Story
Mouse is currently staying with a member of staff and her three dogs. She has learned to walk on a leash, appears to be house trained, and sleeps in her crate at night (after a few minutes of wining). Mouse is very submissive with humans initially, but loves affection and wags her curly little tails for everyone who says "hello". She makes herself at home very easily and is not afraid to find a space for herself on the couch. She doesn't seem to want to play with the big dogs, but she loves to roll in the grass and nap in the sun. She does get excitable and jumpy, but for the most part she's a relatively calm dog. Car rides are still pretty scary, but she comes to the shelter each day and is getting a lot of practice being a passenger.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Gunner just turned 9 at the end of April. I am looking to re home him as he is no longer okay with being left at home while I go to work and I’m not able to do any proper training to help him with this as it requires not leaving him at all which I can’t do due to being a single person household who has to work. I have done all I can to work with him on this, but I think he would do best in a home where people are around more with no other pets or young children. He is dog reactive so I do not take him places where other dogs or little children are. Other than that though he’s a perfect dog at home. Fully potty trained and loves to snuggle. He is also ramp trained. He is your typical weiner dog who lives for food and loves to get pets from the humans.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Little Pepe arrived with 4 other dogs of various sizes and ages after they lost their owner, so then they lost their home. Being swept into the shelter at 15 was not what little Pepe or his owner expected, but he`s making the best of it while waiting for a new home where he can once again be with a dog friend or more and have a human to look out for his interests. He`s lightly hearing and vision impaired but they work well enough for this little guy who may be a little slow but he`s still very mobile. He`s very low-fuss, we don`t think he`s used to being coddled a lot, he doesn`t ask to be held but doesn`t mind being picked up either. Would you like to give the honor of his being part of a human and dog family once again? Shelter life is stressful for our oldest fur friends. Can you help him land softly and give him a cozy spot where he can induldge his curiousity once again? He`s advocated for by his friends at Classic Canines, a senior dog advocacy helping senior dogs bridge from the shelter to cozy homes.

Story
Sweet Samantha is looking for a home where she can receive some TLC. Are you ready to open your doors for her? Samantha came to APA! after being found in an abandoned home. Now she is chilling in an APA! foster home. She's shy and not quite ready to trust people yet, but with patience and time she should turn the corner. She has a gentle, playful nature. She loves to play with her fosters' dogs and we think she could benefit from a home with another dog that can show her people aren't scary and can be trusted. Samantha loves her stuffed animals and snuggling with them. She seems to be beginning to want to cuddle, excited and jumping up on the bed where her foster was cuddling the other pups. She's a smart girl who does well when her fosters are away from home, either settling down under a bed or playing with her dog buddies. She is house-trained and will use puppy pads if left alone too long. Her fosters would like to take her for walks but she's not crazy about a leash yet. That's one area of improvement for her new family! Samantha will love a home with a doggie playmate and parents who can continue helping her learn that humans can actually be very lovable. She is a smart pup with a timid but sweet nature. With a supportive, patient family, she'll become their very fun companion!

These pups are in Lockhart, Texas too!

Story
AY Chihuahua! Can you believe how lucky you are to have found me? My name is Pocket and I am a 4-year-old, 17-pound male Chihuahua mix. I came to Paws in Prison on Valentine’s Day and was a little ruff looking since I was attacked on the streets of Lockhart. People say it was ‘coons or mean dogs, but I don’t want to think about that anymore! Now that my bumps, scabs and emotional wounds are healing, I am becoming the happy go lucky dog I was meant to be. I have made a lot of new friends and really like playing with the other dogs and learning all of my basic obedience skills, getting potty trained and crate trained. If you are ready for a sweet boy who wants to snuggle up to you, fill out an application real soon! A handsome small fella like me will go fast and I’ll be ready to go home with you by mid-April. There's just one tiny catch! Now we know I'm afraid of men until I get to know them, and it might take me a couple of weeks. The lovely couple who adopted me returned me to the prison pretty quickly because they felt so badly about me being afraid of the husband. So if your family is willing to give me some time to get comfortable with your men, I'm your guy! Please pick me! To apply for Pocket and fill out an application, please visit pawsinprisontx.org to read our adoption procedures and guidelines.   ##1645144##

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Ahoy Mates, my name is Sailor and I am a 12 pound, 8 month old female Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. I think I look like a mix between a bat and the Phantom of the Opera. I mean look at my ears all perked up and waiting for you to call out my name. And that half face mask over my left eye, the Phantom only wishes he looks as cool as this!!! So now that you know how cool I am in the looks department, let me tell you my story. In my short life I have already been rescued, foster failed and then surrendered to a different rescue and all of that before the nice ladies from Paws in Prison saved me. My heart is heavy with rejection, but the lady who tried to adopt me had something happen in her life and just couldn’t continue with the responsibility of a sweet dog like me. This is where you come in, that’s right YOU. You get to adopt me as soon as I graduate from Paws in Prison. You get to take advantage of all the amazing training that I will receive during my stay in Lockhart. That’s right, I’ll know basic obedience skills, and be house trained, crate trained, microchipped, vaccinated, heart worm negative and spayed. You hit the jackpot with this cute little Sailor girl. All you have to do is open your heart to this story  of rejection to make me your forever fur baby!  Just go to pawsinprisontx.org to read our adoption procedures and guidelines and fill out an application. ***Sailor won’t be ready to go home with you until late June or early July, but you can make a deposit now to  hold her until she’s ready. Just fill out an application ASAP and we will contact you.*** ##1724021##

Story
Hi I'm Bella! I'm a 12 pound, 2 year old female chihuahua/dachshund mix. I've got a huge personality and a lot of brains packed into this cute little body. It was really scary being lost and alone on the streets of Lockhart. So I was glad when the nice officer took me to that shelter and they gave me food & water. Then I got really lucky because I was only there for a few days when the nice ladies from Paws in Prison came and got me. That's right, I'm in prison and boy is it fun! They're teaching me all kinds of great stuff so that I can be the perfect dog for YOU! I sure would like to cuddle & play with you. Please pick me! ***Bella won't be through with her training program and ready to leave until mid to late July. But you can preadopt her by paying a deposit and we will keep her until she's ready to go home with you. Please go to pawsinprisontx.org and fill out and application and we'll contact you!*** ##1734358##
