What exactly is a Dachshund-Poodle mix called? A Doxie-poo? A Weenie-poo? A Noodle-Dox? Stovepipe doesn't particularly care what you call him, as long as you're willing to let him sit directly on top of you while you say it. This adorable 3-4 month old, 15-pound puppy came to DPS from a shelter with his brother, Muffler Man. The boys were overwhelmed, frightened, and completely out of their element. Thankfully, DPS stepped in and gave them the chance they deserved.   And while Stovepipe may have arrived scared of the world, he's quickly discovering that being a puppy is actually pretty wonderful.   A Day in the Life of Stovepipe   Stovepipe starts his mornings around 7:00 AM with a trip outside for a potty break. After that, he's ready to greet the day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a healthy appreciation for breakfast.   Meals are still a bit of a work in progress. Stovepipe isn't a huge foodie yet, but he's slowly discovering the finer things in life. So far, watermelon and green beans have earned glowing reviews.   The rest of the day consists of a delightful rotation of naps, toys, puppy adventures, backyard time, and carefully supervising his foster family.   When left home with the resident dogs, Stovepipe happily entertains himself, takes naps, plays, and lets himself outside when nature calls. He's proving to be a remarkably smart little guy.   Dinner is around 5:00 PM, followed by an evening of snuggles and playtime before a final potty break and bedtime around 10:00 PM. And where does he sleep? As close to his people as physically possible.   His foster family originally tried a crate. Stovepipe strongly disagreed with this plan. Now he sleeps in the bed, often on the pillow, pressed up against his humans, perfectly content and sleeping through the night without any potty breaks.   From Terrified Shelter Puppy to Professional Snuggler   When Stovepipe first arrived, he was scared...drooling from anxiety, shut down, and unsure of everything around him. He didn't want people reaching for him or trying to interact. He simply wanted to quietly exist nearby and figure things out at his own pace. Fortunately, his foster family gave him exactly what he needed: time. Within hours, he started following the pack around the house. Within a day, he was trying to climb into laps. Within a few days, he discovered toys. And once he discovered toys, there was no going back. He's made tremendous progress, and like many puppies who've experienced shelter stress, he's still building the confidence to feel settled when his people step out - something the right home can absolutely help him grow through. Today, Stovepipe is embracing puppyhood with enthusiasm and learning that life can be full of fun, affection, and adventure.   Velcro Puppy Level: Extreme   Some dogs like being near their people. Stovepipe would prefer to merge with his people if possible.   He is happiest when he knows exactly where his favorite human is at all times. He'll follow from room to room, settle beside you while you work, nap near your feet, and then move closer if you happen to shift positions. If you're sitting on the couch, Stovepipe would like to be touching you. If you're lying in bed, Stovepipe would like to be touching you. If another dog moves away and creates an opening closer to you, Stovepipe considers that a personal invitation.   Despite all of this, he's actually quite respectful. He doesn't demand constant attention. He simply wants to be nearby.   And when you tell him what a good boy he is? His entire body wags. Sometimes he gets so excited that he starts bouncing up and down in little happy puppy hops.   Toy Collector and Puppy-in-Training   One of the most fun parts of watching Stovepipe blossom has been seeing him discover toys.   At first, he wasn't quite sure what they were. Now he treats the toy box like a treasure chest.   He loves sorting through toys, carrying them around, and deciding which one deserves his attention at any given moment. Every day seems to bring a new favorite.     Life With Other Dogs   Stovepipe absolutely loves being part of a pack.   He was initially shy around the resident dogs, but quickly warmed up and now wants to play whenever someone is willing.   His favorite playmate is the younger dog in the house, and the two spend their days racing through the yard, wrestling, chasing each other, and generally having the time of their lives.   The senior dog, however, occasionally wishes for a little more personal space. Stovepipe hasn't fully grasped this concept yet.   He continues to politely—and repeatedly—check whether she has changed her mind about playing.   Because of how much confidence and joy he gains from other dogs, his foster family would love to see him join a home with another friendly, playful dog who can continue teaching him the ropes.   