Story
Hello, I'm Sprout! My past is a bit of a mystery, but my journey has brought me here, and I'm ready for my fresh start. Life was a little overwhelming in my previous foster home, very busy living situation where I didn't always know which items were mine to keep. Because of that, I've developed some "strong opinions" about my favorite things (bones, food, specific toys, and sometimes even my human's attention!) It's just my way of saying, "This is mine, and I'd like to keep it, please!" I have been in my new foster home with the Founder of Paws4Christ for just a few weeks and I’m making wonderful progress with positive reinforcement training (treats are my favorite motivation!) I am meeting lots of new furry friends here and my foster Pawrents have been so patient and consistent with teaching me that sharing is okay. Finding a forever family that understands this will continue to help me improve and grow into the bestest girl. I may do better in a home with one other doggo but prefer no younger children because I am quite an athletic and bouncy pup-per. At nearly two years old, for a 35 pound, medium size pup; I am a smart and affectionate gal who is learning to walk well on a leash, accepting that crate training is actually a good and safe space when needed, I love a good sniffari in the yard, and enjoy quiet time beside my humans or in their arms. Loyalty and protectiveness are my middle names. I’ll be your devoted shadow and guardian, always by your side and looking out for you. With my playful spirit and loving heart, I’ll bring you joy, laughter, and unconditional love. Could that be with you? If so, message Paws4Christ and click on the link below to start the approval process so I can finally meet you. Before you fill out the Application; you should know that I am an adventurous gal! I love going for a ride, I load right up in the truck and behave so well. I even keep an eye on the curbside orders the whole way home.

Story
Hello everyone! My name is Bo, and I am a lab mix who is looking for a loving home. You may notice that I am a little bit on the quiet side, but I have a heart of gold and a playful side that comes out when I'm comfortable. I have been through a lot lately. I used to have a brother, Duke, who was adopted, leaving me behind. I've been at Victoria County Animal Services since August of 2023 and I'm just so lonely and sad without my best friend. I really just want a family to call my own again. I miss my brother Duke a lot, but I know he must be happy and I do believe there's a family out there that will give me the love and care I need. I may be a little shy at first, but I'm really a sweet and playful boy who just wants to have someone to cuddle and enjoy walks with. I would prefer to be the only dog in the household so I can finally be the center of attention but having a sibling again would be nice. If you think your heart can handle more love, and you're willing to take a chance on a sweet, lonely boy like me, please come meet me today! So…Duke was brought back to the shelter!!! We are together again. I have my best friend and I never want to loose him. Please Lord send an amazing family to adopt us together so we will never be separated again and always be loved unconditionally.

Story
Hi there! My name is Oliver, and I am a male doggie who is just waiting to find my furever home. I am a friendly and playful pooch who loves to have a good time, whether that's running around and playing fetch, or curling up on the couch and taking a well-deserved nap. I am athletic and love to stay active, but I also appreciate the importance of good rest. I am also a well-mannered dog, and I get along well with other dogs, so if you're looking for a new pal for your pup, look no further! I may be an adult doggie, but I am still full of love and energy, and I am excited to meet my forever family. I was abandoned in Victoria Texas, and while I have no hard feelings toward my previous owners, I am ready to find a place to call my forever home. If you are looking for a fun, loyal and loving companion, apply to adopt me today!

Story
Miss Layla is such a sweet girl that has the silliest personality, loves to lounge around the house all day and play with her foster siblings. She is friendly with people, kiddos and dogs but shows some excitement with the kitty cats. She gives kisses and will bath other dogs in them as well, it is quite entertaining. Her and Chance are buddies and hang around each other mot days having a great time. We believe she would do good in a home with another dog because she does so well with the rescues here. She takes a little bit to warm up too but once she does, she blossoms into a little social butterfly. She makes the silliest expressions with her floppy ears and little tongue hanging out. She likes to go on walks but is not a fan of the outdoors. She is crate trained for emergencies and at night because she is in a foster home but out during the day and does so well on the furniture. She does snore occasionally and whimpers in her sleep but this girl has got a heart the size of Texas once you give her a chance to show herself to you. She deserves a loving family and we would consider waiving her adoption fee to an approved applicant who would want to adopt her and Chance because they are so bonded. They would definitely thrive together more and a huge secure backyard to run and have fun as they do here when we have outdoor play time. Chance is listed under us as well if you would like to check out his bio. Layla was a stray found in Victoria, Texas. She takes time to warm up in new environments being that she was abandoned and out on the streets 3-6 months that we can confirm. A very sweet elderly couple fed her and provided medical care she needed. We offered to help with Layla while they went out of town and the husband had surgery but once we brought her into our place we could not let her go back to being outside, especially knowing she is on treatment for being strong Heartworm positive. It causes her to be extremely exhausted and she gets overly excited often making her drool and pant. We keep her daily outdoor walks to a minimum, especially during the highest temperatures of the day that causes her to get overly exerted and breathes heavily. So pee pad training indoors has been a success for Layla when we can’t take her outside for her own safety and comfort. All her heartworm treatment/testing is covered until she tests negative. Strong Heartworm Positive ———————————————————————— It means that a dog has been found to be infested with Dirofilaria immitis, the organism that causes heartworm disease in dogs. This is a large worm with a six-to-seven-month life cycle that ultimately ends up living in the heart and pulmonary vessels. In general, with proper treatment and care, the survival rate for dogs with heartworm disease is estimated to be around 70-90%. However, some dogs may have permanent damage to the heart and lungs even after successful treatment. Treatment entails injections, and oftentimes hospitalization is required. Recovery can take up to a couple of months. “Treatment is expensive because it requires multiple visits to the veterinarian, bloodwork, x-rays, hospitalization and a series of injections,” according to the FDA. Recovery can take up to six months, and there are often lasting effects on the animal's heart. Heartworm preventatives, like Simparica Trio, Trifexis, Tri-Heart Plus, Interceptor Plus, and Iverhart Max for dogs, come in tablets or chewable and in topical treatments, which usually provide protection and are administered monthly. Heartworm disease is a potentially deadly condition caused by parasites that are transmitted via mosquito bites in dogs that can be prevented with prices ranging for dogs at $5-$25+ per month and the cost of treating a dog already diagnosed with heartworm at $400-$1,000+ It so very important to limit outdoor exposure and activities especially in the peak times of year when we have the highest risk of mosquitoes ? Layla will definitely need to be an indoor girl and will do best with a brother or sister to play with. She will take time to decompress because she has trust issues from her past. Decompression has to be taken serious with any furbaby and that can take anywhere from 3 days to 6 months+ but with you patience and understanding heart she comes around rather quickly. We initially started her out in a quiet room with a very large crate on day one to three with several trips outside and in our home with a lead on her harness setup so she could become familiar with everyone, the sounds and our movements to be able to communicate with her that we are not going to harm her and establish a good tone with her that showed we care. Day four we moved the crate into the center of our home so she could see the movement in and around her was a safe and rather fun environment to be in. Just days later she was out running with our other fosters and our personal furbabies. They don’t just trust you right away because you have a comfortable home, treats and toys. They trust you because you take the time for them, to make things convenient, comfortable and consistent for them, so they can fill that whole in their heart that someone put there when they gave up on her. She is so deserving of a good home and we will see her through to that someday when the Lord sends the angels meant for Miss Layla. We won’t give up on you girl . We know and see how blessed we are to have the opportunity to nurture her back to the fullest she can be. God is so good CALL OR TEXT 3618944967

