Story
A FUN COMPANION:  Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 21 lbs. Hi, my name’s Cherish!  I came to Mostly Mutts with another doggie friend from animal control who has already been adopted and now it’s my turn!  I am grateful for the love and attention I am receiving in my wonderful foster home, and I look forward to finding my very own family soon!  I was adopted for a month, but, though they loved me dearly, it just wasn’t a good fit, so I’m back with my foster ready to find my perfect match - perhaps that’s you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I came to Mostly Mutts with another dog and we got along fine.  When I was with Mostly Mutts previously, I was a little reactive to some dogs I met.  In my adoptive home, I wasn’t reactive to the dogs I met with the family, and in my foster home, I lived temporarily with a puppy and really enjoyed that, so perhaps it will depend on the dog.  If you have a dog at home already, let’s meet along with a trainer and see how we do together. / My former adoptive family reported that I was good with the family cats.  All cats are different though, so I’m not sure how I would do with another cat. / I haven’t met kids yet, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over.       • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a sweet girl who has already won the hearts of my foster family, and I’d love to win yours, too!  They say I’m a “wonderful dog” with short bursts of playful energy, though my true calling seems to be keeping an eye on my surroundings - I like to stay alert and see what’s going on beyond the fence or out the window (it’s my self-appointed job, lol!).  I’m affectionate, but I also stay busy with my little patrol duties, so my cuddle sessions tend to be on the shorter side.  In my previous home, I showed I’m quite the athlete - I could climb and jump their fence to chase after small critters as I do have a high prey drive.  I’ll need a secure set-up to keep me safe while I do my important “watching” work. / My energy level is 4-6, and sometimes a little higher.      • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I don’t know any commands yet, but I am treat-motivated, and – if I am as serious about training as I am about overseeing my foster home – I think you can teach me some great doggie commands.  I currently zig-zag a bit on my leash as I’m new to it.  Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s do some training together. / I’ve had excellent crate manners in my foster home and did well in my former adoptive home as well, however I have shown that I don’t need one, so my foster doesn’t use one with me anymore.  I enjoy cuddling up in my foster’s bed with her some nights and others I sleep in a doggie bed nearby.  / My fosters say my potty manners are good and I learned how to use a doggie door in their home.  My former adoptive family also reported that I had good potty manners.   • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like hanging out watching the world go by – in fact, if there is a window, I want to be looking out of it.  Exploring my foster’s backyard is really fun too, but I must have a high fence and please stay with me to make sure I don’t try to climb or jump it!  Being on the back of the couch snuggled in a comfy blanket is my idea of the perfect perch.  I like my walks and will wag my tail for a treat along the way.  I also like toys and Nylabones and I’ll self-entertain with them.  / I can’t think of any dislikes, however, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  I am looking for a great home where I will be a ‘cherished’ family member (do you see what I did there?).  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  May 20, 2026, 10:30 am

Story
12/30/25 I'm so sad no one has asked about me. I'm really a good boy. I don't know why I'm not good with men. When Act2Pups rescued me from an outside cage during the winter I guess it was a man that left me outside. I listen well and I do what I'm told. I'm a pleaser for sure and I would just love to please Y.O.U. I've been here before...yes three years ago I was adopted and I thoroughly enjoyed my person. Unfortunately she fell and broke her hip and couldn't take care of me any more. I'm not terribly sad, but I do miss having a person of my own. I prefer females, apparently men have not been nice to me in the past. If you know my breed you know I'm pretty strong headed. I get along with all my housemates, both girls and boys. I like to take walks, I walk pretty well on a leash. I love meal time, so be careful I don't get too large! I'm ready for that forever home....calling all dachshund lovers!

Story
How precious is this tiny nugget? Zara is such a wonderful little wiener dog with a curious way of seeing the world. Her previous owners loved her but did not have the means to care for her when she suffered an IVDD back injury and was simultaneously discovered to be heartworm positive. Once she came into DREAM, we took Zara in right away to see our specialist, who performed surgery on the ruptured disc. Since then, she's begun her HW treatment and has undergone acupuncture and cold-laser therapy to help wake her central nervous system back up. We definitely see signs of progress, but they are very slow. However this does not impede her quality of life. While the surgery and therapy have helped her greatly, Zara currently does not have the ability to walk but that doesn’t stop her from getting around and playing with the other dogs in the house. To help her get around, Zara can scoot on her own or use her cart. Honestly, she much prefers to scoot. Because of her physical limitations, Zara does need to be expressed to help her go to the bathroom-both #1 and #2. This is very easy to learn, very clean and the great thing is when kept on a schedule of expressing, she’s house-trained and can go most anywhere. She's a friendly little muppet who loves her people and has the gumption to thrive no matter the circumstances. It's impossible to be around her without smiling and wanting to snuggle her. Zara is very much a lap-girl. If you are sitting down, she wants to be right next to you. Her goal in life is to be carried around 24 / 7 / 365. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this girl is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. One of the original board members wrote this extremely helpful book about day to day life with a "down dog".... Honey Have You Squeezed the Dachshund. If you are interested in adopting Zara, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Zara's adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Zara will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
Boscoe has a number of talents and his foster mom calls him a smart Houdini. He quickly figured out how to open pocket doors to get into another room. He will push doors open if they are not latched.m as he prefers to stay within sight of his person. He is an all star snuggler and we are sure he will pass the snuggles certification exam with flying colors. 😉 Boscoe had been training using pads and is now about 85% house trained especially when his cues are picked up and he’s let outside for a potty break. He definitely needs a secure fenced yard as he likes to explore and looks for ways to let himself out for a solo adventures. He's not shown any signs of being a digger but he has shown tendencies to be a door darter. Boscoe is very athletic and can jump up quite high. Walking is his jam and he’s a perfect gentleman on a leash. He really loves being around people and can have some separation anxiety but is getting better. He's good with dogs and people but much prefers his people over another dog. Boscoe does NOT like to be crated and will chew the metal on the crate as his anxiety escalates being in there. He usually has something to say and lets his voice be heard if he isn’t feeling secure. His foster mom says he has settled in and she thinks he had a hard time adjusting to a new environment because he wasn’t around many different people and situations before coming to DREAM. If you are interested in adopting Boscoe, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Boscoe's adoption fee is $700. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Story
Meet Lizzy, a beautiful 5 yr old chi-weenie looking for her forever home. This little girl is a perfect angel. She is very good with people (even kids), other dogs of all sizes, and she mildly barks at the neighborhood cat on the other side of the fence (probably best it stay there, as we suspect she would give chase if it were in her yard). Confident in her own skin yet super affectionate at the same time. Her foster family adores her and says she is one of the nicest they've ever hosted. She is house trained and does very well hanging out in the house when they are gone. She is not so much a fan of the crate in the past, but doesn't really seem to need one. She is a good eater at meal times and truly enjoys hanging out with her family or lounging in the fenced backyard. She also likes a good game of chasing the balls thrown for her in the yard, but the returning part...well, its your classic dachshund personality...sometimes she makes it back - and sometimes not. 😂 We are seeking a home with a fenced yard for Lizzy as she definitely enjoys hanging out there A LOT. She will stalk the squirrels and run them up a tree. Truth be told, she has managed to sneak her way out of said fence just a couple of times, but only to explore what's on the other side...so a secure fence is a must. If there is any gap, she will find it. If you are interested in adopting Lizzy, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application.
