Story
Hello! My name is Taz. Im a very excited boy and I love to play! I would love a nice yard where I could run around with a big family that could always play with me- if not.. just one person is okay too! I know all the basic tricks and Im house trained! I can get along with other animals and people- just need gentle introductions of course! I get a little scared when Im alone sometimes but I think thats normal. I love my kennel so it makes me feel safe. I hope you think about taking me into your home. I would love to be a loyal part of your family.

Story
Sam is a hero and we wish we could keep her but we have four rescues already. She found me driving to work 9/11/23, her and another younger puppy were in the road, Linwood Ave., Shreveport, LA, and she was jumping on the stopped cars! I have never seen a stray act like that. I stopped and got out of my car to keep them from getting run over and I saw the smaller puppy had a collar and it was embedded in her skin. I scooped them up and took them to my vet. Sam is perfectly healthy and 8-months old we think, we got her shots including rabies and dewormed her to be safe. We also started her on Simparica trio for heartworms, fleas and ticks etc. I can't help but think she was trying to get help for her friend. She is great with our other dogs, loves belly rubs, and is generally just a sweetheart. We have advertised locally to try to find owners to no avail. We have tried all the no kill shelters and gotten no response. This sweet girl deserves a chance, please be her hero!

Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. YouTube video link: https://youtu.be/eLeVGtzb-D4   FOR ADOPTION!   Note:  Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. (For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org)   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Bali (female) Intake date:   8/12/2023 Pug mix 3 years old 13.4 chunky pounds Adoption fee:  $200, which includes vetting, microchip Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  yes Vetting and other:  altered (spayed/neutered), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, dental performed, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped Health issues:  none found Temperament:  SWEET!  SOCIAL!  FRIENDLY!  Her entire body wiggles when she’s happy or excited!  Energy level:  medium Groom needs:  low Biography:  Look at this cutie pie!  She has such a tiny head and pudgy body, she kind of looks like a tick.  LOL.  She's so sweet.  We were contacted by the owner's daughter that her mother has several dogs that need placement.  We are slammed and have more coming in but we agreed to take Bali and we are networking the others in hopes other rescues can step up to help.  Bali is a social butterfly!  She came into the rescue like she’d been there for years!   She acclimated quicker than most dogs.  She does ok in a kennel but doesn’t particularly care for it.  She walks ok on a leash but she will walk you more than you walk her.  She could stand to lose a pound or so to keep her healthy.  We will be bringing her out to the Winnie’s Way 5K Fun Run on Saturday 8/19/2023 if you want to come out and meet her!  You can find the Winnie’s Way 5K Fun Run on Facebook (Stoner Boat Launch in Shreveport starting at 8am).   **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.   *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *PREDATORS:    IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times!  PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER!  For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR.  Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive.   TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!     *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.    *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.    *KENNELING:  We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog.  This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your knew addition.   *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.   *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption. CONTACT:  Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet... OR still have questions AFTER reading this profile, message us via our Facebook page.   Please indicate the name when communicating with us. www.RoadtoRescueLA.org   “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings. Story
Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. WOW!  22.10 POUNDS - should likely be about 12 pounds. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 8/21/2023:  Portly Penelope - female - approx 6-8 years old - 22.10 !! very obese pounds - Papillon/Chihuahua mix Reason for intake:   Portly Penelope came to us from the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter.  They reached out to local rescue groups to see if they could get help for this little girl and even though she looks ok, she is not.  She was reactive and scared at the shelter so we drove to meet her and realized she was just scared and we took her with us.  She is EXTREMELY OBESE; she has thick matting around her feet, encasing her curled and very long nails; and thick matting around her rear end making it difficult for her to defecate.  We will have our vet do blood work to make sure there is no medical reason for her obesity and if not, she's GOING ON A DIET!  She should likely weigh about 12 pounds, NOT 22 pounds!  Feeding dogs table food or overfeeding them of any kind of food is NOT healthy and just like humans, they end up with obesity-related issues such as diabetes, heart issues, etc.  Dogs can't tell you "hey I'm fat... I shouldn't be eating that..."  You are their caretakers... just like you would take care of a child.  They will do things that aren't good for them... like overeat.  If you have an obese pet, talk to your vet first to make sure there are no medical reasons for your dog's obesity.  If there isn't, then stop overfeeding and start restricting their intake, take them for walks to help with the weight loss.  If you LOVE your pet, don't overfeed them.   Love them not with food;  love them with your touch... your kiss... or brush them... or play-time or a walk (when it's not so hot!).  We will have more information soon or Portly Penelope.  Stay tuned! NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS:  Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed.  Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining.   In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason.  We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption.  In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered.  Please note…  we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption.  Please wait until the dog is available for adoption.  We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page or you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings. (For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org)   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Matisse (female) Intake date:  9/5/2023   Yorkie mix Approx DOB 2/5/2023 6.2 pounds at intake Adoption fee:  $250, which includes vetting, microchip Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  unknown – we do not have cats to be able to test Vetting and other:  altered (spayed/neutered), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, rear left dewclaw removed (it was dangling and attached only by skin), DEMODEX MANGE (read below – treated with Bravecto – due again 12/7/2023), on monthly heartworm prevention, microchipped Health issues:  Demodex mange (commonly known as red mange) is a non-contagious mange wherein the mite lives within the hair follicle of the host.  Dogs get this type of mange from their mother.  If left untreated, it will cause hair loss, severe itching and scratching which then leads to inflammation of the skin and secondary infections.  Ultimately, it can lead to death due to the secondary infections.  Once treated; however, the mites will go dormant.  Stress such as change in environment, a new pet, a new household member, a surgery, etc., could (but not necessarily) cause the mite to come out of dormancy.  Signs that the mite has come out of dormancy would be hair loss, especially around the eyes or paws.  Some people believe that you can treat demodex mange with motor oil (not true).  Up until recently, demodex mange was treated with Ivermectin and some vets may still use this method.  However, new developments have come about with an even better and more effective way to manage demodex mange.  Bravecto, a three-month flea preventive, is how this pet was treated.  Keeping your pet on Bravecto or any preventive that contains milbemycin oxime will keep the mite at bay.   Please don’t let demodex mange discourage you from considering this sweetheart for adoption.  Do your research and contact your veterinarian if you have further questions about adopting a pet with demodex mange. Temperament:  very sweet, social and friendly Energy level:  medium Groom needs:  medium Biography:  We were contacted by someone who knew of a little Yorkie in need of help.  She was able to get the owner to sign her over and we took her in.  She was missing quite a bit of hair and our vet did a skin scrape to find out she has demodex mange (read above for management).  She was told that she nervously urinates.  The house did have a lot going on... including small children, and we haven’t noticed her doing that at our rescue.  She did in the beginning but she doesn’t any longer.  She is all puppy… playful and fun and gets along with everyone and all the dogs!  She’s an amazing little girl that will make any adopter a wonderful companion!    PUPPIES! Keep in mind, puppies teeth just like human babies and have little sharp toenails.  They will also have behaviors that require training.  Puppies will chew, bite, nip, bark, destroy, dig, scratch, poop, pee, etc.  They will test your patience over and over!   The puppy phase lasts about 18 months (sometimes longer), so be sure you ARE READY for the commitment!      COMMITMENT:   Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer).  Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy!  In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come.
