Story
Oh this kitten sure is cute!!! Adopting a kitten is a very important decision. This itty bitty kitty will grow into a cat that will depend on you for love and care for the rest of its life. Kittens are super playful and very curious so don`t forget to kitten-proof your home. Some kittens enjoy the company of other animals and some do not, but that can be determined at the shelter. Bringing home a new kitten is a fun and life changing event. The love and companionship that cats give are priceless and many people regard their new pet as a member of the family. If you are interested in adopting, visit us today.

Story
Praxidike is one of the many kittens available for adoption at MHS. Kittens go 'live' on Petfinder at age 8 weeks, so there are more kittens in foster care in addition to the ones featured online. The MHS adoption donation includes initial vaccines, certificate for spay/neuter, testing for FIV/FELV, fecal testing and microchip. To apply for any of our cats/kittens, visit our website at https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=meridenhumanesociety&method=online_form_html&formid=28

Story
ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)     Ravioli Petite Pirate arrives Feb 26 from Saudi. She is a small one eyed kitty who tends to take the reins in her home:) She is cuddly and loves to play so needs an active home. Herstory: left behind pregnant, hungry and scared. Without any survival instincts, she lost her eye to a cat fight. She is very sweet and friendly but after losing her eye she became stressed from other cats. She could be a solo but we can better determine that after her arrival--if so, then she would like a stay at home mom or dad:) All kittens are adoptable in pairs only unless another age appropriate cat is in residence.  Most of our adult cats also like cat company (most fosters are multicat homes).  Please read the following article on cat food to see why no dry: www.catinfo.org  Facebook:Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there) Twitter: zanisff Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   All cats are in the NY area.  Cats are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped.  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site      https://zanisfurryfriends.org      fill out an application and return to   cats@zanisfurryfriends.org   Please note: kittens must be adopted in pairs or to households with age appropriate cat(s) to ensure proper socialization and companionship. NO exceptions! If you would prefer a solo cat, we would be happy to recommend those cats who would do best as solo cats. All our cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, FVRCP and Rabies vaxed and also microchipped.   Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent.  Please ask by writing us at cats@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too. Please come! And if you can't adopt, foster or volunteer, you can always donate! Story
Jackson Jr. is a very handsome medium hair gray tabby with white on his lower face, neck, belly and feet. He looks like he is wearing white boots and white gloves. His owner had to surrender him after having him for 3 years, so he is a little shy at first. You can pick him up and pet him but not for very long. Once he is in a home again, he will probably turn into a loving lap pet. He would be best as the only cat in a home with no children or dogs so he can get his owner's undivided love and attention. He has been neutered & is up to date on his vaccinations. All of our cats are fostered in Tennessee, but we transport to most states. This animal is being fostered in the South but transport to a location near you is included in your adoption fee. We use Rescue Riders Pet Transport, (www.rescueridersllc.net), the most animal-friendly transport on the road.

Story
Luna was purchased in New York City close to an animal hospital when she was only weeks old. She is now 3 and 1/2. She has been a sole pet until July, 2025 when we acquired another kitten. She has not taken to the new kitten and feels that her territory is being invaded despite all our efforts to acclimatize her to the new kitten. We travel a lot so the premise was to have a friend for Luna when we are not home. This effort backfired and Luna probably needs to be on her own. Luna is a very independent and feisty cat. She is lively, playful and enjoys being in the company of her owners; in the same room. She will gladly jump and seek attention but will not remain in one's lap for a long time. She, like most cats, enjoys a bit of human contact and attention every day but not too much. She is a joy to have around and is a beautiful animal. Parting with her will be most difficult but we just feel that it is the best thing to do considering the uptick in our travel schedule.

Story
*** For Information about Adopting or Meeting our Cats, 1) Click Here to Submit an Application 2) Be Approved 3) Make an Appointment *** Salt & Pepper are a pair of young adult sisters who were thrown out of bodega due to not fulfilling their "mousing duties". Salt is a shorthair & Pepper is a bit longer coated but I'm not sure if she truly qualifies as a longhair. They're still getting used to the shelter so we haven't tried them out with other kitties yet or really been able to assess whether they're bonded or not. Both girls are microchipped, vaccinated, spayed & ready for their furever home(s)!
