Story
We think Milo looks like he is straight out of the Disney (yet to be made) film "Honey I Magnified the Dog"! Milo is a 4 month old GIANT version of a dachshund. He has everything a good dachshund is made of -- short legs, long body, perfect tan points and hilarious personality. The only "not-so-dachshund" thing about Milo is his SIZE! This guy is only 5 months old and already over 12 lbs!  Milo is everything that is wonderful about a puppy with some bonus points! He is fun, playful and so so very silly. He is doing really well with his house training (also proof that he might not be purebred) and working on his crate training. Milo can be a bit on the barky side when he gets left by his people so if you live in an apartment -- you might want to make sure your neighbors are either okay and understanding while he settles in -- or deaf! He is walking pretty well on a leash and loves to go for walks (he still battles puppy car sickness from time to time so he will need a little patience whiel he adjusts to car rides). Milo has yet to meet a stranger (though we readily admit we have not yet introduced him to cats yet) and loves every human and every dog he meets along the way. From pet store to nursing home - this boy has been such a great ambassador as he has traveled around town with his foster family. Milo pretty much is a fabulous all-around puppy that would make a wonderful addition to just about any home with a puppy sized hole in their home. An ideal home for Milo will have another playful pup that can keep up with his need for speed -- and patience for puppyhood because Milo is still learning the basics. Milo is current on vaccines and microchipped. He will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract as he is still too young to neuter. A home within a 3 hour radius of Greensboro NC is preferred and adopters MUST travel to NC to adopt as we do not allow transports. ##2018793##

Story
Sassy18 pounds7 years oldFostered in Smithfield, NC   Short version: Sweet, timid, great with dogs, needs another dog of any age, good in a home with kids over 8 and fine visiting younger ones, crate trained, feline friendly We’ve come to realize that Sassy’s name is likely ironic – she’s the opposite of Sassy! This gal is sweet as pie, timid, anxious and definitely the submissive gal in a foster home of bossy dachshunds. But not to disappoint – she’s got that stubborn streak of a spoiled rotten dachshund. Her old owner fed her people food and she put up a hunger strike that only a dachshund can muster in protest. But we’ve got her eating dog food, although she does prefer to have her people nearby during this activity. Sassy loves her person. And wants to be nearby as much as possible. But she likes to be next to you not attached as humanly possible like some dachshunds that have no sense of personal space. Her favorite spot in on the top of the couch above the shoulder of a person – nearby but not on top of. And at night, she happily sleeps on a bed on the floor near her foster mom. Sassy gets along with kids and really enjoys the children in her foster home – probably preferring them to adults. But because she is nervous, loud noises scare her and send her into another room. Because of this, we are looking for a home with kids over 8, but she would do great with visiting little ones, such as grandkids. Sassy is housetrained when kept on a schedule. And she does great on a leash – loves to go for walks. She does great in a crate – takes a minute to settle and then does fine. This sweetie gets along great with other dogs and actually gains confidence from them. We are looking for a home where she has a dog friend. She also does fine with the cat in her foster home. Sassy is UTD, spayed, had a dental, heartworm negative and microchipped. She’s got some seasonal allergies right now (who doesn’t???) but some benedryl solves the problem. Her new family will need to drive to Smithfield (outside of Raleigh) to adopt – no transports. We prefer to adopt to families within 3 to 4 hours of Central NC. To get the adoption process started, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application. Sassy has blossomed so much since she arrived in our arms. And we know that with the love of her forever family that she will come out of her shell even more in the next few months.   ##2012197##
