Luna – Our Shy, Independent Sweetheart Luna has a special story. We found her as a tiny kitten in our building stairway, scared and alone. With patience (and plenty of food!), she slowly came out of her shell and became part of our family. Almost three years later, she’s still the same gentle, food-motivated girl we first brought home. Luna is a quiet, independent cat who enjoys life at her own pace. She loves playing with catnip toys and will happily chase a laser pointer for as long as you’ll let her. She gets along well with other cats and even dogs once she has time to warm up and feel safe. Luna isn’t a very cuddly cat, but she shows affection in her own way. She’s not big on being held or petted, but she will gladly accept head rubs—especially when snacks are involved! She would do best in a calm, patient home that understands she needs time to build trust. CURRENTLY UPDATED! Please meet GAYLOR - A Big-hearted Loverboy!! This beautiful boy was found in a community garden striving for food and looking for shelter to be safe from the harsh and cruel environment he endured. Of course without hesitation we took this sweet boy off the street. We can only guess that he lost his home in a very young age, as he settled into his foster home with a bit caution, but it became very quickly apparent that behind his hesitation, a beautiful gentle furry companion was waiting to come out of his shell. At first, GAYLOR was only peaking around at night time to check out his foster home and particular his sleeping human rescue until he took his heart in his paws 😻 and jumped on the bed right next to her. Since then he displayed more and more his confidence but also his tender side and affection and insists on his "reserved " nightly spot right in the arms of his foster mom. GAYLOR continues to sparkle full of affection, by following his human around and can't wait until she sits down so he can snuggle in right next to her giving head butts under deep satisfying purrs. Often he secured his position by putting his big paws on her lap tomake sure tht she does not move away - so make room for a "purrfect snuggler! But GAYLOR has also a playful personality, batting his toys around chasing feather or strings during playtime. He loves to hang out with his foster siblings, so would be a PURRFECT companion for a residential kitty that is laid back and not too dominant GAYLOR is fully vetted including microchip with a clean bill of health and ready to go to his forever home that showers him with love, attention and most of all snuggle and cuddle time. She is a beautiful, fluffy, black cat who lost her home when her owner was no longer able to care for her. She is 13 years young and you would never know that she is a senior because she has so much love to give, and honestly can be a bit energetic at sometimes. She is ready to hit the town. She wants to explore the room. The petting I had to give her never seemed to be enough in that she was always seeking more, and I absolutely love that she was so incredibly loving towards me, leaning her head into my hand. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children.I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.What my friends at ACC say about me:Eduardo was lying down at the bottom cubby with his head and ears forward, focused on the assessor with a neutral body and eyes. He curiously sniffs treats offered by hand and then flinches, short stress meows, and swats the assessor's hand (breaking the assessor's glove) when pet on the head. He crawls back, sniffs the scratcher tool, allows petting on the head with his ears tilted to the side, and then rolls and leans in hard for cheek rubs by the tool. He tenses up when stroking his body and leans his head forward to sniff more treats offered. When attempting to pet Eduardo by hand again, he leans back, sinks his head into his shoulders, and swipes the air in front of him. Pick up was not attempted in order to reduce stress.Eduardo tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.A volunteer writes: Eduardo stretches out in his cubby like he's on a beach vacation and we can't wait until he learns about forever family. On his shelter vacation he lies with his belly up, enormous fluffy paws in every direction so that he lazily regard the room like he doesn't have to. The shelter might feel like a vacation to Eduardo because he was found frozen in place outside on one of the coldest days. Eduardo welcomed help when it arrived in the form of a Good Samaritan and a trip to us where, by the looks of him, it seems like he's truly embraced Care Center life. I quickly learned that Eduardo's vacation is kind of a solo trip at the moment and I totally get and respect that. When I extended my hand, which he admittedly might not be used to, Eduardo quickly righted himself to investigate the intrusion I inadvertently posed. Blinking out at me, I almost got distracted by Eduardo's cheeks but learned that he likes the scratcher tool for cheek rubs. While the shelter vacation has been a great break from whatever was going on in his life before, we can't wait for him to find his forever with you. A volunteer writes:Kola is not even one year old. Beautiful is an understatement for this very shy semi long hair young kitty with golden eyes who often wraps his body in his "boa"(bushy tail) like to protect himself. Kola lived with kids and three short hair cats. He was surrendered to the shelter as his long hair was thought to be the cause of one of the children's asthma. Kola's former owners liked how he was calm, affectionate and playful...At the care center, Kola has been very reserved but time and frequent visits from staff and volunteers are helping him overcome his fears. He blinks with soft words and after some hesitation, accepts caresses on his head, leans into pets, very lightly purrs and relaxes his body. Kola, once adopted , will likely need some time to acclimate to his new family and surroundings and a calm, experienced household without young children is what Kola needs right now. Let's not let Kola linger in a cage. A volunteer writes:Kitty was recently voted the sweetest cat in the shelter...He is one gorgeous mini lion with the most impressive cheeks he loves to be scratched and caressed, leaning into pets and purring softly(see his video). He is a bit shy and wary(of noises and sudden moves) as you can imagine, his past life was not spent in a cage but in a home he shared with 3 other cats, likely intact males and females like him. Kitty got into a squabble(involving his owner) with his housemates and as a result was brought to the care center. He was not a happy camper but time and care by staff and volunteers are bringing peace to Kitty's heart. He is a pleasure to spend time with, admiring his beauty and enjoying the positive changes he underwent. Kitty would do best with an experienced owner or family, a quiet adult only and pet free home. He deserves a, a new page in his life chance as we saw that even in a cage but in savvy hands, Kitty earned the title of "Sweetest Cat in the Shelter"!What my friends at ACC say about me:Kitty has done really well since his last assessment and is sweet and affectionate, and came down off the den for more attention. He enjoyed all petting. He then came forward and came out of the kennel and allowed himself to be picked up and held and was put back in the kennel. He gave a little grumble, but was otherwise fairly relaxed.Kitty interacts with the observer, solicits/appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in intercat aggression and the importance of either careful introductions or being a single cat.It could be with you!
