Story
Come visit me at Petsmart - Adoption fee $450 - Cadence is a compact bundle of joy with a personality as big as her adorable, stocky frame. This short and sturdy staffy mix sports a charming white-and-brown coat that gives her the look of a tiny cow—equal parts cute and unforgettable. Her signature move? A wildly enthusiastic tail wag that can turn into a full-on whip once she gets going, a true sign of just how happy she is.This cheerful girl loves to play, especially when squeaky toys are involved. That’s when her silly, spirited side really shines—though she can get a little grabby and mouthy in the excitement, just part of her playful charm. Cadence is learning to channel that energy in positive ways and would thrive with guidance and consistency. While she’s full of love, Cadence can be a bit unsure when meeting new people, so she’ll need slow, gentle introductions to help her feel safe and confident. Once she warms up, her sweet nature takes over and she becomes a loyal, affectionate companion.Cadence would do best in a home with older children who can respect her boundaries and play style. A cat-free home is a must for her. When it comes to other dogs, she can come on a bit strong at first and may feel uncertain, so a proper meet-and-greet is essential to ensure a good match with any potential dog siblings. At her core, Cadence is a big sweetheart with a playful spirit and a loving heart. She’s ready to find a home where she can truly relax, be understood, and maybe even claim a cozy spot on your couch—and in your heart.

Story
Come visit me at PAW - Adoption fee $450 - Bentley is a one-of-a-kind terrier mix with a look you won’t forget—tiny legs, a big head, and a personality that’s somehow even bigger. Don’t let his quirky proportions fool you, though. Bentley is convinced he can keep up with anything you throw his way—and he usually proves himself right. Whether it’s a long walk, a scenic hike, or a fun day at the beach, he’s always ready to go.This medium-to-high energy guy thrives on being part of the action. He loves having a job to do, even if that job is just being your enthusiastic sidekick. Bentley is incredibly smart and already knows all his basic cues, plus a charming “roll over” that he’s very proud of. He’s eager to learn and genuinely enjoys working with his people, making him a great candidate for continued training.Bentley does have a bit of a possessive streak when it comes to food and treats, so he’ll need a family committed to helping him build better habits in that area. The good news? He’s bright, motivated, and ready to put in the work alongside you.In the right home, Bentley will truly shine. He could live with respectful children and even cats, but he’d prefer to be the only dog—after all, he’s meant to be the star of the show. With the right balance of structure, activity, and love, Bentley is ready to be an incredibly loyal and entertaining companion.

Story
Come visit me at PAW - Adoption fee $450 - Meet Nova! Nova is a senior gal but she is a firm believer in age is just a number, it`s all about how you feel. Due to Nova`s energy level she is definitely young at heart. Nova is looking for someone who will take her on walks where she can let her nose guide her, and allow her to hog the bed at night. Nova is a unique, head-strong, and at times stubborn gal. She will need just the right home for her larger than life personality and quirks. Nova will require a home without any animals or young children. She has shown possessiveness over food and treats while in the shelter, and in her previous home. She will need a family to be willing to work on her with those behaviours. Nova is quite intelligent, and does wonderfully on a leash, and knows all of her basic cues. She doesn`t like to toot her own horn but she is also a pro at ``roll over``. She has been known to go on walks by herself around the neighbourhood so it would be best if she can allow her nose to sniff around her own backyard, safely. If you have breed knowledge on beagles, are willing to put in some work with Nova, and allow her to be her goofy self please come to the shelter to speak with an adoption counsellor!

Story
Vinny is a sweet, high energy boy that we adopted at 5 weeks old. He was separated from his mother and abandoned. We love him so much but he’s very unsure of, our now, busy toddler and we are worried about them sharing space in our small home. We have a cat and a dog that he gets along with but he’s known them since he was born so I think he would be best in a home without other pets or small children. He needs space to run, even at 6 years old he has a lot of energy. He loves to be close to us and is super cuddly. He has the potential to be such a great companion for someone.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sandy and her siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August. We post our available dogs in states across the East Coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes of finding perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs — families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and, hopefully, take home their new best friend. Sandy is a Belgian Mal / German Shepherd Mix and it is important to understand that she is a high energy, intelligent girl so be sure you have the lifestyle that she needs to give her and you the best life possible together... note she is also a love bug and all round sweet, gentle girl - not the maligator people assume when they hear the name Belgian Mal. Health & Background ✅ Spayed ✅ Rabies and core vaccines up to date ✅ On monthly flea/tick preventatives ✅ Microchipped ⚖️ Weight: 65 lbs ish Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 SANDY is back at the rescue (16 April 2026) in Dover-Foxcroft Maine, I brought her back so I could get her out and about and hopefully more exposure in helping her forever family find her. She is doing great with the seniors and other teenagers, Cruz, Snowball and Lucy. She is very affectionate, responsive, loves people, will bark if she see's someone walking past but will come in when called. Very easy to train she is a people pleaser who wants to go on adventures and make lots of memories. After a devastating fire at the rescue on 20 January, SANDY went to a foster family in southern Maine on 24th January. This is what her foster family has said about her: Terra (aka Sandy) has been fostering with us for two months. She is such a loving soul and one of the sweetest pups you'll ever meet. Terra loves running and playing and taking walks with our dog, Apollo. Apollo was slow to accept her, but now that he has such a fun time playing with her in the yard, he has seemed to become much more tolerant of another dog in his house.   Terra is crate trained. She sleeps well through the night without complaint, and plays with her chew toys if she wakes up before we do. During the day she'll spend 30-45 minutes crated off and on. She does so without being noisy now, except she does still protest if we have her crated when we are eating dinner. She does better if our dog is crated at dinner time with her, so it seems to be at least partially a competition/jealousy issue.   She's got her basic commands down--come, stay, sit, lay down, and her release command 'break.' She walks nicely on a leash, although we do have some issues with pulling when she's walked along with another dog. She's calmer when she's walked on her own as she still gets more playful energy when she's with a canine friend. We had some peeing occur in the house the first 2-3 weeks, but she has done great with potty training and it's been more than a month since the last incident.   Terra loves her toys and isn't choosy...she'll go from playing with a stuffy to nomming on a rope toy to chasing around a ball. While she has her bursts of playful energy, she has overall been calming down and having long periods where she chills out and and rests peacefully.   It's been a pleasant evolution as now she is far more content to spend stretches of time laying next to me resting or chewing on a toy while I read or am at my desk.   Terra has been waiting long months since arriving at Give a Dog a Home Rescue rescue in September to find a forever home with a family that will give her the love she deserves. If you can be that family, please apply to adopt What SandyNeeds ‍♀️ An active family that can meet her physical and mental exercise needs Mental stimulation and enrichment — structure, toys, puzzles, and engaging activities ️ High-quality food and treats to keep her healthy and energized Regular veterinary wellness checks for preventive care and long-term health ❤️ Time to adjust and feel safe — patience to decompress and build trust   Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Southern Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Sandy. ⏱️ Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Sandy?
