Story
Gronkle is a big boy who enjoys playing with feather wands, strings, and other toys. He will settle in for some gentle pets and lap time as well. He likes to roughhouse and can be dominant when playing with other cats. He likely would do fine with non-aggressive dogs with proper introduction. Gronkle has tested positive for FIV.FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is a widely misunderstood condition. Many people think that it's easily spread, makes cats very sick, and that they have a lower life expectancy, so they are not often adopted. This is far from the truth!Should you adopt an FIV cat? Story
Cleo is a playful girl who is very shy in new situations. She does not mind being held some and enjoys pets, especially under the chin - but she may give gentle love bites as you pet her. She really does enjoy to play, and that is how you will likely be able to bond with her and get her to come out of her shell. She also enjoys treats. Cleo needs a patient and loving adopted willing to work with her to let her shine.

Story
Almond Joy is a low-maintenance kitty who enjoys pets and can be held but does not need attention all the time. She will rub up against you when she wants affection. She did not react to other cats but did growl when near dogs, so might be best in an all-cat home, as a solo kitty or with slow introduction to friendly dogs.

Story
Mounds is a big boy! He is still getting used to people. He may shy away a bit when first approached, but if you are slow and gentle with him, he loves pets - especially chin scratches! He also will let you rub his belly. If startled or with quick movements he may react with a hiss or swat at you. He is still getting adjusted to being picked up, but as long as you are petting him he will tolerate that for a bit. Mounds does not react toward other animals. With time he will likely enjoy quality lap time or sitting beside you on a couch.Mounds has tested for positive for FIV.FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is a widely misunderstood condition. If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Enjoys snuggling and birdwatching!Do you have a heart for special needs kitties? I’m Marin (also known as “baby” since I was the smallest of my siblings) and was born around 3/22/2022.  I have a heart murmur and have had a couple of allergy flare up.  We don’t know exactly what causes my allergies however when I have a flair up I’ve taken Prednisolone has resolved it when needed. My heart murmur just gets monitored so nothing is needed at this time for it.  I’m so excited that I no longer have to eat a prescription diet which I was trying to see if my allergies were food related.  If you met me you would not know I have periodic allergies or a heart murmur.  I’m a sweet boy who enjoys a good snuggle and bird watching from the window!  My best friend and brother is Nox. If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. But don't let that deter you from adopting him, as he is currently receiving medication and going to a pet allergy specialist to get tested. With the hope of ending his allergy issues, Nox is a sweet kitty who deserves a loving home. He enjoys bird watching and belly rubs, and his allergy is not food-related, so he can enjoy treats like any other cat. Story
StellaI was a 2-month-old stray kitten when I first came to the HSHC. I am now 6-years-old and have lived with two different owners. I want you to know that I LOVE adults & teens. I used to sleep with my owners! I am a friendly, outgoing girl, but I liked being home alone, with no commotion to disturb my naps. When little kids arrived, they made a lot of noise and disrupted the routine. I prefer a calm, predictable environment. When the interviewer lady came to my little room, I quickly went to her for some attention. I love being petted, scratched, and stroked! I am an affectionate girl as long as little children are not around. Although I have had litter box avoidance incidents, I never had problems with the litterbox in my foster home. I readily used various litter types at various height levels. If you give me a small space of my own, with everything I need in one place, I will feel much better about moving in with you. Let me settle in for a few weeks before giving me free rein of the house. I have enjoyed the company of a dog, but I have never lived with other cats (until arriving back at the shelter). Because I have been at the HSHC three times, you must meet with me more than once to ensure it is a match made in heaven. I am eager for a fresh start, so hurry up! 1-29-24

Story
PrancerThe interviewer lady (IL) remembers seeing me when I was just a 10-week-old kitten surrendered to HSHC because my owner had too many animals. I was adopted in December of 2022 but was returned on February 18, 2024. Here is my side of the story. I am 1.5-years-old now. At some point, my family adopted two new kittens, bringing the total number of cats in the house to five. We had only three litterboxes for all five of us, in a 1600 square foot home. I couldn't handle the stress! Stress is a major contributing factor to developing UTIs and painful crystals. I am now on a diet designed to prevent crystals from forming, and I feel so much better. Today, when the IL opened my door, I happily approached her for pets and scratches. I am an affectionate girl who prefers to eat when I have a loved one nearby. Here, they call that affection eating. I need a new home to provide me with everything I need to feel confident, calm, and comfortable. Maybe you'd like to do so. 3-18-24
