Story
9 Years Rough Sable and White 47 lbs Fenced yard preferred Fostered in Illinois Princess is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. She came to us after her human had to move to a nursing home. Upon arrival, she was a bit unsure of her new environment and was pacing quite a bit. But it wasn’t long before she began trusting her foster mom and settled in nicely. Princess is now seeking her foster mom’s attention several times a day. She will lean on her foster mom as her way of asking a for pets. Princess enjoys all the affection she can get. Princess is a velcro dog and prefers to be near her humans in the same room if possible. She will make herself comfortable in one of the dog beds around the house. Princess is also happy napping in the back yard on a nice day. Princess is a reserved, calm and friendly gal. She is a bit shy with new people until she feels comfortable enough to approach, but is good with strangers. Princess is very well mannered and does not jump on people, and is generally a quiet girl but will bark when she gets really excited. At mealtimes she will spin in circles and bark when she knows her food is coming. Adorable! If you’re up for a walk, Princess will gladly join in. She has good leash manners and does not pull. Longer walks are a bit too much for her, but shorter ones are just what she needs. Princess was not used to stairs in her prior home, but she can now confidently do a few steps out to the yard and back; however, she is not comfortable with a full flight of stairs. Being an older gal, Princess has arthritis in her back end and spine so a home with no more than a few stairs would be ideal. Princess’ kidneys aren’t working as well as they should and she needs to be let out more frequently to potty. Because of that, Princess would do best in a home where someone is more available to let her out throughout the day. Princess would do best in a quieter household with a peaceful place to take naps. She gets along well with her foster mom’s two collies, so she would do fine in a home with other dogs but would also be happy having her human’s attention all to herself; she is a Princess after all! If you can open your heart and home to this royal beauty, she will become YOUR loyal subject.

Story
2 Years 76 lbs Fenced yard required Fostered in SE Michigan Hey there, my name is Raleigh. I’m a chunky junk food junkie who wants a family to love and a sofa to cuddle on. I recently embarked on a journey that changed my life, and I’m hopeful it ends with me finding the perfect forever home. Let me tell you the best parts of my story. My whole life I lived in my backyard with my sister, but one day all that changed. A kind person came and took us on an adventure beyond my dreams! We traveled from Missouri to a magical place called Michigan. Here in the land of Michigan dogs get to live in houses. It’s wonderful! The floor is cool and clean to sleep on. There’s this thing called a “couch” and it has soft fluffy pillows. I like to rearrange them for maximum softness and cuddling. I think this must be heaven! Speaking of clean and soft—my foster mom gave me a bath. What a surprise! I always thought I was a brown dog, but it turns out I’m mostly white with only a little brown. I’m soft and fluffy too. It feels so nice to be clean, and the best part is people want to pet me and tell me I’m handsome—I really love people. They say I’m a Velcro dog because I always want to be wherever they are. If they forget to pet me, I remind them with a paw tap. When my people leave, I wait right by the door so I can tell them how much I missed them when they come home. I always try to be extra good when my people aren’t around, but sometimes I can’t resist checking to see if anything yummy is up on the counter. My foster mom says I’m a junk food junkie who is awfully chunky and I need to lose weight, but dieting is hard so I like to look for snacks wherever I might find them. At my foster home I have a pack of collie brothers and sisters. They’re cool, but I’d rather have my people all to myself so I can get 100% of the pets and kisses and be the top dog. I think I might like to be the only dog in my forever home, but cats are OK with me. Now that I know how good life can be, I’m excited to have a family of my very own to cuddle with and give lots of love and kisses to. You don’t even have to live in the magical land of Michigan, as long as you love me. Would you like to be the final stop on my long journey?

Story
Rough Collie 3 years old 34 pounds but underweight Fenced yard required Fostered in Illinois Don’t let the smooth-like coat fool you. Three-year-old Grace is a sable and white rough collie. Her coat was heavily matted and the shelter decided to shave her before releasing her to our rescue. Although Grace looks good as a smoothie, her beautiful long coat will return in no time. Meanwhile, enjoy her hugs, kisses, and sweet personality. Little Grace is a sweet and friendly girl. She loves cuddles and giving kisses. She greets strangers by gently jumping on them. She gets along well with the resident cats and two resident collies. She is curious and friendly with the next door neighbors’ dog as well. Grace and the neighbor’s dog jump up on the fence to see each other any chance they get; super cute to watch. Although at times she might be a tad bit pushy towards one of the dogs in the foster home, they both snuggle up for a nap on the couch at the end of the day. When not enjoying the comforts of home, Grace likes running around the yard. She gets bursts of energy and zooms all over the place. This fun girl needs a fenced in yard for sure! Grace is coming along nicely with her training. She knows the sit and come commands and is working on shake and down. She could use a little work on social etiquette. Her table and counter manners are less than ideal, and she tends to jump on people, but we feel that with consistent and gentle training she will learn in no time. Good thing she is food motivated. Grace rides well in the car, is pretty good on a leash, and is fine with loud noises. When outside, she has some difficulty keeping focus as there’s so much to see, hear, and smell while on leash or in the yard. Continued practice with following directions when distracted is recommended. Bath time and brushing is not a problem for Grace. Being a social girl, she likes to be with her collie pack when her humans are gone. One day, Grace expressed her displeasure with confinement. When she was left in a gated kitchen, she somehow managed to escape. She was found sitting on the couch happy and content as if she’d been there all day! And who can blame her? Maybe her nickname should be Houdini. Her foster mom started crating her when leaving for extended periods of time. Grace will whine for a while but will settle down. When everyone is home, the crate is open and you’ll find Grace relaxing there from time to time. With her playful nature and loving kisses, Grace would be a great addition to any family. Story
Fenced yard required Piper is an eight-month-old puppy that is coming out of her shell. Full of sweetness and curiosity, this little girl is also very timid and approaches everything with caution. Piper likes to observe everything going on around her before joining in, but she is slowly making progress with her socialization. Piper wants to be part of the action, she just doesn’t always know how to join in. She will circle around until she feels brave, and then she’ll jump on the couch or plop down on the floor. Piper doesn’t often seek out attention, but when she jumps up on the couch next to you, she soaks up the love and enjoys being petted, and she won’t get up until you move first. Piper will need a family that can be very patient with her and take the time to earn her trust. This sweet pup is her happiest when she is outside. Piper loves to prance around the yard and investigate all the smells and nose around under sticks and leaves. One of her favorite things to do is run around with a toy in her mouth and try to get the resident dogs to chase her. If she can’t convince anyone to play, she will toss the toy around and entertain herself. Piper doesn’t bark when she is in the yard, but loud noises do scare her and her first reaction is to run in the opposite direction, so having a fence to ensure that she doesn’t bolt out of the yard is imperative to her safety. Piper has shown a lot of progress since arriving at her foster home. She quickly learned how to go up stairs, and with a little coaxing (and her foster mom getting tired of carrying her) she learned to go down. She is good about jumping in the car and rides well, she just doesn’t always like to get out on her own. When she arrived, she didn’t know what a treat was, but she slowly started to realize how delicious they are and started to take one if it was placed in front of her, and then a couple days later decided it was safe to accept it from her foster mom’s hand. Piper will need some help with learning commands as she starts to get more comfortable with her environment. When it comes to her ideal forever home, patience is the biggest requirement for Piper’s future family. A calm environment would also help her feel comfortable, so older kids who understand how she feels and how to approach and respond to her would be best. Piper gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She would fit in well with younger dogs, but she might be a bit much for older dogs. She would also be great as an only pup. No matter where she ends up, Piper is sure to be a loyal, fun, and endearing companion.
