Story
Biscuit is a handsome 1 year old mixed breed male pup. He has an a beautiful thick white and gold coat. We expect him to be large size when fully grown. Biscuit is a fun and goofy guy who loves to play with other dogs and steal their toys to get them to play. He loves people and loves to snuggle. He is potty trained in Texas, but his new family should be prepared to do a little additional training in that area, as his routine in your home will be very different than what he is used to in a foster home in Texas. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed and microchipped, and she comes with her medical records and interstate health certificate from a veterinary examination prior to leaving Texas, which certifies her to be in good condition. Biscuit's adoption fee will contribute to our program of readying additional dogs, puppies and kittens which we prepare, transport and adopt out in the Midwest. Our goal is to get as many homeless animals out of south Texas, where we have a severe pet overpopulation crisis.

Story
Are you ready to welcome the cutest bundle of fluff you've ever seen in your life? Meet Puppy, a 1-year-old chow chow, collie, golden retriever mix who was found terrified and roaming the streets of the South before SCCR took him in. He may have had a rocky start, but let us assure you, he's come a loooong way since then.Puppy's got a strategy when it comes to meeting humans. Step 1: approach them with a wagging tail and inquisitive sniffs. Step 2: assess the situation, and if a petting hand approaches, execute an expert retreat! Step 3: entice humans to dispense treats in exchange for trust. Step 4: allow special Puppy belly rub (with his foster parents, he's become a belly-rub connoisseur, with a hint of reluctance and a dramatic flair.) Who knew belly rubs could be both a pleasure and an art form?Let's talk about Puppy's skills. He's like a treat-seeking missile, guided by the invisible scent trails of his favorite snacks. He knows his commands - sit, leave it, and touch - and if you wave a treat, he'll be happy to give you a show. He's playful, too; he loves squeaky toys and a good dog wrestle! Puppy does well with all kinds of dogs, as long as they're not too "in his face." In fact, he'd love a home with a fenced-in yard and a confident doggie sibling who can continue to show him the ropes as he grows up. His best bud & foster brother Jaxson can vouch for this. They're like the canine version of dynamic duo, causing double trouble and playing all day long in the yard.Puppy might not be a cuddler (yet!), but he's got ways to show he cares. Waiting outside the bathroom? Check. Tail wagging with enthusiasm? Double check. And the grand finale - letting you pet him and rub his belly without a disappearing act. Bravo! We're looking for a special kind of human for Puppy, someone with a quiet home (probably no small children) who understands that building trust takes patience, time and treats (mostly treats, though). Puppy's journey to normalizing his fears is a tale of triumph waiting for its final chapter. So, if you've got a bit of a doggy whisperer in you, and a love for treats that rivals his own, then you might just be the hero this fluffy adventurer is looking for!PLEASE NOTE: Puppy does have an abnormal gait that he currently manages well without any medication or pain. Anyone interested in Puppy should apply and speak to our medical team for his medical history and records.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog's individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don't know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Rough Collie 3 years old Fenced yard required Fostered in Illinois Don’t let the smooth-like coat fool you. Three-year-old Grace is a sable and white rough collie. Her coat was heavily matted and the shelter decided to shave her before releasing her to our rescue. Although Grace looks good as a smoothie, her beautiful long coat will return in no time. Meanwhile, enjoy her hugs, kisses, and sweet personality. Little Grace is a sweet and friendly girl. She loves cuddles and giving kisses. She greets strangers by gently jumping on them. She gets along well with the resident cats and two resident collies. She is curious and friendly with the next door neighbors’ dog as well. Grace and the neighbor’s dog jump up on the fence to see each other any chance they get; super cute to watch. Although at times she might be a tad bit pushy towards one of the dogs in the foster home, they both snuggle up for a nap on the couch at the end of the day. When not enjoying the comforts of home, Grace likes running around the yard. She gets bursts of energy and zooms all over the place. This fun girl needs a fenced in yard for sure! Grace is coming along nicely with her training. She knows the sit and come commands and is working on shake and down. She could use a little work on social etiquette. Her table and counter manners are less than ideal, and she tends to jump on people, but we feel that with consistent and gentle training she will learn in no time. Good thing she is food motivated. Grace rides