Bear (brown) 11 years old 14 poundsOscar (black) 11 years old 21 poundsFostered in Jacksonville, NCShort version: housetrained, sweet, needs single family home, gets along with other dogs, no cats/chickens/bunnies, loves to snuggleOscar and Bear are two sweet boys, and they absolutely know it. While they are truly a ying and yang duo, they are undeniably each other's favorite companions. They were abandoned in a boarding facility who thankfully reached out to us for help. These boys are bonded and will only be adopted together. These bonded boys are happy to explore the yard, play with toys, and even enjoy meals separately, but when bedtime rolls around, they want nothing more than to be together. Their friendship is one of the many things that makes them so special.Oscar is the social butterfly of the pair. He loves climbing onto the couch to cuddle with his humans and is always ready for attention. When it's time for pets, Oscar will happily roll from side to side to make sure not a single spot is missed. He especially loves toys that crinkle and crunch. And he missed is career as a high jumper and loves to scale gates in a single bound - so his new family will need to stack gates to keep him contained. Bear is the more laid-back half of the duo. He's perfectly content relaxing at your feet on his favorite heating pad while keeping a watchful eye on Oscar's antics. His favorite form of affection is gentle chin scratches, and he's happy to sit back and enjoy the love. They both enjoy soaking up the sunshine during short afternoon naps and taking their time sniffing every blade of grass in the yard. Both dogs get along great with other dogs, both big and small. They could also be a ready made family as the only dogs. However, both (especially Oscar) have a strong prey drive so no cats, bunnies, chickens or other small animals.Bear is completely house-trained. Oscar may need a little supervision during his first few days in a new home due to occasional marking, but once settled, he does an excellent job waiting to do his business outside. Because they bark some when their people leave, they will need a single family home, no apartments or condos. At the end of the day, Oscar and Bear are looking for a home filled with soft beds, plenty of pets, and lots of love. These gentle boys have so much affection to give and are ready to spend their days together with a family lucky enough to call them their own. Both are neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm negative, and had a recent dental with extractions. Both of their senior blood panels looked great. Bear had an IVDD injury in the past and recovered, but has a slight wobble so his new family will need to use ramps and carry him on stairs. Their new family will need to drive to Jacksonville, NC to adopt them - no transports. We prefer families in NC, VA, SC, northern GA, eastern TN, DC area and WV. To get the process started fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application  ##2734660##

Story
If Sassy isn't a fit for you, please share so we can find her people! Sassy Dachshund Mix 7 years old 11 pounds Fostered in Raleigh TLDR: Blind, housetrained, does good on a leash, playful, good with dogs, could be only dog, needs a cat free home, needs someone home more than not, needs single family home, kids over 8 years old 1. She's been through a lot — and she came out shining Sassy was surrendered when her owner went into assisted living and ended up in a shelter, which is incredibly stressful for a blind dog. She didn't crumble. She adapted. She's now coming out of her shell more every single day, and that kind of resilience deserves a real home. 2. She’s a fearless little navigator Sassy may be blind, but you’d hardly know it. She gets around like a pro, mapping out her world with confidence (and only the occasional polite “boop” into furniture). It’s honestly impressive to watch. 3. Built-in best friend energy This girl bonds. Sassy will happily follow you from room to room like your devoted little shadow and is a champion cuddler—she loves falling asleep while touching her person. Personal space? Never heard of it. But because she loves so deeply, she needs someone home more than not. 4. Needs to be only dog or with super chill older dog Sassy would do best as an only dog because she barks at some dogs and gets anxious, especially in new settings. She goes to doggy daycare and does just fine with those dogs, but didn't do well at a recent meet and greet. If you have a super chill senior dog, should would be fine. But otherwise, she would do best as the spoiled rotten only dog.  5. She's playful and loves her toys Sassy is a playful girl who loves toys of all kinds — and her all-time favorite? An empty plastic bottle. Free, humble, and apparently perfect. She's been coming out of her shell more and more since coming into foster care, and her silly, fun side is absolutely worth sticking around for. Check out videos in the comments! 6. Her stress response is... um, enthusiastic??? When Sassy feels anxious, she copes by vigorously humping her bed. We're not here to kink-shame. It's her emotional support ritual, her cardio, and honestly her most committed hobby. With love, stability, and patience, this behavior is expected to improve — but until then, fair warning: her bed has seen things. She's working on it. Aren't we all. 7. She loves walks and adventures — and she's a dream on a leash Don't let the blindness fool you — Sassy is ready to hit the trail. She does great on a leash and genuinely enjoys getting out and exploring the world, sniffing every inch of it. She's the perfect adventure buddy for anyone who wants a small dog with big-dog energy on walks. 8. She's vocal at first — but she settles Sassy can be a barker, especially when she hears unfamiliar noises or feels uncertain. It's her way of communicating. The good news is she does settle down once she feels safe and comfortable. Because of this, she needs a single-family home where you don't have to worry about noise complaints during the transition. 9.She's fully housetrained No accidents, no drama. Sassy is fully housetrained and knows the drill. One less thing to worry about. Sassy is UTD, spayed, HW negative, had a dental cleaning and microchipped. Her new family will need to travel to NC to adopt - no transports. We prefer families in NC, VA, or SC. To get the process started, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application Sassy isn’t perfect—and that’s exactly what makes her special. She’s quirky, loving, a little stubborn, and completely unforgettable. The right home won’t just adopt her—they’ll celebrate her. ------------------- And if you are looking to adopt, but Sissy isn't a fit, we recommend filling out a general application to get approved. We only post a small portion of our dogs publicly and adopt most directly to approved adopters ##2693941##

