Story
Jimmy is a handsome, black, long-haired boy. He is the other half of the Riff/Jimmy duo. Jimmy’s backstory is that both he and Riff were living outside of a colony in the north of Toronto and had been fed by a caring member of the public for their entire life. Their feeder was leaving Toronto and needed to be retrieved from their colony, as there was no replacement feeder for them to turn to.Jimmy is the more outgoing of the twosome; his morning routine is to approach his human while they are lying in bed so that he can have his head and back scratched, enticing them to get out of bed so that he can get breakfast. Like Riff, they both dislike being picked up. He and Riff will play with the other cats in their foster home, running back and forth playing a game of chase.Jimmy has idiopathic epilepsy, which means that he sometimes has seizures that have no identifiable cause. He has been evaluated by a neurologist and does not currently require medication to manage his condition, but he may in the future. Potential adopters will need to take Jimmy in for annual rechecks with a neurologist to monitor his condition. Jimmy has also had a surgery called an FHO (femoral head ostectomy). After his neurological episode, he was limping on his left back leg and was seen by a vet, where x-rays were performed. The X-rays showed advanced femoral head necrosis. Since the surgery, he is no longer limping and has a full range of motion in his back leg. Jimmy is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. He is FIV & feline leukemia negative. He has also had his teeth cleaned at the end of September 2024.Jimmy is meal-fed twice a day; he is accustomed to this method of feeding and will eat his entire meal when it is offered. He is larger than his brother Riff, but still has a healthy body weight. He says he looks bigger because of all the fluff. Jimmy is an adorable and lovely guy, and he loves his brother Riff greatly. They will make a great addition to a patient adopter and, with time, will learn to trust and bond with their human even more so.

Story
Whitney is a former street cat and was brought inside when she was pregnant with 7 kittens! She is very sweet but is still adjusting to indoor life. Whitney is extremely playful and loves batting her toys around and chasing treats. She is very affectionate but is not yet okay with being touched. Whitney has been working with a behavior specialist for the past few months and is making slow and steady progress towards being touched. In the meantime she loves being pet with a back scratcher and will flop and show her belly for you to scratch. She will sometimes softly cry to let you know she would like some attention and often perks up when you walk by with the hope of pets. She is good with other cats and would likely benefit from a friend but would also be okay alone. Whitney needs an experienced and patient adopter to help her adjust to her new life. Whitney is negative for FIV and FeLV. She has mild gingivitis and would benefit from tooth brushing and a dental diet. Like all ACR cats, Whitney is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.

Story
Introducing Her Royal Highness, the Grand Duchess Anastasia. This fluffy former colony-cat reigns supreme over her indoor kingdom, spending countless hours sleeping or lounging while binge-watching `Bird TV` from her throne (the couch). While her subjects may long for a royal snuggle, Anastasia prefers to keep her distance - with an aversion to physical contact that would make even the most aloof monarch proud. While she does not bite, Anastasia does regularly hiss and may swat at you out of fear if she is startled upon approach. But her hisses serve as a reminder of her boundaries, telling all who dare to encroach upon her sovereignty that she is not to be trifled with. We admire a lady who speaks her mind. When not busy issuing decrees, Anastasia engages in charitable work, and is a patron of the bread bank - kneading away on her favourite sweater. She also enjoys climbing her cat tower to gaze upon her kingdom and royal subjects. In the middle of the night, Anastasia emerges from her royal chambers to chase balls and spring toys. She also finds joy in the humble cardboard scratcher, a simple scratching post, and cat dancers.Anastasia seeks an experienced adopter of royal caliber - one who appreciates her independent spirit and respects her boundaries. While she may not grant the gift of pets or cuddles, her willingness to share her space speaks volumes of her generous spirit. She will require much patience and understanding as she acclimates to her new domain and in time will grace her chosen companion with the privilege of her presence, basking in their company from a distance. For those with the wisdom to accept her on her own terms, Anastasia promises a companionship as unique and cherished as the crown jewels themselves.Anastasia has grown accustomed to the company of her foster sister, Hazel, and would be best adopted out to a home together.Anastasia has a history of mild tartar and may need future dental cleanings. She is negative for FIV and FeLV. Like all ACR cats, Anastasia is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.