well in the car, is pretty good on a leash, and is fine with loud noises. When outside, she has some difficulty keeping focus as there’s so much to see, hear, and smell while on leash or in the yard. Continued practice with following directions when distracted is recommended. Bath time and brushing is not a problem for Grace. Being a social girl, she likes to be with her collie pack when her humans are gone. One day, Grace expressed her displeasure with confinement. When she was left in a gated kitchen, she somehow managed to escape. She was found sitting on the couch happy and content as if she’d been there all day! And who can blame her? Maybe her nickname should be Houdini. Her foster mom started crating her when leaving for extended periods of time. Grace will whine for a while but will settle down. When everyone is home, the crate is open and you’ll find Grace relaxing there from time to time. With her playful nature and loving kisses, Grace would be a great addition to any family. Fill out an application for amazing Grace today. Application can be found here: https://collierescue.org/DogDetails.aspx?id=2023-038

Story
Fostered in Southern WI Fenced yard required Meet Bowie, a 9-month-old boy who is full of life and energy. Bowie is a smart boy and a quick learner. He is very treat motivated and is therefore pretty easy to train. He is quick to learn new commands and already knows sit, stay, and come. He will even ring a bell to go outside! Not only does he let you know when it’s time to go out, he will also let you know when it’s dinner time. Foodie that he is, he likes his meals served in a timely manner, but he’s a good boy and will politely sit and wait. At bed time, he goes to his bed and is trustworthy during the night. Just make sure you put your socks away. Bowie is a sweet young boy that is lacking confidence. His ideal forever home would be one that will take him to training and work with him on confidence building activities. Bowie is a Velcro dog; he loves to be talked to and cuddled with. He has quickly bonded with his foster mom. A quiet home is what he needs. Bowie plays very hard with other dogs which can be too much for them. He needs firm reminders to play nice and mind his manners with other dog friends. He’s a bit protective over food and some toys. For this reason, we believe he would do best as the only dog in the house. Bowie doesn’t like loud or unexpected sounds. He gets startled easily and will bark. With time and patience, he will get used to new sounds and experiences. Because of this, he would do best in a quieter home with a fenced yard. Bowie has developed a fear of some men. His ideal forever home would be with a female or with a family who will be patient in developing a relationship with him. If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, best pal and companion who will remind you why it’s necessary to put your socks away, young Bowie is just the pup for you. Story
Fenced Yard Required Fostered in SW Missouri (Springfield area) Meet Trixie! This darling 1.5 year old girl is slowly coming out of her shell and showing her true, sweet personality. For most of her life, Trixie was very sheltered. Then a family obtained her, and they loved her very much. But the busy household, daily activities, and active children were overwhelming for Trixie. Her family reached out to us with the hope that we would be able to find her a home where she could relax, live without fear, and thrive. Trixie is a very sweet and gentle girl that needs confidence building activities and slow, continuous socialization. Guiding her through these stress reducing lessons will be made easier since Trixie is food motivated and will gladly sit for a treat. Leash walking is a work in progress and will take a while as she gets nervous about new sounds and new situations. It takes her some time to trust, but once Trixie gains your trust she will want to stay near you and enjoy all the cuddling and petting you have to offer. She will also seek reassurance from her person when she gets a bit unsure or anxious. This girl is young and playful. She will entertain herself with toys; she will even bring you a shoe or a slipper just in case you need one. She also likes to carry her toys around the house and leave them in various locations. Being young, she still likes to chew on Nylabones so she will need to be supervised or crated when not watched. Still a puppy at heart, she likes to run and play with other dogs and needs to learn proper play manners. She is a little overwhelming for older dogs and gets too wild when playing with young ones. Trixie would be fine with a mild mannered, patient dog, but we also believe she would be fine as an only dog too. What she needs most is a patient family that will take things slowly and guide her through the adjustment period and the learning process. Because Trixie is easily startled, a fenced in yard is required. It will allow her to run around and play safely. This lovely, deserving girl is looking for a calm, understanding forever home where she will be loved and cherished. She will in turn repay you in collie kisses!
