homes due to her people falling ill, and the stress of separation weighs heavily on her. Because of this, we have strict requirements to ensure her next family is her forever. ✅ Layla’s Non-Negotiables: No children under 5. She loves kids, but toddlers are too much. Fully fenced yard. No exceptions! Someone home full-time or extremely limited part-time (no more than 4 hours away, one day a week max). If you work outside the home, you must already have another friendly dog for companionship—and your current dogs must be free-roaming in the house (no crating during the day). If you work part-time and have multiple small children but no other dog, we will not consider the home. Layla is not destructive, but she does not do well being left alone. She requires daily leisurely walks—yes, even in the rain! ☔ Her family must show the financial ability to maintain professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. If you or anyone in your household is currently facing a major illness or health crisis, unfortunately, Layla is not the right dog for your situation. (We’re not talking about manageable conditions like diabetes—we mean anything that could cause future instability in the home.) Layla is the kind of dog who will bring joy and comfort to the right home—she just needs a family who’s truly ready for the responsibility of loving a deeply bonded, affectionate Collie who will give you her whole heart. 💖 She’s spayed, up to date on shots, and recently had a dental. She lives for cuddles, walks, and being part of the family. 📍 Fostered in Virginia Beach 🌍 Adopters must live within 2 hours of Virginia Beach 💌 Apply at www.coastalsheltierescue.org 📩 Please message our Facebook page privately with any questions! If you're ready to share your heart, your couch, and your schedule with a loving, loyal Collie—Layla is waiting. 🐾✨

Story
Meet Maya! 🐾 The Sweetest Blue Merle Collie You’ll Ever Meet! Adoption within 1 hr of Virginia Beach required Maya is a stunning, affectionate Rough Collie—a blue merle beauty with a speckled face and a heart of gold. 💖 She's snuggly, loyal, and happiest when she’s part of the daily rhythm of her family. If you’ve been waiting for a gentle, soulful companion to share your life and your couch, Maya might be the one. 💕 Maya is also on the smaller side for a Collie, weighing around 42 lbs. She’s a little taller than a Sheltie, proportionate, and leggy—with all the grace and elegance you'd expect, just in a more petite package. 🐾 🌟 Why You’ll Love Maya: ✅ Snuggle queen – Maya lives for closeness. She’ll nap next to you, follow you from room to room, and sleep peacefully in your bedroom at night—never crated or alone. 🥰 ✅ Breathtaking beauty – Her coat is a head-turning blue merle, and her expressive eyes speak volumes. 😍 ✅ Dog-social – She requires a dog companion in the home. Maya does beautifully with friendly, playful dogs and has made several best friends in our rescue already. → Don’t have a dog? We’re happy to discuss placing two compatible dogs with you. 🐶❤️ ✅ Kid-friendly – Maya is gentle and sweet with children, best matched with calm or dog-savvy kids taller than she is. 👧💖 ✅ Respectful of cats – She’s curious but doesn’t chase or bother—would do fine with a confident, dog-savvy cat. 🐱 ✅ Playful but easygoing – She enjoys walks, toys, and romping around the yard, but also settles in beautifully once she’s had her time with you. 🎾 ✅ Loves chew toys – Having bones and safe chews around helps keep her happy and engaged. 🦴 🏡 What Maya Needs in a Home: 🔹 Stable home with a fenced yard – A securely fenced yard (minimum 4.5 ft) is required. She’s not a fit for apartments, shared housing, or transitional setups like military housing or moving in with family. 🏡 🔹 Work-from-home or part-time household only – Maya is a true companion dog. She needs someone home most of the day—remote work, retirement, or part-time hours are perfect. → If your dog is currently crated during long workdays or overnights, this won’t be the right fit. ❌ 🔹 No long-term crating – Maya must sleep in the bedroom with her people—on a dog bed, on the floor, or by your side. She gets distressed and vocal if crated or left isolated. 🛏️ 🔹 A dog buddy in the home – She thrives with another friendly dog. If you don’t have one, we’re happy to talk about pairing her with one of her known rescue friends. 🐾 🔹 Long-term stability – Maya needs a permanent home without frequent moves or big transitions. Families that relocate often due to work or military assignments are not a match. 📦🚫 🔬 MDR1 Sensitivity – Critical Medication Restrictions Maya is a healthy, well-adjusted dog—but she reacts dangerously to medications that cross the blood-brain barrier. She has had seizures and behavioral changes from vet-prescribed preventatives. It took months to recover, and a second mistake could be fatal. She has not been formally tested, but this is very common in Collies and Merles. Her history confirms she is MDR1-sensitive and must not receive medications like Bravecto, Simparica, Nexgard, or Ivermectin-based products. She does best with: ✔️ Interceptor Plus for heartworm ✔️ Natural flea/tick protocols with vet documentation This is non-negotiable. We’re looking for someone who understands MDR1 sensitivity—or is willing to learn and follow the protocols to keep her safe. 🧬💊💕 ✨ Maya is ready to bring joy, companionship, and heart-melting sweetness to a home that truly understands her needs. She’s not high maintenance—just a dog who needs to be understood, included, and loved. If you have room in your heart (and maybe your yard for one more), Maya is ready to be your girl. 🐾💖