House Training and Home Manners   Stovepipe has made impressive progress with house training. He quickly learned where to potty and now routinely takes himself outside when he needs to go. He can also hold it overnight with no problems.   Adventure Potential   Because he is still completing his vaccinations, Stovepipe hasn't started leash walks yet. But based on his personality, curiosity, and love of being wherever his people are, his foster family suspects he may grow into an excellent adventure buddy. Whether that's hiking trails, exploring new places, or simply running errands together, Stovepipe seems happiest when he's included.   Stovepipe's Perfect Home   Stovepipe's ideal home would include another playful dog who can continue building his confidence and showing him how wonderful life can be. He would do best with patient adopters who understand that while he's come a long way, he's still gaining confidence and learning about the world. Because he forms strong bonds with his people and thrives on companionship, he would love a family that enjoys including their dog in everyday life. And perhaps most importantly, his future family should be prepared to share their furniture. And probably their pillow.   Why You'll Fall in Love   Watching Stovepipe transform has been nothing short of magical.   The frightened little puppy who arrived from the shelter is slowly being replaced by a happy, playful, affectionate boy discovering all the joys of being loved.   His full-body tail wags.   His little play hops.   His fascination with toys.   His determination to be touching his people at all times.   The way he chooses connection over everything else.   Stovepipe is proof that sometimes all a scared puppy needs is a little patience, a little kindness, and a safe place to land.   Now that he's found his footing, he's ready for the next chapter: a forever family who will cherish the sweet, snuggly, toy-loving puppy he's becoming. July 18, 2026, 7:12 pm

Most people bring home groceries in a Grocery Outlet bag. These puppies somehow arrived at a shelter in one. Yes, really. The Grocery Store Puppies got their market-themed names after being dropped off at a shelter inside a Grocery Outlet bag. Thankfully, their story gets much better from there. DPS scooped them up, and these lucky puppies have been thriving ever since — so much so that three of them, Mollie Stone, Piggly Wiggly, and 99 Ranch, have already been checked out by their forever families! That means just two ridiculously adorable boys are still on the shelf: Publix and Nob Hill. And trust us — inventory like this doesn't last long. At 13-14 weeks old, these Dachshund mixes (maybe some Beagle in there? Pug?) sport gorgeous light brindle coats that make them look like tiny designer dogs. Their parents' identities may remain one of life's great mysteries, but one thing is certain: both boys are ridiculously adorable. Aisle One: Food Lovers The Grocery Puppies wake up between 8:00 and 9:00 AM ready to tackle the important business of being puppies: wrestling matches, zoomies, toy theft, and more wrestling. Maisy  is an incredibly sweet, affectionate dog who is a joy to have around. She loves being part of whatever you're doing and quickly wins people over with her fun, social personality. Energy Level? Medium. Maisy has bursts of playful "mountain goat" energy and enjoys exploring, but she's equally happy relaxing with a sunny spot for a nap. House-trained? Mostly. Maisy does well about going outside to potty but has had some accidents on the rugs , so her foster has found it easiest to keep those picked up while she continues to build good habits. Describe how they are on leash? Maisy walks well on leash and enjoys getting out for walks and adventures. Describe how they are with other dogs? When meeting new dogs, Maisy may bark or lunge initially, but once she has a chance to settle in and become comfortable, she does well and enjoys canine companionship. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?  Yes. Maisy has lived with a cat, whom she happily ignores, and she gets along very well with another dog in her foster home. Commands they know?  Maisy is still learning her basic commands and is currently working on "sit," "off," and "quiet." She's eager to learn with positive reinforcement. What are their favorite things? Attention, affection, affection, affection,  food (especially treats!), walks, and spending time with her people. She also enjoys social outings after she's had a little time to check out her surroundings. What do they need to work on? Maisy is continuing to learn her basic manners and commands. Like many curious dogs, she'll occasionally help herself to shoes or laundry if they're left within reach, so she'll benefit from continued training, puppy proofing, and management. