Story
Nascar is a 2-year-old, 12-pound pup with a name as fast as her spirit is strong. Don’t let her tiny frame fool you—this little girl is a fighter who’s already overcome more than most dogs ever face. She came to us severely emaciated, covered in ticks, and struggling with painful eye conditions. Thanks to our incredible medical team, Nascar is now tick-free, gaining weight steadily, and receiving treatment for dry eye and a healing corneal ulcer. She’s eating like a champ and showing us every day just how resilient she is. Emotionally, Nascar is still on a journey. She’s severely under-socialized and very fearful, especially of leashes and new people. Right now, she shows defensive behaviors when scared (growling, snapping, trying to flee), but there’s hope. She’s incredibly food-motivated and has already made progress—she’s now taking treats gently from our hands. She also finds comfort in other dogs so we think a home with another dog to show her that humans and the world isn’t such a scary place will really benefit her! We know Nascar's future won’t be the easiest—but it could be incredibly rewarding. With patience, structure, and lots of love (and snacks!), we believe this little fighter has the potential to thrive.

Story
This is Beans! He just turned 6 years old. He is a labrador retriever/dachshund mix and I adopted him here in Austin when he was a puppy. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. He is about 25 pounds. He loves to play and cuddle. He is great with people and other dogs, however, he is not great with small children. He has also never been around cats before. He is house trained. I can provide a collar, leash, food, food bowl and vet records. We are located in central east Austin.

Story
She was previously rehomed due to leash reactivity (pulling and barking at other dogs while on walks). We’ve been working together on these behaviors, and I’m happy to report she’s been an absolute easy keeper. With consistent training and guidance, she’s made great progress. She would make an excellent family pet for a household looking for a loyal, trainable companion. Her people-loving personality and willingness to learn make her a joy to have around.

Story
Meet the sweetest little survivor Gemma❤️‍🩹 Gemma is a purebred piebald miniature dachshund. We do not know what happened before she landed in a rural Texas shelter, but we know she sustained some terrible treatment at the hands of humans. She was found severely emaciated, with pressure wounds on her hips, tail, and flanks consistent with confinement in a small kennel. Every bone in her body was visible, and she was close to starving to death. We can’t know what happened to her, but we do know that none of this trauma has dampened her love for humans or her eagerness to receive affection and praise. Gemma craves time next to her humans, and enjoys sleeping curled up in your arms or on your lap. We are estimating Gemma to be approximately 3 years old. Gemma has coexisted in her foster home with both dogs and cats. She has a high prey drive, as most dachshunds do, so very small mammals might not be the best fit for her. Gemma does wonderful with older children, and has even slept in the same bed as young kittens. She would spend all day outside chasing squirrels if she had the chance. Gemma would do best in a home familiar with the breed, as she displays all the traits you find with this breed. Please fill out an application if you would like to meet Gemma. https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/OANR/Dog

Story
This cutie pie is Pumpkin and he is about 4 months old! He is full of personality and definitely the ringleader of this crew. He is outgoing, brave, and silly just to name a few traits! Pumpkin was the first puppy to learn how to climb pet stairs in order to get in the couch. After playtime which includes zoomies chasing his siblings Pumpkin is ready to cuddle and snooze! Pumpkin's foster has been working on safely socializing them since they aren't yet fully vaccinated. So the pups love going our for car ride, shopping in their pet stroller, or being carried in their stylish travel bag! Doing this has helped expose them safely to new people and new environments! They have one round of vaccines left and pretty soon he can go for walks outside like a big boy!
