Story
It was below freezing in January 2021 in Gaston County NC. I was out on my balcony and heard the loudest tiny kitten cries. I grabbed a can of cat food, some treats, and a flashlight, and headed downstairs to the parking lot. As I got closer to the retaining wall, the cries grew louder and I finally spotted a tiny kitten loaf…shivering. I lured her into my coat with treats and brought her inside to my warm and cozy apartment. The rest as they say, is history. Peanut loves head rubs and hiding under the bed.

Story
Turtle is a fluffy orange and white longhaired kitten with a personality as adorable as his name! This handsome little guy came to us in late May along with his equally curiously named littermates: Salamander, Rattlesnake, Newt, Frog, and Toad. The whole crew was transferred from an overcrowded shelter and while we don’t know much about how they ended up there, we do know they’ve come a long way thanks to the loving care of one of our amazing foster homes. Turtle has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, so he’s all ready to find his forever home! As a longhaired kitty, Turtle’s stunning coat will need regular grooming to keep it tangle-free and soft. His adopter should be prepared to brush him several times a week (if not daily) to keep mats and knots at bay. The good news is: with early socialization in his foster home, Turtle is used to being handled and should take to grooming quite well with gentle, patient care. Like most kittens, Turtle is a bundle of energy, curiosity and mischief! He loves to play, explore, climb, and chase anything that moves. You can expect him to zoom around one moment, then curl up next for a nap. Kittens also benefit from positive social interaction, enrichment and consistent litter box maintenance. Expect to invest time into: * Playtime & stimulation: Toys, scratching posts and climbing spaces are a must. * Regular vet care: Even healthy kittens need checkups and booster vaccines. * Proper nutrition: A high-quality kitten diet will help him grow strong and healthy. Turtle is looking for an adopter who understands that kittens can be a handful, but that pays off in a lifetime of love. He’ll thrive in a home that can give him plenty of attention, a safe space to explore and regular grooming to keep him looking as fabulous as he feels. Ready to bring a little wild (and a lot of cute) into your life? Come meet Turtle and see if this huggable adventurer is your perfect match! The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Story
Introducing Stanley, a kitten with a fighter’s spirit and a heart full of love. He came to our shelter at the end of April along with his mom, Sasha, and siblings Gandolf and Sonya, after being transferred from an overcrowded shelter in Indiana. While we don’t know how this little family ended up there, we do know they were packed in tight and desperately needed space and a second chance. Stanley’s journey hasn’t been easy. He arrived needing treatment for worms, an intestinal infection and an upper respiratory infection. But this little guy is tough as nails. He pushed through every challenge like a champ and is now healthy, thriving and ready for his forever home. He’s been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, with a clean bill of health and lots of playful energy to share. As with any young kitten, adopting Stanley means: * Expecting bursts of high energy, followed by deep naps in sunny spots * Providing supervision and a safe environment, especially during his playful explorations * A commitment to regular veterinary care, proper nutrition and helping him learn all the good cat manners * And, most of all, being ready to give and receive a whole lot of love Stanley may have had a bumpy start, but he hasn’t let it slow him down. He’s playful, curious and has a resilience that makes him shine. Come meet Stanley and give this little house panther the happy ending he’s been waiting for. Story
Meet Chloe, a sleek, green-eyed beauty who’s as playful as she is striking. This young girl was transferred to our shelter at the end of June from another overcrowded shelter, where she was at risk simply due to lack of space. While we don’t know how Chloe ended up in a shelter to begin with, we do know she deserves a loving forever home where her playful spirit can shine! Chloe is a polydactyl cat—meaning she was born with extra toes on her paws! This unique genetic trait occurs when a dominant gene causes additional digits to form, giving her paws a mitten-like look that makes her even more special (and skilled at catching toys!). It’s totally harmless and undeniably adorable. Chloe is full of joyful energy! She goes wild for ribbon wand toys and feather wands, though fair warning—she’ll make quick work of those feathers with her assertive pouncing and precision paw-work. She’s clever, fast and endlessly entertaining. Chloe recently recovered from a mild feline respiratory infection and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She's ready to find her perfect match. Statistics show that black cats such as Chloe often get overlooked by potential adopters, but black cats have long been associated with good fortune in cultures around the world. In Scotland and Japan, they’re considered symbols of prosperity. Sailors once believed black cats brought safe travels. And in folklore, they’ve often been thought to ward off evil and bring luck. Chloe is the ultimate house panther—sleek, elegant, mysterious, and full of affection and fun. Don't miss your chance to bring some extra toes and a little magic into your home.
