A SWEET LITTLE FELLOW: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 15 lbs. Hi there, I'm Amos! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and I'm very happy to be here getting the good care and love I deserve. I got to spend a few days in a temporary foster home and had a lot of fun there! Shortly after my rescue, the nice folks at MM discovered that I needed FHO surgery on my left hip—likely from previously being hit by a car, so they had that surgery done for me. I'm at about 85-90% usage of my leg and ready to finish my recovery in my new home! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I'd like to be your only dog. / Cats unknown, though I do have a strong prey drive. / I haven't met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm a cute little shortie with adorable brown splotches all over me and a curious, sweet personality. I come with lots of tail wags, sweetness, and a lovely personality. In my temp. foster home, I really showed my true colors and was described as a perfect gentleman, a good sidekick, and a snuggle bug. I do have a prey drive when I'm out exploring the yard or on a walk, so I'll likely keep critters out of our yard. / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, and ‘place’ commands so far and I also accept friendly strangers without jumping on them and I use proper door etiquette. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let's continue my training together. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts and were also good in my temp. foster home. / My potty manners have been very good at Mostly Mutts as well as in my temp. foster home. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love snuggling, being petted, eating tasty doggie treats, and learning new things—as you can tell from the list of commands I already know. I'm a smart guy who enjoys using my brain and continuing to learn. I also enjoy being outside with my family, whether we're going for walks, or just spending time together. / Other than other dogs, I can't think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise-once I'm at 100%, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I'm at about 85-90% usage of my left rear leg and I expect it will only improve in my new home with proper care! I'm not quite ready for hikes, running or jumping yet as I continue to recover. Gentle slower walks are best for now. MM will go over my care with you. I'm a smart and wonderful little dog looking for a wonderful family for life! How precious is this tiny nugget? Zara is such a wonderful little wiener dog with a curious way of seeing the world. Her previous owners loved her but did not have the means to care for her when she suffered an IVDD back injury and was simultaneously discovered to be heartworm positive. Once she came into DREAM, we took Zara in right away to see our specialist, who performed surgery on the ruptured disc. Since then, she's begun her HW treatment and has undergone acupuncture and cold-laser therapy to help wake her central nervous system back up. It took almost 12 weeks, but we finally have her up and walking...most of the time. She is still wobbly, however this does not impede her quality of life. And if she tires herself out, Zara is perfectly content to get around in a set of wheels. Her mobility challenges certainly don't slow her down from playing with the other dogs in the house. Because of her physical limitations, Zara does need someone who can understand her bodily limits when it comes to holding her urine and stool. This is very easy to learn, very clean and the great thing is when kept on a schedule, she is house-trained and can go most anywhere. She does require someone to check her bladder and make sure it is empty after she finishes. This muscle is still regaining its strength after her injury. Zara is a friendly little muppet who loves her people and has the gumption to thrive no matter the circumstances. It's impossible to be around her without smiling and wanting to snuggle her. She is very much a lap-girl. If you are sitting down, she wants to be right next to you. Her goal in life is to be carried around 24 / 7 / 365. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this girl is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. If you are interested in adopting Zara, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Zara's adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Zara will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
