Sometimes the hardest part isn’t being lost… it’s realizing no one is looking for you. Dax… once had a name, a home, a family. He was just a puppy when we pulled him from the euthanasia list in 2024. Just a baby with his whole life ahead of him. Three months later… he was adopted. We thought that was his ending. His forever. But 16 months later, on October 31st… a call came from the shelter in Mount Vernon. They found him. Alone. Wandering. The same boy who once left with hope… was now back with nothing. When we reached out, we hoped for relief. Maybe someone had been searching. Maybe there was a mistake. Instead, we heard it clearly— “I don’t want him anymore.” “I don’t want it. I don’t want it. I don’t want it back.” And just like that… Dax lost his family all over again. ⸻ But here’s what they didn’t take from him: His joy. His love. His belief in people. Dax is still the same sweet, happy boy. A bundle of energy with a heart wide open. He’ll run, stretch, and play like life has never hurt him… and then—if you sit down and call him— he’ll gently place his paws on your shoulders and just… stay there. Quiet. Still. Soaking in every scratch, every second of love.
