Story
Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. If you think you might be interested in adopting Sheldon, please take the time to fill out an application. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in adopting, then please go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Click on Adoption Application. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Story
Earle the Pearl: A Tale of Resilience and Joy Earle the Pearl is a delightful 20-pound bundle of energy, with a heart as big as his personality. At just two years old, Earle's journey began in November 2025 when he was found abandoned, tied to a fence outside a vet's office. Despite this rough start, Earle hasn't let it dampen his spirit. Personality and Activities Earle is the epitome of a “happy-go-lucky” pup. He loves to dive headfirst into activities, whether it's wrestling with his shepherd foster brother or snuggling on the sofa with his pittie foster sisters. Earle thrives on companionship and prefers to be in the midst of the action. Crate Training and Mischief While Earle isn't fond of being crated, it’s a necessary measure for his safety when his foster family is out. He can manage about four hours before he starts plotting his escape, accompanied by a serenade of canine tunes. When not crated, Earle is a curious explorer—checking out table tops, counters, and even attempting online shopping! Play and Exercise Earle is happiest with a playmate, whether it’s a fellow dog or an active family member. He enjoys exploring the fenced backyard and romping in the snow, especially when decked out in a cozy sweater. With his love for running and exceptional vertical leap, Earle needs space to expend his energy. Sleeping and House Training Earle sleeps comfortably in a crate in the bedroom at night, though he dreams of snuggling under the covers with humans and other dogs. He’s made significant progress with house training, but supervision is key due to his small bladder. His initial challenges were compounded by hookworms, but he's on the mend. Ideal Home Earle would flourish in a home with a yard and an active family. Older children and/or a canine sibling would be ideal companions for this lively pup. While his breed mix remains a mystery, his Dachshund-like physique and unique stature make him a distinctive member of any family. If you're ready to welcome a dog who’s “all in” with love and enthusiasm, Earle the Pearl might be your perfect match. Complete an application today to meet this extraordinary dog! www.k9ei.dog

Story
Clay is a puppy born around 11/19 who is ready to find his forever home! His breed is a bit of a mystery, but he does have short legs like a Dachshund. He has a beautifully soft red coat and an adorable, impossible to resist face. His mom weighs only 13 lbs, and based on his current growth, Clay will likely stay on the smaller-medium side as an adult. Clay is a wonderful medium-to-chill energy puppy. He enjoys playtime, but does not need constant activity. In fact, one of his favorite things to do is sit on the couch and watch TV. He also loves curling up in a lap for a cozy nap and is content just being nearby. He is also respectful of adult dogs’ spaces! He is doing great with puppy pads and sleeps through the night in a puppy pen with his siblings. Because he has been raised with his brothers, his response to crate training is still unknown, but he already understands downtime and has even chosen to put himself to sleep in a crate. Clay would be a great fit for a home looking for a relaxed, affectionate companion who enjoys both quiet moments and  play, and he is ready to bring plenty of puppy charm to his forever family!   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