Story
Miss Bellum is a former feral cat who was rescued from the outdoors along with her kittens, who were just a few weeks old at the time. Initially, she was extremely fearful and defensive, often hissing or swatting when she felt threatened. But after months of dedicated socialization and lots of Churu tube treats (her absolute favorite!), she has made incredible progress and has officially transformed from a meanie panini to a cute patootie! She is happy being indoors and has learned to enjoy the company of humans.Miss Bellum is still very shy, but she has “safe zones” where she feels comfortable and secure, such as her window hammock or the hut in her cat tower. In these areas, she allows gentle pets and happily interacts with her humans without feeling the urge to run away and will sometimes reward her human with soft, quiet purrs. She is independent and prefers to approach people on her own terms. She does not like being held or picked up but she does enjoy affection when she feels safe. After her kittens were adopted, Miss Bellum had the chance to meet and live alongside several other foster kittens who she graciously shared her space with. She learned a great deal from them, becoming more curious, confident, and willing to interact with humans. She has formed a particularly sweet bond with a kitten named BMO, who encourages her bravery and companionship. Miss Bellum would likely do best in a home with a friendly, patient cat who can show her the ropes, or she could also be adopted alongside BMO. Miss Bellum will need a very patient adopter who can continue to help her feel comfortable indoors and allow her the time and love to come out of her shell. With the right environment, she will continue to blossom, showing her humans gentle affection and quiet, sweet companionship.Miss Bellum is negative for FIV and FeLV. She had a recent dental that involved removing a broken tooth. Like all ACR cats, Miss Bellum is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.

Her beautiful eyes are especially captivating, full of warmth and quiet curiosity. In fact, once you look into her eyes, you will absolutely fall in love just like her foster family has. Thank you for welcoming a senior cat into your family - an adoption fee of your choice is appreciated, vs. our standard adult cat adoption fee of $250.

Story
“I know they are helping me.” - Hobbes the cat.It certainly has been a rough start for our boy, Hobbes. Found wandering on the streets of Etobicoke, very sick and unable to fend for himself, his only hope was to find someone to care for him. EHS stepped in, and his incredible healing journey began. Time to recover from life outdoors, and dental surgeries to successfully address his periodontal disease, has allowed Hobbes to show us his true resilience. Now recovered, our little trooper is ready to find a forever family.ABOUT HOBBES- In foster- Despite his rough past, Hobbes is a very trusting cat. He can be picked up and cuddled any time, any day.- In fact, Hobbes is the true definition of a cuddler! He’ll sit on your lap and enjoy lots of chin scratches and head rubs, all while purring up a storm. He will even stick his head out to get your attention so that you know that he wants more. Hobbes would sit on your lap all day if he could. He just wants to be loved! - He will also allow his foster dad to brush him when he is on his lap. Gotta keep that golden coat in tip top shape. - Hobbes is very food-motivated and meows in excitement when he hears the rustle of the food bag or cans!- He will more than likely require some personalized care due to the fact that he has trouble cleaning himself, and is also a bit of a messy eater! A potential adopter should be willing to give him an occasional bath (which he tolerates very well!) and clean up after he has finished his meal. - Due to Hobbes’s dental surgeries, his tongue seems to stick out of his mouth most of the time. In the endearing words of his foster dad, ‘He always looks like he has a derpy ` :P ` face going on!” What an adorable quirk!- He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations. - Hobbes has FIV, which is a virus that weakens the immune system of a cat but is not transmissible to humans or other species.HOBBES’S IDEAL HOME- Hobbes enjoys the company of felines and would be happy to share a home with another FIV+ friend. Being an only cat would suit him just fine as well.- He is more of a passive participant with the resident cats; Hobbes is a very mellow boy who simply enjoys being in their company.- He does not require medication but vet checkups twice a year are recommended.- Cats who have FIV can live just as long as other cats if they are properly c

Story
Klaus is coming to town!Fittingly, Klaus arrived at EHS from a municipal animal shelter during the Christmas season. Similarly to his namesake Santa, Klaus is described as having a big, bold personality and is ready to settle down in a place to call home.ABOUT KLAUS- In foster- Having once lived as a stray on the streets, Klaus is cautious when it comes to new people and environments. A big fan of the slow approach, he appreciates those who take the time to get to know him through gentle communication and soft blinks. If he feels unsafe, he will hiss and swat.- Once he is comfortable, he loves a few head and chin scritches with the back-scratcher.- He loves to snuggle in his kennel in the shelter but also to survey the world around him while resting on top of his cat tree.- Klaus has FIV, which is a virus that weakens the immune system of a cat but is not transmissible to humans or other species.- He is a skittish cat who has had minimal experience with humans.- He is currently enrolled in EHS’s socialization program, where dedicated volunteers are working to help him become more comfortable around people.- Klaus is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and is up to date on core vaccinations.KLAUS’ IDEAL HOME- Klaus would prefer to be the only cat of the household.- Klaus does not require medication but vet checkups twice a year are recommended.- Cats who have FIV can live just as long as other cats if they are properly cared for with a good diet, an indoor home, and a loving family. - A skittish cat, like Klaus, will benefit from a calm, quiet environment, preferably without small children.- Potential adopters should be prepared to commit the time, effort, and patience required to help Klaus settle into his new environment. EHS will provide post-adoption support to assist Klaus with a successful transition to his forever home.Always nice and sometimes naughty, Klaus is ready to retire his past life and start again in time for the new year. If you’re ready to give Klaus his second chance, apply to adopt him today. If you have any questions about Klaus or the adoption process, please contact cats@etobicokehumanesociety.com
