Most people bring home groceries in a Grocery Outlet bag. This puppy somehow arrived at a shelter in one. Yes, really. The Grocery Store Puppies got their market-themed names after being dropped off at a shelter inside a Grocery Outlet bag. Thankfully, their story gets much better from there. DPS scooped them up, and these lucky puppies have been thriving ever since — so much so that four of them, Mollie Stone, Piggly Wiggly, 99 Ranch, and Nob Hill, have already been checked out by their forever families! That leaves just one ridiculously adorable boy still on the shelf: Publix. And trust us — inventory like this doesn't last long. At 4 months old and a petite 7-8 lbs, this Dachshund mix sports a gorgeous light brindle coat that makes him look like a tiny designer dog. His parents' identities may remain one of life's great mysteries, but one thing is certain: he's ridiculously adorable. We expect he'll stay on the small side into adulthood! Aisle One: Food Lover Publix wakes up between 8:00 and 9:00 AM ready to tackle the important business of being a puppy: wrestling matches, zoomies, toy theft, and more wrestling. He's a patient guy in the morning, too — no barking or whining to be let out, he just waits contentedly until you're ready for him. Breakfast is around 9:00 AM, lunch between 1:00 and 2:00 PM, and dinner around 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Publix comes running the instant food appears, because he firmly believes every meal could be the greatest meal of all time. Between meals, he squeezes in plenty of naps, usually sprawled out in an adorable puppy heap all his own, and sleeps soundly through the night in his crate. Publix: The Explorer Publix is confident, curious, and adventurous. He's the first to investigate a new toy, explore a new room, or figure out what's happening on the other side of a gate. He seems convinced that every day should contain at least one exciting discovery. He does have a little watchdog in him — the occasional bark at a startling sound, like a door opening or footsteps outside — but nothing that makes him a nuisance barker. But don't let the explorer résumé fool you — once the day's discoveries are complete, Publix is all in on his people. He's the puppy who wants to share every adventure with his favorite human, then curl up beside them to recharge for the next one. Brave heart, soft center. On walks, he's already a good leash citizen with no pulling, though he's still working on walking with purpose instead of following every interesting smell — the kind of easy, trainable quirk that makes for a fun project with his new family. Housetraining Notes Publix is pee pad trained and does best when his pad has a consistent, designated spot — once he learns where 'his' spot is, he uses it reliably. Going Fast — Grab Him Before He's Gone Publix is playful, social, food-motivated, affectionate, and wonderfully adaptable. He loves people, adores toys, and spends his days alternating between full-speed puppy chaos and heart-melting cuddle sessions. With all four of his siblings already settled into forever homes, Publix is ready to follow in their pawprints and become the last Grocery Store Puppy to find his family.
