Story
FOREVER HOME NEEDED ❤️ Louie is a ~1.5-year-old, 35 lb Dalmatian mix who is looking for his perfect forever home. He came to us as a stray from California. We do not know his history, but when he arrived, he was completely shut down, terrified of people, and underweight. He will require a special forever home that is quiet and calm and can provide the environment he needs to decompress, gain confidence and trust, and slowly come out of his shell. He is very fearful of men and will need a female-only home, though he could do fine over time with male friends or family coming to visit. He has made great improvements in his foster homes and is slowly opening up and learning to trust!
Louie spent all of his time in a crate when he first came to us, outside of bathroom breaks, as he was absolutely terrified to leave his “safe space.” In his foster home, he has begun to venture out and explore the room, cautiously but curiously following his foster parent around. His favorite spot is cuddled up on the couch. He is curious and interested; he just needs time. He will take treats from your hand and is starting to relax and enjoy being pet. When he feels really comfortable, he might even come up to cuddle on the bed and play with his toys!
He is still working on feeling comfortable on leash and would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can roam and go to the bathroom while he continues building confidence for walks.
He has also started to play with toys (which he loves!) and is learning how to be a puppy when he feels safe and secure. While first in our care, we had Louie with many dogs, and he was largely disinterested because he was so scared. He currently lives with two dogs in his foster home and has done well. He has started to show signs of wanting to play and engage with the other dogs in the home, which is huge progress for him! He would likely benefit from having a calm, confident, but sometimes playful dog in the home to help him feel comfortable and show him how to “dog.” However, he would not do well at this time with a hyper or pushy dog.
We have seen great improvements in Louie during his time in foster care, and we are confident that with a continued environment that is calm, loving, and willing to let him progress at his own pace, he will thrive. He is a very sweet boy and will make an amazing dog for the right home! He has shown in his foster home that he does want to be around his person once he learns to trust them, and he will likely bond deeply with his forever family.
Louie would do best in a freestanding home in a quieter neighborhood. He would not do well living in a busy city environment. No young kids due to his fearful and skittish nature, but he absolutely loves the teenage girl in his foster home! ❤️
Louie is neutered, UTD on shots, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $500.
