This low rider is a happy little guy who greets everyone he meets with a super speed tail wag. Mighty Joe is here to make lasting friendships and gets along well with other pups, but needs to go to a home where the general vibe is slow. This sweet guy was diagnosed with heart worm and needs to keep his heart rate low while he recovers. This darling boy joined us from the Bradshaw Animal Shelter when they reached out seeking placement with a senior focused rescue that could help with his medical needs.

Story
Looks like: Chihuahua mix Female, 5 years old (estimated), 9 pounds Meet Izzy, a sweet and curious girl with a heart full of love! Though she can be a bit shy at first, with patience and time, Izzy quickly becomes a loyal and brave companion. She's the kind of dog who will stand by your side and support you through it all. Izzy's list of favorite things is long and absolutely adorable. She loves burrowing into blankets, cuddling up inside your sweatshirt, and getting chest scratches. She's also a fan of 3-5 mile walks and, above all, food! For a meal, she'll leap with excitement, leaving all her pride behind for the joy of a tasty bite. Izzy would thrive in a solo person and adult-only home where she can feel safe and secure. She's a gentle soul who can get overwhelmed around children, so a calm environment will help her shine. Izzy does well around other friendly dogs and could even do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat. Izzy came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after being found as a stray.

One of the “8 in a Crate,” Dreamy arrived unsure of the world. Today, he’s a blossoming, playful little shadow who is discovering how to be a puppy— one brave step at a time.   His day starts around 8:00 a.m. when foster mom lifts him from his crate and carries him straight outside. With the help of his resident foster dogs, Dreamy has begun going potty outdoors in the morning. When he does, it’s met with big celebrations and treats— something he’s starting to understand is a very good thing. After that, it’s game on with his foster puppy brother. The two wrestle, chase, and tumble through the morning, pausing occasionally for a nibble of kibble before collapsing for nap time.   Dream doesn’t understand the leash yet, so gentle encouragement is needed to guide him into the yard to explore. Within just a few days, he learned to follow the other dogs in and out of the house, watching closely and mimicking what they do. He is learning by example. During the workday, he stays in the kitchen and dining area with the other dogs while foster mom works, happily entertaining himself with toys, his foster brother, and any sticks or leaves they manage to bring in from the yard. Dinner is served around 5:00 p.m., and Dreamy loves his kibble. At bedtime, he knows exactly where to go— into his crate in the bedroom. He insists on being in the room with his pack and then sleeps quietly until morning.   When Dreamy first arrived, he was completely shut down. For two full days, he would not come out of his crate unless no one was watching. He would sneak out to potty and then dart right back in.   And then something shifted.   His young foster brother began patiently drawing him out. Slowly, Dreamy started to watch. Then he started to participate. A few days in, he was rolling around in a dog bed, letting foster brother pounce on him. After that, his transformation sped up. He began initiating play, bouncing around like a proper puppy, grabbing toys, and positioning himself wherever the action was. While still timid with people, he clearly wanted to be near them.   Today, Dreamy will approach new people to sniff them. He offers gentle nose taps and even little kisses. He is still afraid of hands reaching to pet him and prefers affection on his own terms, but he loves being close—watching, observing, and sometimes curling up against legs for a nap if he feels safe. It truly feels like a matter of time before this shy boy grows into the full “puppy package.” Watching him bloom has been a joy.   He plays non-stop with his small, 1-year-old foster brother and is completely devoted to his 15-year-old foster sister. She is his quiet anchor. He follows her in the yard, tries to give her kisses, and is learning from her that outside is the right place to potty. He was cat-tested at the DPS Safehouse and proved curious but respectful. He recently met a pre-teen girl and gently put his paws on her to sniff her face.   Dreamcatcher is very much a playful puppy, balanced with solid nap skills. He will pile onto the couch or into bed with the rest of the pack for rest, but when he’s awake, he’s energetic and engaged. He does not yet understand leash walking and will need patient, trust-based training.   Dreamy loves to chew and needs appropriate outlets for it. And while his sweet, delicate face might suggest pure innocence, there is a mischievous streak hiding behind those eyes. Leave clothes on the floor and he will proudly parade them around the house. He has a surprising vertical leap and considers tables perfectly reasonable climbing platforms. One day, foster mom heard a noise and turned to find him calmly staring at her from the dining room table. He also enjoys chasing and nibbling at moving feet under blankets— perhaps channeling his inner Dachshund.   Dreamcatcher must go to a home with at least one confident, friendly resident dog. He relies heavily on canine leadership to feel safe and to learn appropriate behaviors. A home with rescue experience and patience will set him up for success. He needs adopters who understand that trust is earned gently and consistently.   His transformation so far has been remarkable, and he is only just beginning. Once Dreamy feels safe enough to fully be himself, he is going to be an extraordinary companion— loyal, playful, brave in his own mischievous way, and deeply attached to his people and his pack.February 16, 2026, 5:04 pm

