Story
Dottie and Dogger may be seniors, but don’t tell them that — these two still have plenty of life, love, and tail wags left to give! This adorable bonded pair of dachshunds came to us after their owner sadly had to move into a nursing home, and while their world changed overnight, they’ve stayed right by each other’s side through it all. Because of their close bond, we are hoping to find them a forever home together. These sweet little pups are as cuddly as can be and would happily spend their days curled up beside you on the couch or trotting along on a walk. Despite their age, they still enjoy getting out and about and walk absolutely fantastic on a leash. Dottie and Dogger are looking for a quiet, loving home where they can settle in together and be spoiled the way every senior dog deserves. If you’ve been searching for double the love in one tiny package, these two are ready to steal your heart.

Story
Sassy is a 4-year-3-month-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix weighing 11 pounds. Sassy has been surrendered twice. She is very nervous and fearful with people and situations she is unsure of. A lot of work will need to be done to earn her trust. Once she trusts you you'll see a happy, cuddly girl who likes to be by your side and give kisses. Sassy needs another dog in the home who is confident and can teach her to trust. She is great with other dogs, quick to tell them if they are to much for her. Sassy loves to go for walks, loves belly rubs (once you've earned her trust), loves her toys and chasing them. She's used to being on the furniture, because she'll be stuck to you like velcro! She's happy to be carried around like a queen (if not she is under your feet). Sassy does not like children (they are to loud and fast for her). If you've read this far we hope you have the heart and patience to be the right fit for Sassy. Multiple visits to the shelter will be required before she can leave so she can establish trust with her adopter. She is housebroken and crate trained. Fearful of load noises and car rides. Good watch dog.Her adoption fee is $150, this includes her spay, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention, and microchipped. Her dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $20.75. Please visit the shelter to meet her, we show dogs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1pm-4:30pm, and the 2nd and 4th Saturday 1pm-3:30pm. Once you have visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same-day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.Come and meet your new best friend today! The Humane Society of Sandusky County is open Monday -Friday 1pm - 5pm and Saturdays from 1pm - 4pm. Also, be sure to check us out on FaceBook!

Story
Meet Scarlett!! Scarlett is a cranky senior, 11 years old, who has not had a great life! She originally came from the Lorain County Kennel as a stray. She had a skin infection from fleas, double ear infections and basically no hair on her back. Fast forward after some TLC all her hair has grown in, and her ears have been treated. She is spayed and completely vaccinated. We had an x-rays done to see if she had any back issues that would explain her fear of being picked up, but the Doctor said she just had some age-related arthritis. Scarlett is 32 Lbs. (should weigh about 28#). Scarlett is house-trained, crate-trained, and is a well-behaved house dog. Scarlett is looking for the right person to love her how she is and understand that she is looking for a roommate who will just let her live out the rest of her golden years. Scarlett is NOT a lap dog, and she will not tolerate being picked up. We think something in her past has made her very reactive to being picked up. She is a bossy Terrier mix, at first, but once she trusts you, she will seek pets on her terms. Scarlett is looking for someone that just wants a house dog to watch TV with and just hang out. She needs a fenced in yard so she can have the freedom to wonder around. She does well with other dogs and will even engage play, once she is comfortable with them. She has been conditioned to wear a muzzle when grooming or vetting was required. She tolerates the muzzle, once she trusts you. She has never bitten anyone but will try to snap if you try to pick her up. She is very food and treat motivated so she will respond to going into her crate for a treat and does not mind traveling in a crate, in the car. Scarlett just needs an experienced owner with no kids because kids would want to pick her up. If you are interested in Scarlett, please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure Scarlett would be a good match for you. Adoption fee/donation is $50.00 If you have specific questions, please email the adoption coordinator at info@loveastraydog.com If you can't foster or adopt, please consider donating to help us with medical expenses and ongoing care. You can mail your donation to: Love-A-Stray, P.O. Box 125, Attn: Scarlett, Avon Lake, OH 44012 or visit www.loveastraydog.com for credit card/PayPal information, adoption application, available dogs and upcoming events. Thank you!
