Story
Maximus came into the shelter as a stray on 1/25/24. We had high hopes of reuniting him with his family because he came in wearing a collar and had a microchip, but unfortunately he has not yet been reclaimed. He has a distinctive scar all along his back that has long since healed. No telling what happened to him to get it, but it adds to his rugged good looks. Maximus has the manners of a gentleman. He’s a great leash walker and already knows how to sit on command for a treat. He takes treats gently from your hand too. He can be aloof, but he’s always a good boy. He’s just very independent and self-sufficient. He takes his entertainment into his own paws! He’s not one to sit by your side and be pet for long. He enjoys squeaky toys a lot though! He has an average energy level.

Story
Rooster is available for in-state adoption or adoption and transport to another state. This handsome boy was found as a stray running out in the country. He is approximately 7 months old and weighs 45 pounds. He will probably weigh in the 60-pound range when fully grown. We are not sure of his breed mixture but think he may have some lab and Doberman in him. Rooster has a great personality and disposition. He loves all of the other rescue dogs, big and small. He loves people and will lie at your feet whenever he can. He loves water and the garden fountain is his favorite spot to hang out and keep cool. Rooster is a very sweet and goofy puppy. He is pretty much house-trained and runs to go outside with his buddies. He will need some leash training and would probably do better with a harness. We have no idea of how he is with cats. Rooster loves to run and play with his dog friends and toys. He may not be suitable for a home with small children because he may knock them over when running and playing. Rooster needs a fully fenced-in and secure yard. He will be a great dog for hiking or going to the dog park. He is an active boy and will run around the yard with a toy in his mouth playing tag with his buddies. He likes to be the leader and have everyone chase him. Rooster would do well either as an only dog or with other dogs. Rooster is neutered, fully vaccinated, (DAPP, Bordatella, rabies, canine influenza), and microchipped. He is receiving monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Roosters' out-of-state adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport by a reputable and trusted transport company, and he can be transported almost anywhere within the continental United States. Rooster is with our friends at Shaggy Dog Rescue and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please email kathy@houstonshaggydogrescue.org if you are interested in adopting this good boy. Story
Draco is a purebred European Doberman. 5 years old. 118 lbs. Neutered and house broken. He has no obedience training. He is very active and needs a lot of attention and stimulation. He is extremely smart but needs overall training. He does tend to jump on people out of excitement so it's my opinion that he's not suitable for a home with small children or elderly unless he gets proper training. He is beautiful, sweet and has a great temperament, unfortunately my work schedule and hours seem to be getting longer and my son now spends half the year over seas. He is not getting the attention or activity he needs anymore. Doberman's are velcro dogs and thrive with tons of affection and constant direction, structure, and activity. His new family needs to be absolutely sure they are able to provide this so that he may be his happiest and live up to his full potential. He really is awesome.
