A letter describing PoundCake to potential adopters from our Founder and shelter director: I stopped at the shelter this morning as I often do every morning before work. I fed Catalina and the other kittens. Grabbed a hoodie and went to leave. PoundCake meowed. That old raspy meow he does and tried to chase me down. He wanted petted. I stopped and kneeled down and pet him. Then I picked him up and he purred like there was literally no tomorrow. I told him he was the bestest boy there ever could be. I knew that I had to leave then or I was never making it out the door. I turned quick and ran and he followed me as fast as his pudgy legs could carry sir pounder……. He only made it halfway up the stairs as I turned to shut the door. The look on his face “Don’t leave me…….” Crushed my soul this morning. And I was late for work. PoundCake isn’t old. He just acts it. He is around five years old. Has great teeth! He was pulled from a colony trapping where he fathered many many children before volunteers got the colony under control. It was below freezing when I said I would give him a try to be adopted out here. One speck of kindness and he is your friend for life. He bonds almost instantly, and with each passing day the heart grows fonder. He was something to someone once and that someone was his absolute everything that he lived and existed for. Ties severed because of some bad behavior and placement outside…. I am sure of it. Fast forward to now, rescued and vetted and slowly stealing my heart too. I hold him longer than I should. Special cats like Poundcake draw lines in the sand. Most cats when adopted are just happy they are with awesome humans and grow to love them day after day. With PoundCake if I hold him too much and cross that line, he will hate me when he is adopted. He will love his new people for sure, but will hate me for letting him go. Like he wasted his love twice in life and starting over again. So whomever adopts him absolutely SHOULD cross that line of no turning back, but never ever break his heart because he now carries a piece of mine along with his.

Juice is such a sweet and loving boy! A little shy at first but comes around super fast! He loves love and affection! He loves to sleep inside the cubbyhole in the cat tree, but is super happy to see a friend coming to give him some love! He's very playful and often will play with blankets while they get changed. He loves his friends as well and would do extremely well with another cat! ##2536673##

Zeus is a bit shy at first but once he warms up he is an absolute sweetheart! He doesn’t like to be picked up but he loves to flop over at your feet and wait for affection! He’s super playful but would do well with a friend who’s chill and can respect his boundaries! He loves toys that are the color orange, especially pumpkins or carrots! He waits patiently for treats and wet food and is a great boy overall! ##2550471##

This is Lansing, a long-haired black cat who is approximately seven years old. He is FIV-positive, which simply means he has a weakened immune system and should be kept indoors, receive regular vet care, and maintain a low-stress lifestyle. FIV cats can live long, happy lives and can safely live with other friendly cats, as it is not spread through casual contact such as sharing bowls, grooming, or playing. Lansing came to us with severe double entropion and required surgical correction, so the appearance of his eyes will always reflect the condition he battled through. Despite everything he has endured, Lansing is an incredibly sweet and loving boy. He enjoys being pet and has a charming habit—when you lean in to kiss him on the head, he lifts his head toward you like he knows exactly what you’re doing. He gets along well with other cats, is fine with dogs, and is overall a very calm, laid-back companion. He mostly keeps to himself, loves to sleep, and prefers a quiet, predictable environment. Phantom is a sweet boy who loves attention. He was surrendered after a humane agent went into the home. He came to us with his Mother (Onyx) & siblings (Jet, Deavul, & Phantom). As well as 11 kittens that he may have helped father. What started as a home with 2 cats quickly became a home of 17 and by the time we got them more were on the way! Unfortunately, as numbers grew the living conditions went down. All of the cats were infested with worms, fleas, and the worst case of earmites we have seen. It looked like mud was packed into their ears. Therefore, they were covered in bites all around their heads. We nursed all 17 back to health and gave them all the love they deserved! Phantom is looking for his forever home, a place he can be cared for appropriately and loved for the rest of his life! Phantom is now the only 1 left from his situation! We are so thankful that everyone has found loving homes! Now we pray he does as well!  ##2488595##
