Story
Meet Tum Tum, a 13-year-old long-haired Miniature Dachshund weighing in at a very portable 10 pounds. He may be blind and somewhat hearing impaired, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this little guy is ready to sit on the sidelines. Tum Tum has places to go, stairs to conquer, beds to locate, and stroller rides to enjoy! When Tum Tum first arrived in his foster home, he bumped into things as he figured out his new surroundings. But it didn’t take him long to learn the layout and confidently make his way around the house, even finding his favorite beds all on his own. And stairs? Apparently those are no problem for this tiny guy. His foster mom says his favorite activities include eating, climbing stairs, and going for stroller rides, which honestly sounds like a pretty excellent retirement plan. Tum Tum is friendly, outgoing, happy, and surprisingly adaptable. He loves meeting other dogs and even tries to play with them, so having another friendly dog around would be a big plus. He’s also enjoys car rides, likes hanging out around the house, and is perfectly content with some time in the yard or a brief walk - but stroller rides are definitely more his speed. Tum Tum is house-trained, although he may occasionally have an accident if he isn't taken outside on schedule. He sleeps comfortably gated in a room rather than in a crate. What Tum Tum really needs is a patient family who understands that his world looks and sounds a little different and is willing to give him the consistency he needs to feel secure. In return, they’ll get a sweet, social little senior who has proven that being blind doesn’t stop him from living life on his own terms. Tum Tum isn’t looking for a complicated retirement. He just wants good food, cozy beds, a canine friend, and someone willing to take him on a stroller ride now and then. At 13 years old, he’s earned every bit of that. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
