Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Penelope is a sweet Dachshund puppy who was relinquished from a breeder due to her special needs. She was born a double dapple b bc and is deaf with limited vision. Even though she’s considered disabled, she doesn’t seem to know the difference! Penelope loves to play with other dogs, snuggle with her people and just be the happy puppy she is! Penelope will thrive with another social dog to help her around- she just loves her foster siblings so much! If you’re looking for a couch buddy, tug of war player, soft little puppy- Penelope is for you!

Curious and loves other dogs (would do great as a second dog). High energy level (5/5) due to his young age. Shares food and treats with other dogs without fighting (especially loves treats). 📜 Rescue Story Found wandering dangerously along a roadside with a metal chain still attached to him and was rescued to safety. 🐶 Social Skills With Adults: Friendly to everyone regardless of age or gender; loves being petted. With Kids: (Not yet tested – can be assessed if needed) With Dogs: Very social; approaches first to give playful signals. With Cats: No aggression; friendly and shows positive interest. 🏡 Living Habits Potty Training: Likely lived chained outdoors before, but does not show excessive marking. Prefers to go near or on pee pads; may mark over spots where other dogs have marked. Toys: Not particularly toy-focused, but enjoys small plush toys and playing with items like towels or light T-shirt material. Separation/Barking: May whine or bark a little when left in a separate space, but calms down quickly. Walks: Slight leash pulling but walks well overall. Handling: Enjoys being touched even by strangers. Escape Risk: Afraid to step outside the door, but caution is still advised. Goes up stairs well but is careful going down. Car Rides: Has little experience, so needs to be lifted into the car, but gets out easily. In a travel kennel, may scratch to get out at first but settles quickly. 🌟 Adoption Notes Hershey is an active, social, and happy boy. He would thrive in a home with another friendly dog or with a family who can give him plenty of walks and activities. With his affectionate nature toward both people and animals, he will quickly bond with his forever family.