Story
Callie (Chiweenie) is 7 years old and 14 poundsDollie is 7 years old and 11 pounds Fostered in Oak Island Adoption fee is $350 total for both Short list: Working on housetraining, loves to go on walks, super sweet, velcro dogs, loves to snuggle, cat friendly, gets along with small dogs, cratetrained, needs quiet home without alot of visitors, no kids under 12   Two are better than one! And that's the case with Dollie and Callie. These girls are the perfect blend of sweet and sassy. We are looking for a quiet home without a lot of visitors for these sweet ladies. They are a bonded pair and will only be adopted together.  Dolly is as sweet as they come and absolutely loves belly rubs. She enjoys long walks, exploring the beach and the neighborhood, and taking in all the sights and smells along the way. After a fun day of adventures, Dolly is happiest curled up in your lap for some quiet snuggle time. Callie also loves her walks, but her favorite place is right by your side. She’s a gentle, affectionate companion who enjoys staying close and is perfectly content simply being near you while you go about your daily routine. Like Dolly, Callie loves to snuggle and relax after a busy day. Callie loves her people, but is the self appointed security guard of her home. And she would be employee of the year at any security company - she does her job with gusto. She will bark and nip at the pants legs  of those who come into her home. She has made progress with training, but needs a home without a lot of visitors. She does well if you put her up when new people come over as well.  However, once Callie gets to know someone, she accepts them and trusts them, so they are allowed in the home without dramatics. To help their new family get started on the right foot and work on introductions with new people to the home, we will pay for a few sessions with a trainer in their new home.  Both girls are wonderfully calm around the cat in the home. And unlike most dachshunds, they actually come when they are called. They’re working hard on their house training and making progress, but their new home should expect accidents. They do well with their foster mom's working schedule and would be fine in a family that works outside the home. They get along with small dogs and would do great as only dogs or with small dog friends. They are great on a leash and not reactive at all to people or other dogs.  Dollie and Callie both do very well in their crates and even like to keep the doors open so they can pop in and out throughout the day. At bedtime, they settle in easily, sleep soundly through the night, and wake up ready for another happy day together. Dollie and Callie are spayed, UTD on shots, heartworm negative and had dentals. Dolly has luxating patellas and she was born with very bowlegged back legs. We had them radiographed and the vet said it was not surgical. They do not cause her any pain or get in her way of being an active dachshund.  Their new family will need to drive to Oak Island, NC to adopt. We prefer families in NC, VA, SC, eastern TN, MD, northern GA and WV. To get the adoption process started, fil out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application.  If you’re looking for two loyal little shadows to share your days and your couch, Dollie and Callie may be the perfect match. These bonded girls have so much love to give and are ready to find a calm, patient home where they can continue to thrive together. In return, they’ll reward you with endless snuggles, companionship, and devotion. ##2688963##

Story
Milo (Male) 13 (ish) years old 14 pounds Fostered in Clayton, NC Short list: Independent, crate trained, good with working family, no kids under 12, gets along with other dogs, senior dachshund housetrained on a good schedule, sweet 99% of time, will bite when uncomfortable Most of the time, Milo is laid back and content with chilling. However, when he is not in the mood or doesn’t trust someone, then he will bite. He gives clear signs that he’s not comfortable so he will need a family who is willing to be patient and read his signs. He can get frequent ear infections and ear pain tends to be a trigger with him, but they come on quickly so his family will need to be diligent on keeping an eye on his ears. Milo does great with other calm dogs and is currently living with four other senior dachshunds. He gets along good with cats as well. He values his independence and is a relatively easy houseguest. His favorite hobby? Expert-level blanket burrowing. Milo can disappear so completely under a cozy throw that you’ll forget he’s there — until dinner time, of course. He’ll happily greet you at the door when you come home (he always knows), then it’s right back to his bed to tunnel in and resume his beauty sleep until the next important event… like dinner. He allows short cuddle sessions but prefers to keep things on his terms — a distinguished gentleman with boundaries. Because he has bitten and will bite again, no kids under 18. While his vision and hearing aren’t what they used to be, he can still detect loud voices and see some shadows. And he absolutely knows when someone walks through that door — if one human is home and the other arrives, Milo will get up to greet the newcomer without fail. Milo rides well in the car without issues. He’s crate trained and does a great job letting you know when he needs to go out by walking to the front or back door. Just don’t keep him waiting too long — otherwise, one of the rugs near the door might become his backup plan. Milo occasionally plays with his very favorite toy (Lambchop) and takes his role as Kitchen Assistant very seriously. Cooking? He’s there. Crumbs on the floor? Handled. Meal service running behind schedule? You will hear about it. He’s adorably vocal when it comes to food and makes sure everyone knows dinner should always be on time. Milo is UTD on shots, neutered, had a dental with extractions, microchipped, heartworm negative and had senior bloodwork (all looks good). He has a grade 3 heart murmur that does not need medication at this time and just needs to be monitored. Milo has had skin issues in his past so his new family will need to keep him on a good quality food and be prepared to manage any skin issues that arise. Milo is fostered in Clayton, NC and his new family will need to drive to the foster home to adopt. We prefer homes in NC, VA, SC. To get the process started to adopt, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application This handsome dude is just looking for a warm, quiet and patient home that serves dinner on time. Milo is not for everyone; in fact, he’s not for most people. But if you are experienced with behavior cases, OK with getting bit if you fail to read his cures and wanting to give a sweet senior dude a retirement home, Milo could be a great fit. ##2738771##
