Story
Hello! Dixie is a one year old golden retriever, Australian Shepherd mix. She is extremely energetic. She needs to be with someone with a good amount of free time during their day. She digs holes. She needs to be in a kennel when at home alone or she might chew stuff up. She likes to bark and has chewed up furniture. so will need to go to someone who is experienced with high energy dogs. She has been around cats but likes to chase them. She was raised with a lot of time around 6 other dogs but has grabbed ahold of a small dog she was not fully familiar with. She likes to chase birds. She jumps extremely high and the only commands she’s knows are sit, and she will wait for her food until she here’s the command “break”.

Story
"Ernie" is an approximate 2 - 2.5-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix. He was pulled from Animal Welfare and unfortunately tested positive for heartworms upon his arrival. Since being with the ESPCA, "Ernie" has completed his heartworm protocol and is ready for his forever home. Due to the fact he was heartworm positive, it is very important that "Ernie" remains on monthly heartworm prevention, and heartworm checked at least every 2 years. The ESPCA will provide the first 6 months of his monthly prevention to his new family. This boy is dog friendly but absolutely NOT cat friendly! When it comes to people, he is accepting of most. We have learned that young children do make him quite nervous, and tall men who wear hats really set him off. As for women, he hasn't met one he doesn't like yet. :-) "Ernie" really enjoys playing in the yard, going on walks, and bathing in the sun. He is very treat motivated, smart, and will probably do really well in any home environment (minus cats and really young children).

Story
"Gabby" is a 3 - 3.5-year-old Anatolian mix. She was a pull from Animal Welfare as a stray never claimed. Why someone didn't claim this girl is unbelievable. This girl is a dream! She walks well on a leash. She is quiet. She is docile. She is obedient. She is sweet. She is gentle. She is dog friendly. Honestly, can't say what a good dog she is! Gabby is reserved (Anatolian trait). During the hours the kennels are open, most visitors will not see her. She likes a quieter, calm, slower paced environment so she will more than likely be out in her run. This is the type of homestyle that will fit her needs too. Easy going and laid back. However, when she is out in the yard during playgroup, Gabby does zoom around for a bit like a pup! Again, really can't say enough about this good girl. Come visit the kennels and be sure to ask to see "Gabby." You will not be disappointed.

Draco

American Staffordshire Terrier Mixed Breed (Large)

Male, 3 yrs 3 mos
Enid, OK
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
"Draco" is approximately 3 years old and unfortunately appears to have already lived a life of an old "street dog." He is a dog that wears scars both physically and emotionally. "Draco" did test positive for heartworms and has been receiving the necessary treatment. Physically he is a completely different dog, and slowly, but surely, he is changing emotionally too (for the best!). "Draco" is friendly with other dogs after proper introduction and is learning that when a hand comes near him, it's not to harm. He will need a home and new family members that can provide him a sense of security, an abundance amount of time, patience, love, and understanding. We recommend no small children, simply because of the fact that his experience with people before the ESPCA was negative, and everything just seems new to him. When "Draco" starts getting comfortable with you, he starts to show his personality. He'll "talk" to you and boop your hand and sniff vigorously for any possibility of finding hidden treats. He's a wonderful dog who just needs that second chance of a real dog life.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
"Naomi Judd" was caught in the Lahoma area with another dog ("Wyonna Judd") after they had been running around for over a month. "Naomi" has made amazing progress since her arrival. She is walking on a leash, approaching her kennel door for pets, and accepting new people with less apprehension. "Naomi" does get along with other dogs, but she does have an alpha type of personality. She does go out into the yard for playgroup but is brought in early sometimes when she decides to get too bossy. "Naomi" does keep her inside kennel clean and knows how to use her doggie door.
