Story
This cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. We've seen good progress here at the ARL, but don't be surprised if it takes several weeks for this cat to become comfortable in a new place. This cat may hide and just observe at first - maybe for quite a while - and that is perfectly normal. Young children are too much for this cat right now, so we are highly recommending a quiet, mature home. We are happy to provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat extra time, patience and TLC, please consider adopting! It will be so rewarding to watch them gain confidence and start enjoying all the good things in life! HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Carol at cgriglione@arl-iowa.org.---- Playful, cuddly, and happy boy- Likes wand toys, kicky toys, and socks- Doing well with another cat in his foster home that is very active and playful, and will benefit from a cat with a similar personality and playstyle in his new home. A passive, laidback cat will likely not be a good match for him- Enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster family!- Young or busy children, and fast movements can be scary for him, so he may be happiest in a mature home- Is fearful of loud noises (like a TV or loud music), so he is looking for a calmer, quieter home- Takes time to warm up to you, so let him go at the pace he feels comfortableThis cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. We've seen good progress in his foster home, but don't be surprised if it takes several weeks for this cat to become comfortable in a new place. Story
- Loves to play with toys, often gets the zoomies - any toys that allow him to chase and "catch" are his favorites- Will benefit from play-stimulation that exhausts his prey instinct- Friendly, sweet boy who will cuddle and ask for pets on his own terms - he will let you know when he has had enough- Is doing well with his cat roommates - Does not like to be touched or pet on his chest/stomach area- Loves to explore - he wants to be your shadow and follow you around the house- Will do best with someone that allows him to sleep in the same room - he responds to closed doors (with someone inside) with crying and pawing- Good at communicating through body language; looking for a cat-savvy home where all family members are mature enough to understand and respect his signals (kids, especially young ones, may not be a great fit for him at this time)-This cat has shown signs of overstimulation while in the shelter. Lots of handling, playing with hands, and excessive petting can cause them to overstimulate, which can result in scratching and/or biting. This cat is looking for experienced cat owners who will watch this cat's body language while interacting to note signs of overstimulation (tail waving, fur rippling, dilated pupils, ears turned back and quick body movements) and be willing to respect their boundaries. This cat will also benefit from interactive toys such as wands and ball spinners while playing. We are happy to speak with you more when you visit and can provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat mental stimulation, patience and space when they need it, please consider adopting! They would love to be your sidekick and buddy for life!