Penny is blossoming into a gentle, affectionate companion who is discovering just how good it feels to be safe, warm, and loved.   Penny thrives on routine and has quickly learned that her kennel is her safe haven. She sleeps peacefully in her kennel each night. She may let out a small whine when first placed inside, but she settles quickly and then rests quietly until morning. On office days, she spends time in a large, cozy kennel set up with all her comforts and can make it through a full workday without going to the bathroom. When her foster works from home, Penny enjoys a balance of kennel time and special desk time — complete with her own little bed placed next to the keyboard so she can quietly “work” alongside her person. She will simply curl up and hang out, content just being near.   Her kennel has been thoughtfully placed in the family room so she always has access to it, even when it’s not closed. She often chooses to go in on her own when she needs reassurance. At the same time, she has grown increasingly confident exploring the house, hopping onto couches, and observing daily life. It’s been beautiful watching her confidence grow while still knowing she can retreat to her safe space whenever she needs to.   Penny is one of the '8 in a Crate,' rescued from a shelter after being abandoned with 7 of her friends in one small crate. When Penny first arrived, she was completely shut down. She trembled when approached and would freeze if placed outside her kennel. She showed no interest in people or the resident dogs and seemed overwhelmed by the world around her. Her foster family adjusted thoughtfully — moving her kennel into the main living space so she could observe from safety, offering different food, creating a smaller pen area outside, and most importantly, giving her time and patience.   Slowly, Penny began to emerge. Today, she spends most of her time outside the kennel and only runs back if she feels unsure. She’s learning what’s acceptable in a home environment. Early on, if she tried something new — like her first jump onto the couch — she would whimper softly and retreat. Now? She confidently hops up while her people are nearby and even asks for attention. She has started greeting her foster parents with full-body wiggles, her tiny frame vibrating with excitement as she works through her nerves to seek affection.   Penny lives with two large dogs and has warmed up to them beautifully. While she’s too petite for rough play, they peacefully sniff and coexist without issue. She has not shown any barking behaviors — in fact, her foster has not heard her bark at all. She does not chew, dig, or exhibit destructive habits.   She is timid by nature and remains very aware of her surroundings, always scanning for potential danger. But the more love she receives, the more she leans into it. She gets cold easily and absolutely adores being tucked under a blanket. Being covered is her happy place. Once wrapped up warm and cozy, she will stay there for hours, clearly feeling secure and content.   Outdoors, she initially froze on leash walks and would not move. With patience, she’s making progress in the backyard, where she now sniffs around and will go to the bathroom when placed in the main yard. While she can hold her potty for long stretches and has not had regular accidents, she may piddle a bit when nervous - a behavior which will undoubtedly improve once her confidence grows.   Penny’s ideal home will be one with patient, experienced adopters who understand how to communicate gently and without intimidation. She will thrive with someone who appreciates the importance of a safe space and is willing to let her build confidence at her own pace. Because she is so small, even a modest living space gives her plenty of room to explore and grow. She will need a resident dog in the home to help her learn, trust, and thrive.   What sets Penny apart is the courage you can see in real time. You can watch her push past her fear to ask for love. You can see her choose connection over retreat. And when she wiggles her whole little body in greeting or burrows under a blanket to feel safe, you realize just how much trust she is offering.   Penny is a tiny dog with a tender heart who is learning that the world doesn’t have to be scary. With continued patience and love, she will reward her person with devotion, sweetness, and the quiet joy of watching a shy soul fully bloom.February 16, 2026, 5:04 pm