Story
Precious is a reactive doggie, that means she may become overly aroused by common stimuli. They may lunge, bark and growl, becoming so preoccupied with whatever is triggering the emotion that they can be difficult to control and move out of the situation. A reactive dog is usually a fearful dog and in her case it is mostly because of her abusive past. Her adoptive pawsrents would need to be prepared for the possibility of an outburst if she were to feel overwhelmed or anxious. She would do best in a home without children or other doggies, although she gets along with them so well. She has some food aggression, so we crate her or separate her when feeding. She is absolutely the best pup we have had the blessings to bring in and help overcome many challenges from her past. She is so loving, friendly and aware of her surroundings. She is dog selective and prefers to be the only doggie in the home. Precious is a loyal, passive and dainty girl. She enjoys getting treats, hugs, running and spending time cuddling her current foster parents. She is definitely an indoors gal, but loves her outside playtime with her fellow foster fur-babies. She knows a few basic commands of paw shakes and sit. She is pee pad trained indoors and will go to the door to go potty outside. She is crate trained, dog, cat and kid friendly. Walks very well on a leash especially with a harness setup. She seems to be partial to men, and sometimes follows her foster dad around just hanging out, curious of what he is up to. She loves car rides, always ready to jump in the front seat and go. She sleeps indoors at night in bed with her foster parents or on her bedding and this girl not only sleeps all through the night but she likes to sleep in late as well. We believe she would thrive in a home with another furbaby and someone she can travel with because she absolutely loves going on trips. March 16, 2023 We received a phone call on a smaller pup that was found in the street, not of good health needing to be picked up. We agreed to get her and had placement arranged! On the way to that little one, the same lady reached out to us that there was another pup in need of a rescue that was in a bad situation and needed medical attention. We were nervous because there was no plan for her, but we agreed that we could. Upon arriving she sat with a small rope tied around her neck, skin and bones, you could see every rib and backbone sticking out. Her nails were long and filthy, she smelled of urine and feces. I walked up to her and she bowed her body down as if she thought I would hurt her, I gently said hello and rubbed her nose and she was ready to go! As we were walking to the truck, the person who had apparently had her for years rudely commanded me to give him back that rope and I told him I needed to walk her to my vehicle first because I didn’t have anything extra with me to secure her but thankfully another person stepped in and said it’s okay I will give you mine. I rushed and put her in my backseat and never looked back. Never go on a rescue mission alone or without heavy protection on you, especially if you feel it’s a threatening environment. We got Miss Precious home and she was so scared it took us nearly three hours to get her out of the truck. She was so afraid of the unknown! She was covered in fleas, ticks, skin infections and she was producing milk! Yes, she had a litter and apparently it was not her first. We did ask about the puppies and were told they had been given away! Father God, we pray and ask a hedge of protection over those babies Lives! So Precious spent her life in a crate, tied to a tree or mostly kept in a camper without AC/Heat. Whatever confined area she was in definitely caused her paws to fold in and nails to curl under. She was used multiple times for breeding and has sure signs of physical abuse and neglect. She flinches to every move you make, and cowers down when you come up to her. She runs from loud noises and hides in a corner. We only know what we have been told, the information the vet clarified and what we can clearly see! Precious has had a rough life for sure. The previous owners that surrendered her said she had been with him six year! According to her dental she could very well be, but the Veterinary Clinic said approximately three years of age. We strongly believe Precious will thrive in any home and can only be an indoor family addition. She is very loyal, builds a strong bond and emotionally attaches herself to one to two humans. With her history of neglect and abuse she will require extra love and attention to feel secure and adapt comfortably in her environment. Precious is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, up to date on all vaccines, on flea/tick/heartworm preventatives and dewormed. We pray today Lord that you send an angel specifically for Precious. You know her wants and needs. We know you will provide the best life and it will replace the years that have been taken from her so well that she won’t even remember them, in Jesus name we pray, Amen. 1 Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
