Story
Meet Benito ❤️ Male DOB: April 10, 2022 Weight: 45 pounds Breed: Australian Shepherd / Dalmatian Mix Neutered (Fixed) Vaccinated Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Benito has been waiting… and waiting… and still, his heart stays just as full of love. For the past two years, he’s been with the rescue, watching other dogs find their homes while he patiently hopes his turn will come. He doesn’t understand why he’s still here—but he never stops being the happy, loving dog he’s always been. Personality Benito is a joyful, affectionate dog who truly loves people. He has a happy, easygoing spirit and brings warmth wherever he goes. He enjoys being around others, soaking up attention, and simply being part of a family. He’s the kind of dog who greets you with happiness, stays close, and makes you feel like you matter. His love is genuine, steady, and always there. Breed Info As an Australian Shepherd / Dalmatian mix, Benito carries traits of: Intelligence and awareness A loyal, people-focused nature A balanced mix of energy and companionship This mix creates a dog who is engaged, loving, and adaptable, happy to be active but also content just being with his people. Ideal Home Benito would do best in a home where he is finally given the love and stability he has been waiting for. He will thrive with a family who includes him in daily life and gives him the attention he deserves. Owner Responsibilities Benito will need regular exercise, routine, and continued care. Like all dogs, he requires structure, guidance, and a lifelong commitment. Things to Consider He has been waiting longer than most. Please consider opening your home to a dog who truly deserves a chance. Sometimes the ones who wait the longest are the ones who love the hardest. The 3-3-3 Rule 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience and love, Benito will finally get the life he’s been waiting for. Veterinary Care Benito is fully vetted, but we always recommend bringing him to your own veterinarian after adoption to continue his care. Important Note Benito is an indoor family dog. He is not to be chained or left outside. Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Mother and son transferred from Helping Hands in Texas. They were found living outdoors in severely malnourished condition alongside other puppies that had unfortunately already passed away. Both were rescued from the streets and brought to a Texas rescue, where they received veterinary care, were spayed/neutered, and brought up to date on vaccinations prior to transport. From the foster: Meet Mama Gracie — the most grateful little Velcro dog you’ll ever meet. If love could be measured, Gracie would have an endless supply to give. We don’t know much about Gracie’s life before rescue, but it’s easy to believe she’s never truly known what it feels like to be someone’s beloved companion. Because of that, every toy, every soft bed, every kind word, and every moment of affection is something she treasures with her whole heart. Watching her discover the simple joys of being a dog has been nothing short of incredible. One of Gracie’s favorite discoveries has been toys. She loves everything from stuffed animals to chew toys and bones. Treats, however, are still a bit of a mystery to her. Rather than eating them right away, she’ll carefully hide them around the house to save for later—a sweet reminder that she once had to believe every meal might be her last. Gracie is still building confidence and is learning that the world isn’t as scary as it once seemed. New sounds and unfamiliar experiences can make her a little uncertain, but she grows braver every single day. She enjoys the company of other dogs and would do well with a confident canine companion, but her greatest love will always be her people. Wherever you go, she’ll be right behind you. If she could somehow become your shadow—or better yet, part of your skin—she would happily do it. At just one year old, Gracie has so much life and love ahead of her, and you’ll get to skip many of the challenging puppy stages. She is fully house trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. While she’s still learning how to let you know she needs to go outside, she understands that pottying belongs outdoors and patiently waits until she’s taken out. She walks beautifully on a leash with only an occasional excited pull, which she responds to with gentle correction. Gracie is also crate trained and settles in nicely, although she doesn’t require a crate. She’s proven to be trustworthy when left home alone for up to seven hours, choosing to nap peacefully instead of getting into mischief. Gracie already knows sit, down, and paw, and she’s making wonderful progress with stay. Like any dog who loves her people, she sometimes struggles because she’d simply rather be following you from room to room. She’s also learning not to greet people with her gentle “hugs”—her way of saying she’s just so happy to see you. She shares toys beautifully with both people and other dogs. Food and treats are a different story. Having spent part of her life surviving on the streets, she’s still learning that there will always be enough. She isn’t aggressive—she simply worries another dog might take what she has before she’ll get more. With patient guidance and reassurance, she’s improving every single day and responds wonderfully to redirection. Gracie’s perfect home is one filled with patience, kindness, and unconditional love. She doesn’t need perfection—she simply needs someone willing to continue showing her that she’s safe, cherished, and finally home. In return, she’ll give you a love that’s unwavering, genuine, and impossible to put into words. She is the perfect blend of playful, silly, adventurous, and calm. She’ll make you laugh with her goofy moments, melt your heart with her cuddles, and remind you every day just how incredible the bond between a rescued dog and their person can be. If you’re looking for a best friend who will love you with her whole heart—and don’t mind giving up a little personal space—Mama Gracie is more than ready to fill that role. She’s spent her life waiting for someone to choose her. Maybe that someone is you. 🐾❤️ www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