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? Maisy does well when left alone. She is crated for up to four hours at a time, typically no more than a couple of days each week, and handles it well. Where do they sleep? Maisy sleeps comfortably in her crate. What is their ideal home? Maisy is a wonderfully adaptable dog who would fit into many different types of homes. She has done well with dogs and cats, and while she hasn't been around children yet, her sweet, social nature suggests she could do well with a family willing to give her a proper introduction. Whether it's a single person, a couple, or a family, Maisy will thrive with people who enjoy including her in their daily lives and can provide moderate exercise, continued training, and lots of love. She's an easygoing, affectionate companion who forms strong bonds and will make a wonderful addition to a lucky family. Meet Bikini! Bikini (6 lbs) is a 3 month old Chi-weenie pup expected to stay under 15 pounds fully grown. Her small size makes her perfect for everything from neighborhood coffee runs to cross-country adventures — she's even an excellent candidate for a future flying companion. Her littermates have all found their forever families. Now it's Bikini's turn. Sunshine, Flip-Flops & Endless Summer Bikini lives life like she's permanently on summer vacation. If she were a person, she'd already have sunscreen on, a beach towel under one arm, and she'd convince complete strangers to play volleyball within five minutes of arriving. She's never met a backyard she didn't believe needed investigating. Bushes? Must inspect. Flower pots? Probably hiding treasure. That one corner nobody has looked at today? Clearly suspicious. And after exploring absolutely everything, she's the first to announce, 'Well... I've had enough excitement for today,' and trot into her crate for a nap. She has mastered the art of balancing adventure with self-care. Her Lifeguard Deserves a Raise Whoever adopts Bikini gets a huge head start — her foster family has already put in weeks of training. She knows what 'Go Potty' means and races outside like a little professional because a reward is waiting. She's been accident-free thanks to an excellent routine. Crate training is going beautifully too. When she hears 'All Done,' she runs into her crate, settles quietly, and waits for her reward before drifting off. Her crate is covered with a light sheet, and she sleeps soundly through the night. Little Dog. Big Manners. Bikini is eager to learn, understands routines, and loves earning rewards. Despite teething, she hasn't shown any interest in chewing shoes — even when they're left right beside her toys. She's done wonderfully meeting larger dogs and greets new people with a wagging tail and plenty of kisses. After 20-30 minutes of tug-of-war and toy-dragging, expect complete system shutdown: you'll find her asleep in the tiniest bed imaginable, folded up like a fuzzy pool towel left out in the sun. Who Will Love Her? A family with another playful dog would be wonderful — she loves canine companionship. A first-time owner would also be a great match since so much early training is already done. She's small enough to travel easily, adventurous enough for weekend outings, and affectionate enough to become a professional couch snuggler after a busy day. Cannonball Into Forever Summer doesn't last forever. Neither do puppies. The only thing missing from Bikini's perfect summer? A family to call her own. Meet Enzo - our big dog in a spunky 40 lb package! We'll start with his current nicknames: Mr. Spunk, Lil Man, and Mr. Adorbs. Tipping the scales at 40 lbs (small by PACC standards) Enzo is young (coming up on 1 yr), affectionate, and very curious about the world (seriously—nothing escapes his investigative sniffer). Enzo loves being close to his people and is happiest when sharing cuddles, soaking up attention, or heading out on a new adventure. Enzo is smart, eager to please, and follows human guidance well. He loves to rough and tumble with big dogs so if you have any of those, he'd be a built-in-exerciser. Enzo is treat-motivated, thus responds well to the yummies. He is a social butterfly who gets along with most dogs (can be a little too much for our small/soft/shy types) and can absolutely keep up with the big dogs during playtime. Running, wrestling, zoomies, exploring—if it sounds fun, count Enzo in. He plays hard, naps well, and appreciates cuddles in between. With the perfect mix of energy, intelligence, and affection, Enzo would thrive in an active home excited for a loyal companion and adventure buddy, with a built-in cuteness factor. His classic head-tilt at new sounds is priceless and will fill up your phone quick! Enzo's stats so you have them handy: ~1 yr old, 40 lb, neutered male, healthy, microchipped and up to date on vax. Likely some big dog, small dog type of blend (we're still mulling over the $80 DNA test decision). Children in the home should be 10+ because little humans take time, dogs take time and few families these days have time and energy for both. While he has not been introduced to cats and looks at them fondly from afar, to be respectful of everyone's time we recommend a feline free home.
