No means no. Unfortunately it also was the reason Zuma was surrendered. She scratched the male dog in the house after he tried to mount her. Zuma told us boys drool and toys rule. This girl might be a senior in years but she has puppy playful energy. Give her a toy bin and she is satisfied for the day. Zuma deserves a second shot in a safe home where she doesn’t have to fend off unwanted boys. Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog. Story
Chandler loves, LOVES chasing balls and chewing ropes. He is very vocal, whining and barking when he wants attention or needs to go outside/wants to go run the yard. He was kenneled at the shelter for months before coming to rescue, so he is reluctant to crate at his foster home for long periods of time but is sleeping overnight in a crate for practice. He is an anxious chewer and blanket sucker when inside/crated. He prefers to sleep on a dog bed, couch or the floor. Chandler is being trained with boundaries (baby gates) and does not push open doors or push past people. He knows sit and is easy to walk on a leash. He barks at people and things at a distance but does not show aggression. He is tall and at 2 years old, will not get any taller - which is fine since he is above the breed standard of a Doberman and fitting in the category of a Warlock or King size bred Doberman. He is continuing to gain weight/muscle and last weighed 78 lbs. He could be a 95 lb-110 lb dog. >> He will need a family accepting of his initial anxiety - he barks at new things and people (which is unnerving since he's huge) but will give kisses by the 2nd date or meeting, give 48 hours in a new home before he understands. He is working on house training and socializing. He functions with a puppy brain but is very trainable and eager to please. He will jump on people, he will pull at objects in someone's hand. Chandler Goose will require breed experience to adjust to a new home successfully. !!! He has been slowly introduced to other dogs and thriving in group play. He does well with other big dogs males and females; he wants to play and smell, following the lead of other dogs. He would like dog friends and a yard to play. Due to his size and limited social skills, He should not be exercised at a dog park. He was poorly socialized and was not used to strangers and never had dog friends. He was significantly underweight at 54 lbs and barked at strangers. The shelter staff knew the best way to find the 'right' family for their 'Silly Goose' would be through Rescue. Chandler Goose weighed in at 70 lbs during his rescue intake and was still noticeably underweight with poor muscle tone.

Story
Luna was found wandering in Font Bend County (south of Houston) in a rural area with just a few homes. She was skinny and small, guessed to be aged between 18 months and 2 years old. A family found her and cared for her while looking for rescue connections to help her find a good family. Luna needed deworming, heartworm treatment and to be spayed - her ribs and hip bones were showing so probiotics and supplements were added to her diet. Luna remained active at her foster home, she warms up quickly to strangers and only barks when she wants to play. Crate trained, house trained and naps on pillows - Luna has grown taller and put on muscle - 46 lbs at her last vet appointment. Luna Lynn is now microchipped, spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm treated and on prevention. Story
Ethan is a Charming dude, no doubt Cute and easy to Love. Ethan is a 4 year old, cropped/docked Doberman who is vocal and has separation anxiety. He would do best in a home familiar with the breed but also with another dog for companionship. Ethan is not a confident dog, so he follows the play and activities of other dogs. He gets along with dominant males, gentle with small dogs and respectful of female dogs. Ethan barks and sings loudly until he feels secure. He does not like being confined to a crate or kennel so he will siren bark until released. He has unrestricted yard time at his foster home and enjoys being outside with his dog friends, he will lounge on deck and sunbath instead of chasing squirrels. He does settle when close to a human, will walk in a heel and curl up and sleep in the same room of a person. He is enthusiastic about making friends and being petted, he jumps up to give hugs and would like to be held. Ethan does not bark at strangers, zero protective instincts. He has been crate trained, his foster home routine includes sleeping in a large crate with dog bed overnight - which he has adapted to. He barks constantly during car rides if kenneled. Ethen is microchipped, neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm neglective and on prevention. Just shy of 2 years-old an all natural red Doberman with a cautious side, he enjoys being part of a pack and playing hard. He pancakes in new situations outside of his foster home, Joey stays quiet -no growling, no barking- and stares at new things and people. When he warms up, he is bossy and vocal, barking for attention. Joey can be too rough with smaller dogs and too assertive for male dogs. He loves being outside, sniffing and running. Crate trained. Seeking a family to continue to socialize this Texas boy. Now neutered, Up to Date on Vaccines, Microchipped, Testing Negative for Heartworms and on Preventions. His current weight is 65 lbs, he is all and lean.