Story
Hartman is a strong little pup in every way.  He is a Red Heeler through and through! Found with his Momma Red Heeler on a isolated country backroad in Middle Tennessee, he was part of a litter of 6 pups who were only 3.5 pounds when found..  Probably 4-5 weeks old.  That was Feb. 13th, 2026.  This little family was heartlessly dropped off for reasons the good humans in this world cannot understand.   The good samaritan who found them was kind enough to bring them to the already crowded rural shelter and within 2 days they were in the care of a wonderful Critter Cavalry Rescue foster home who helps with litters like this.  We have determined that perhaps the litter was born around the first of January 2025.  The story behind this throw away pure bred Red Heeler momma and her puppies will never be known but the future of their story will be shaped by Critter Cavalry's efforts to help raise these puppies in foster homes and find the puppies and their momma find perfect Heeler loving homes. This smart, energetic pup loves to be in the middle of the action and has already started showing off his natural herding instincts—he’s been known to help “round up” the kids in the yard.  Gently but with a purpose.  Some parents need the help and welcome it.  Others might not and the puppy can be shown that humans do not need the herding help.  Hartman was named this because he has a beautiful and perfect heart shaped spot on the top of his head.  As of March 6th he is 8 pounds and one day should be only 35 pounds tops.  So cute!  What his foster mom says, is that he would thrive in an active home, especially one with plenty of space to run and explore. A big yard or property where he can have a job would be a dream come true for this clever boy. Heelers are known for their intelligence, and Hartman is no exception—he’s eager to learn and loves to please his people.   After a good play session, Hartman is more than happy to settle in for some couch time and soak up all the affection he can get. He’s a sweet, loyal companion who enjoys being close to his humans. Hartman is currently being fostered with young kids, large dogs, and a cat. He’s done well with everyone so far, though he’s still a little unsure about the cat and may bark. With proper introductions and a dog-savvy cat, we think he’ll adjust just fine. If you’re looking for a handsome pup who is smart, loyal and ready for adventure—and cuddles—Hartman might be your perfect match!  Please contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    We can adopt to Tennessee residents where he is fostered and we also transport to the northeast as well to families outside of Tennessee.  We transport most weekends.  Out of state adoptions will be ready around April 10th.      PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 27, 2026, 8:41 am

Story
Hickory is the sweetest boy!!!  This Red Heeler boy pup is one of the sweetest boy pups and his tenderness makes him the puppy who loves being close to his people. When he’s let outside for playtime, his first instinct is to greet whoever is nearby—just to make sure they know he’s there. He can be a little shy at first, but once he realizes you’re safe, he quickly comes out of his shell and shows his affectionate side.   His back story is that he was found with his momma and her 6 puppies, on a country back road in Middle Tennessee, loose and running helter skelter.  This family of momma and 6 puppies were heartlessly dropped off for reasons we will never understand.  Momma is a pure bred Red Heeler called Red Sedona and also seeking a new and Heeler savvy, loving home.  The family was found on Feb. 13th and taken to the local small overcrowded shelter.  Two days later Critter Cavalry Rescue had a wonderful foster mom who helps with litters and their mommas, take them in and get them started on a good path of medical care and human love and socializing.   For a pure bred Heeler, Hickory is on the calmer side and definitely an observer.  At just 8 weeks of age he is only 7 pounds and one day should be a 30-35 pounds smaller Heeler. He would thrive with an active family that has space, a fenced yard and lots of outdoor time spent doing things that satisfies his herding nature and working breed traits.  He loves to explore and would love to have jobs to perform.  He is already showing those classic Heeler instincts by trying to herd the kids around the yard.  Dog savvy children will be fine with this.  After some much-needed playtime, Hickory is happiest snuggling up next to you for a cozy nap.  Because he comes from a highly intelligent breed of dog, you will need to be smarter than him at all times.  He is already catching on to potty training and knows that a crate is necessary for nighttime sleep and containment.  He is so compliant to all of the new training he is being taught.  He loves it.    Hickory is currently being fostered with young kids, large dogs, and a cat. He’s done well with everyone so far, though he’s still a little unsure about the cat and may bark. With proper introductions and a dog-savvy cat, we think he’ll adjust just fine.  If you are interested in adopting this very smart and sweet pup, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com and tell us where you live.  We adopt to not only our Tennessee residents where our rescue is located, but we adopt to the northeastern states as well.  If being adopted out of state, he will be ready early April.  If local to Tennessee, he is ready now to continue his training and bonding with a family in a new Tennessee home.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 8, 2026, 9:04 pm

Story
Meet Red Sedona — a striking pure Red Heeler whose beauty is only matched by her incredible spirit. At just 2 years old, she has already done the hard work of raising six puppies, showing unwavering devotion and strength along the way. Now that her babies are off to find their own homes, Sedona is ready for something she’s never truly had before—a family all her own. Sedona is the kind of dog who leaves an impression the moment you meet her. According to her foster mom (a self-proclaimed Corgi enthusiast), she’s everything you could hope for in a Heeler—intelligent, loyal, intuitive, and deeply affectionate. She doesn’t just want to be near her people—she wants to be part of everything you do. Whether she’s curled up beside you, resting at your feet, or gently sneaking into your lap, Sedona’s love is constant and genuine. She does wonderfully with children over 6, showing a natural respect for boundaries and an ability to listen when corrected. She’s eager to learn and thrives on guidance, already knowing basic commands like “sit” and picking up new skills quickly—her dog door success in under five days is just one example of how sharp she is. Like many Heelers, Sedona has a gentle herding instinct and may softly mouth at fingers as you move about. It’s her way of communicating, not hurting, and she responds very well to redirection. With consistency and love, she continues to blossom into an incredibly well-mannered companion. She’s a dream on a leash, happy to walk calmly by your side, and just as content to relax quietly for hours while you work or unwind. And when her playful side comes out, expect plenty of affection—she’s earned a reputation as a champion kisser and isn’t shy about sharing it. Sedona may take a little extra time to warm up to men, but once she feels safe, her loyalty runs deep. She’s looking for a home that will appreciate her intelligence, embrace her loving nature, and give her the stability she deserves.   SHE MUST HAVE A FENCED YARD After giving so much of herself so young, Red Sedona is ready to be cherished—not as a mama, but as the beloved companion she was always meant to be.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 27, 2026, 8:41 am
